of course, chris, as copyright holder for his code could make
an exception for the xfig use, if he were so inclined. i don't
think he needs to, or should, but he could. (and he could give
that version a license just as "restrictive" as xfig's license.)

Several other people have contributed code to truetype-tracer over the
couple of years it's been around. Even if I wanted to do this, I
don't think I could.

[Emc-users] UBUNTU+EMC2realtime intall Problem

2007-06-26 Thread Kasparov, Aram
Hello.

During CNC workshop (Galesburg) I found that my computer Compaq AMD64 behaves
differently than any other computers. EMC2 real time test doesn't work on my
computer and at the same time it still ran my driver/machine properly. Nobody
can find the problem.

Yesterday I tried load UBUNTU+EMC2 disc that I got from CNC workshop, on my
other computer and it doesn't work right.

This computer I build less than a one year ago from absolutely new parts.

Motherboard ASRock 775i65G.

Chip/Processor Intel-865G.

Problem is in, that loading continue for 2 hours and still can't be finished.

I think that it is some kind maintenance operator on my Intel chip that creates
a problem.

Windows Microsoft XP and UBUNTU 5.1 can be loaded with no problem; only
UBUNTU+EMC2 with real time magma has a problem with loading.

If I am right than can someone give my details direction on how to turn off
maintenance switch off my Intel chip.

Thank you,

Aram K.

How much main memory is in the computer? You need at least 256mb and some
people have needed more - like 512mb during the installation.

I had the same problem. My computer runs Ubuntu okay with 128mB but
would not install. Of the two PC's I have installed, both needed a DVD
drive instead of a CDROM drive, and I believe one needed the install
options (F6 at the first menu) of "irqpoll noapic nolapic". (Linux
_used_ to run on just about anything, sigh)

[Emc-users] Lathe M Codes

2007-06-26 Thread Kirk Wallace
I need to have a collet open and close code (M21/M22 ?) for my Hardinge
HNC project. I noticed in the Tool Change literature, that changes where
needed in iosh and tkio.sh . I would also think that changes would be
needed in the interpreter to add M21/M22. Another issue that comes to
mind is, can I incorporate conditions to the I/O actions, such as check
the status of the main air pressure switch to ensure proper grip
strength? I did a search on the wiki, but I didn't find much on the
subject. If there are any other links I should study, please let me
know. Thanks

Re: [Emc-users] gcode output for xfig updated

2007-06-26 Thread Till Harbaum / Lists
Hi,

so we can just close the case and forget about a public version of this. I
could remove the text support from xfig, but i just don't think i want to as
the current version works fine for me which imho is within the GPL.

Perhaps someone will do a similar thing for inkscape or so. Whoever wants to
do this might contact me as the entire setup has/will still been extended.
And it can e.g. now be combined with the eagle pcb layout program, meaning
that you can re-import gcode converted pcbs into xfig and e.g. optimize
single traces etc or add Text or modify the engraving depth for certain
traces etc ...

I'll at least put the updated versions of ngc2fig online and provide some
screenshots to perhaps trigger someone else to redo this with a different
sketch tool.

[Emc-users] Lathe ? Using Tool Offsets

2007-06-26 Thread RogerN
Currently I set tool 1 the proper distance from the chuck, touch off,
and enter 0. Next I jog a skim cut, calculate radius, touch off, and
enter my calculated radius. How do you set the offsets for another
tool? Or maybe my question should be how do you set up the TLO table
for lathes?

Sorry for such a basic question but I'm new to EMC2 and lathes and
haven't been able to find a procedure for this in the documentation or
through google.

You could wire an air pressure switch that opens on low pressure
in series with the E-stop buttons.

First make sure you have a lathe format tool table. There are some
examples in CVS - here's one:

You'll want to set diameter (which is the diameter of the radiused
tool tip), orientation, and the two offsets for each tool. The angles
are nice for seeing the tool shape in AXIS but are otherwise unused so
far. The diameter and orientations are required for G41/G42 and of
course the offsets are required for G43.

Orientations:

How you set your offsets is a personal preference thing - I'm sure
people do it differently. I like to set them relative to a reference
tool, which in my case is orientation 2 (left cutting turning tool).
I use that because I can both turn and face with it to do my touch
offs without worrying about G43. You could also measure in both
directions from your tool holder etc (like measuring down from the
spindle on a mill).

Whether you get the measurements by turning material and measuring its
diameter or by measuring the tools in their holders or whatever is up
to you - you just need to somehow determine the offsets. This
sometimes takes some creativity. To get a threading tool's offset
exactly right, you'll probably have to cut a thread and measure it
with thread wires. John K and I entertained (ha) a large group of
folks at cnc workshop trying to do this.

If you load that tool table I linked above and change tools in AXIS
you'll get a good feeling of the meaning of the angles and
orientations.

Good luck - this is intricate setup but it's rewarding to be able
to change tools and not worry about it once it's done.

Our group (details at http://www.linuxcnc.org) develops a free software
machine tool control program. One of our best developers extended xfig
to convert electronic drawings to the type of data used as input to
computer controlled machine tools. We try to be diligent about licensing
issues, and the question of GPL compatibility was raised while
considering whether to redistribute his useful work.
