[Elecraft] Thanks to all for many great suggestions about a PTT Switch

2018-01-07 Thread Dauer, Edward
Following Kevin Stover’s and Don Wilhelm’s advice – a normally open push button
mounted in a film can or in a Sharpie cap respectively -- I have settled on
fitting a button switch into a tennis ball . . . .

If I drop it, it might come right back
With their usual vile green color it’ll be hard to lose track
of on the operating desk
Squeezing the ball in between button presses would be good hand
exercise
With a little dexterity and the right placement of the right
size button it could be used as either a hand switch or a foot switch
It would give the operator and the dog something to do when the band
goes dead

And, the housing of the switch would be free --

I live about three blocks from a municipal tennis court. Suitable candidates
for a PTT switch body abound on the surrounding sidewalks. I guess the players
around here really aren’t very good.

Cheers,

Ted, KN1CBR

Re: [Elecraft] Thanks for all the portable operation photos so far

2017-09-01 Thread Jim Stahl via Elecraft

For a couple of photos of the joys of playing with Elecraft radios, check out
my operation in the 2017 ARRL DX CW contest. The photos don't include my K3,
and would not likely be considered suitable for publication, but anyway:

http://floridacontestgroup.org/contest-gazette/

And check out page 10 of the March 2017 issue.

Contesting is good when you head to the salt water!

BTW, I have since discovered that the Prius, when parked with the car "ON",
will keep the 12 volt battery pretty well charged from the hybrid battery, with
little or no RFI.

Yes, just like any other application using RS232/USB to communicate with
the rig.

The manual stated that it should connect to the utility regardless if it is
powered up or off. Any advise on this would be appreciated.

If that is in the manual...the manual needs fixing.

What baud rate is K3 set to? Should be USB if using the USB to USB cable.

I don't think the computer will connect to the radio if radio is not ON.

You do not use a KUSB with the KIO3B upgrade.

You should also get the new P3 "Y" cable to connect the P3 to the K3.

2016-09-10 Thread Don Wilhelm

Louis,

Do you have the menu RS-232 set to USB? It should be to use the USB
connection - see page 63 of the K3S manual.

HF-TRN and TRN refer only to the band encoding - see page 21 of the K3S
manual.

The computer may recognize the K3 USB to serial converter with power off
the K3, but there is not much that can be done unless the K3S is powered.

2015-11-20 Thread Jerry
Just a note to thank everyone not only for their responses to my pathetic plea
:) but also for all the information I have picked up just reading these
threads. Fyi I did fire it up today & it only took me 15 minutes to realize the
paddle plug does not go in the key socket :(

I did some 'off the air, in test mode' transmitting & setting up my cw mode -
boy am I have to shake the rust off after ~20 years of not using a paddle. Then
I started listening on 20 ssb with my new 80/75/40 fan dipole. There was S79C
working 5 up on 14.260 & abt a S5 on the meter. Unfortunately I haven't gotten
to getting the Heil headset to work on the mic side, that's for tomorrow.

Bottom line - after the initial intimidation I'm really motivated to get going
on the air, tho I have worked S79 in the past :)

Thanks again & 73

[Elecraft] Thanks to all on the List

2007-05-10 Thread Gary McKelvie

Hi to the List,

I must say a big thank you to the you all for the advice particularly
over the last week.
I have now sorted the problem of R116 by using a 5.6 M Ohm resister.
I have also now completed the Stage 2 Alignment.

It's very nice to hear signals of all sorts on 40m.
Now onto the PA stage and the KSB2 module. Hopefully up and running
on digital within the next couple of weeks :)
Once that's done i have the Noise Blanker, Audio Filter RS232 port
and The 100w PA to do. The 100w PA will be the last section.

I'll run the K2 QRP for most of the time even with the 100w PA in situ.
I certainly will have a fair bit to talk about at my local radio club
once the K2 is complete.
Hopefully I will win the Clubs construction contest this year but it
will also be the first year I've entered as previously I've not had
something worth entering :)

2006-11-24 Thread Larry

K1-4, KAT1 serial 2269 is now complete and calibrated.

This would have been a lot more difficult without the great people on
this forum and great support from Gary at Elecraft.

I hooked up a 100' wire stretched across a couple of low trees to see
how the KAT1 tunes up.

3.6 to 1 on 40m
2.6 to 1 on 30m
1.8 to 1 on 20m
1.5 to 1 on 15m
I don't know if I should expect better SWR on 40m and 30m but I'm not
too worried about it right now.

I will be moving into my new house in a month and will be putting up a
better (stealth unfortunately) antenna. Also I am still working on my
code and haven't had my first HF QSO yet. So, great things to come.

Thanks again,

I then look forward to building a suitable antenna to take to Texas at

You just had time away from the lab in San Diego. Back to work! We need more
kits to build. ;-)

Just kidding. We all appreciate the huge amount of hours you and Eric put in.
Thanks very much for all the hard work and wonderful products.

2005-04-14 Thread Roland Elvie Whitsitt
Just wanted to send a note of thanks to the many responses for help to me. I
will try some more of these new suggestions and also have a couple of offers
for personal assistance. I think I'm on the right path now no matter what.
I'm slow because of my work schedule and off times I watch our baby and he is
Mr. Hands on in the ham shack! So it may take a bit of time for me to try
everything. (Even now he is crying for attention. hi hi )
