It is probably exactly the same control, all the tags in the cabinet say
Heidenhain.

I'm doing a retrofit of a 2001 chevalier with a heidenhain control that
looks very similar to the anilam control. It has a all in one servo unit.
That is dead. From a power strike.. You can get boards from Germany for
them. I'm using chinese servos and drives and a vfd for the spindle. But
I'm just learning so don't copy me lol.

But the machines are fine. Mine has a spindle chiller and all the bells
and whistles.

There was a posting here a few years ago of a retrofit of two CNC milling
machines with Anilam controls.
It was done on 3300 and 1100 versions.
Scott did a very thorough documentation of it.

Well, we went to look at the 2001 Chevalier. While the machine looks nice, it
appears to be brain dead. The Anilam 6400M control shows no signs of life. We
were told it died after a storm. Unfortunately the servo drives appear to be
tightly integrated with the control probably making it a poor retrofit
candidate.

Anyone familiar with the last generation of Anilam controls or do a retrofit of
one?

Being so close and if it works (bring a big compressor to try it). I'd get it.
It has linear way vs box and 6K rpm CAT40 spindle.

The machine was used primarily for mold making back in the day, so
I'm pretty sure it has full 3 axis.

The main decision maker is having cold feet, now and thinks it would

Haas have lightweight linear roller guideways which causes short
working life.  I was astonished to see the same size guideways on a 10
Hp Haas milling machine we got at work as I have on my pick and place
machine which has no
cutting forces at all!  People who use them do love their controls,
however.

I may still have one #35 taper tool holder. May be NMTB style. I used to have

such as 4C, you'll pay a premium for tooling and variety will be poor. If you
need larger than #30, go with #40. If you just can't pass up a machine with a
#35 taper, do some checking to see if there's a way to modify it to #40.

Of course with a CNC lathe or machining center you can make any #35 tooling you
need. Can even do it on the mill by mounting cutters to the table to use the
mill as a vertical lathe. There's a video on Youtube of someone doing that to
make 3/4" straight shank TTS toolholders.

Being so close and if it works (bring a big compressor to try it). I'd get it.
It has linear way vs box and 6K rpm CAT40 spindle.

2019-11-06 Thread David Berndt

Retrofit and keep all the fanuc hardware/motors?

Production shop or hobby?

What's your tolerance for a working machine vs a project?

Three Phase available?

I think the hardware looks snazzy, I'd dubious about it actually being
bt35, guessing more like a 40 taper. For myself I'd strip the
control/drives/motor and repower it with single phase capable more modern
servos systems, but that's a very home-garage specific view of it.

That is a big machine and will cost a fortune in time to convert it over. If
you have done one before, fine.

The main issue is, it is open. I have an open mill and it plays havoc with my
health. I have now narrowed down my cough to when I'm running my mill with
flood coolant. The 3 times the price is probably good if it works well and you
can find a service technician. The retrofit means you can repair it in the

Hi Stuart,

The Matsuura MC-1000V5  Spindle Speed: 3,600 RPM Geared Head. Surprised
me as well.

Spindle Taper: BT45

They are beasts. I have a slightly smaller 710V that I use for just
about anything.

Wish it was closer but there are several smaller ones within an hours
drive from me for cheap.

Re: [Emc-users] Machine For Conversion?

2019-11-06 Thread Stuart Stevenson
The Matsuura will cut anything. Probably not more than 2000 rpm.
The Supermax should be an ok machine.
The Haas will be fine for most things.
If the box ways on the Matsuura look good then you can't beat it at that
price.
I don't know if the Supermax is box ways or linear guides. If it is box
ways and they look good then it will be fine.
The Haas will be linear guides. Pretty easily replaced and not too
expensive unless the prices have gone up lately.
My preference would be the Matsuura as it will be a very solid machine. It
is a 50 taper machine and you can push it as hard as you want.
The 35 taper will limit the size of tooling you can use. But, that might
be just fine for the work you expect to do.
The Haas is a 40 taper. And will cut like a light duty 40 taper. It will
make a lot of parts for you.
Just my two cents.

2019-11-06 Thread Todd Zuercher
The seller who is the original owner says that the machine is tight and was in
good operating condition when it was pulled from service 10 years ago.

The machine was used primarily for mold making back in the day, so I'm pretty
sure it has full 3 axis.

The main decision maker is having cold feet, now and thinks it would be a
better plan to buy something 4x as expensive and 20years newer, that would have
a serviceable control as is. (and he may be right.) But I was kind of looking
forward to the challenge.

Now He thinks this might be a better deal for us.

I really don't know much about metal working machines, all of my experience is

When we got our matsuura (bt35) we where told that too - that tooling would
be expensive and hard to find. After keeping an eye on ebay we have all
the tooling we would ever need. (and it was pretty inexpensive)

I think it would depend on the condition of the ways. It is nice that it

Make sure that it has one motor per axis, and isn't one of those that
