Re: [Elecraft] P3 problem

2019-09-08 Thread Don Wilhelm

Dave,

What are you using to power the P3? Try a good stiff power source - not
a wall-wart.

If the power source cannot provide the current required at the voltage
required, then you will still hear a relay click as the P3 tries to
power up, but the current or voltage from the power source drops
significantly.

If you are powering the P3 from the AUX DC jack on the K3, and you have
an early K3, the current is limited to 0.5 amps before the resettable
fuse opens and is barely enough for the P3, especially if it has the
SVGA option.

I am sure that it has 12+ volts and that it is jumpered correctly.

I can hear the relay click when I press the power button.

Anything I may be overlooking? I have actually read and reread the manual.

Re: [Elecraft] P3 problem

Hey Dave,
Is the P3's 12v supplied from the 12v aux port (rca Jack)?
If your K3 is a few years old, you might need the K312mdkt.
This boosts current output from .5 to 1.0 amps.

So on page 38 in the manual, how are the jumpers configured? Mine is set up
with Jumper across 2 and 3. When power is applied, the P3 turns on, but the
power switch can still turn it off or on as long as power is present.

Re: [Elecraft] P3 problem

2018-05-26 Thread Keith Onishi
Congratulations to have found the cause.
If signal level on P3 screen becomes unstable while the BNC cable is completely
plugged in at both sides, check the cable itself.
My case was that the signal level was unstable and sometimes went very low. I
had thought that K3 or P3 circuit was in trouble but found that connection
inside one end of BNC cable connector was unstable. Replacing the cable
completely fix the problem.

Hello Doug,

My guess would be that the cable that should connect the P3 "RF IN" BNC to
the K3 "IF OUT" BNC is either not fully-engaged on both ends, or is
defective.

Thank you for the suggestion, but respectfully, I am not sure I want to
take such a brut force fix for this, as I have many prams set, that are

I want to understand what is happening before I make changes...

Re: [Elecraft] P3 Problem

2013-12-04 Thread Paul Saffren N6HZ
Hi Larry,

It sounds like the SVGA is not seeing that the K3 has stopped transmitting
and has gone into receive. Here are some suggestions:

1) Make sure both the SVGA and P3 are running latest firmware. P3 1.26
SVGA 1.16
2) Ensure that the serial cable going between the K3 and P3 is good and
screwed in tight.
3) If you are using a 3rd party logging program that is connected to the K3,
try closing it down to see if there is an interaction that may be causing
the problem.
4) If after all the above doesn't solve it, email me directly Larry. My
email is pauls at elecraft

Re: [Elecraft] P3 Problem

2013-12-04 Thread Stephen Prior
I get that too, but usually just for 2 or 3 seconds and sometimes not at
all. I have never got my head around it, but I think it got worse after
fitting the SVGA board. That leads me to another 'feature', in that the
SVGA screen will occasionally do a complete refresh of the waterfall,
without me touching anything else such as the VFO. It's as if a buffer
which is much bigger than the screen data is being flushed, leaving no
history in the waterfall at all.

I can't imagine myself being without the P3 now, however!

I am having a problem with the P3. occasionally after a transmission and the
PTT or VOX is released, The P3 screen will remain frozen and look just as
it does during a transmission. This is not the problem related to the
firmware that was fixed in version .30.

===original message above==
Sound like my problem exactly.
I have an email conversation going on with Gary from support.
So Elecraft is aware of my problem and now yours.
I suspect as more P3 get out in the field there might be more.

Gary - running the separate ground did not give me any results,
Still freezing.
It doesn't appear to happen when using the internal because the timing seems
different.
Is the internal keyer always in QSK. Sounds like it is.
