Sounds good. ;-)

There's no really big differences in writing unless you're talking
about slangs. I found slangs from different Spanish-speaking countries
a little bit confusing. But standard written Spanish can be considered
as being the same everywhere in the world.

If you want to have a peek at the minor differences, visit this link:

http://spanish.about.com/cs/historyofspanish/f/varieties.htm

There are 2 small paragraphs on grammar and vocabulary towards the end
which explain it in a nutshell and which would summarize countless
discussions! ;-)

There are so many differences between south american spanish and spain
one.

Im from Spain and I have some south american friends, and there was so
much phrases that spanish people noticed strange and fun :)

for example:
south american - spain - english
dame teniendo - toma - take
vos - tu - you
compu - ordenador - computer
chico - peque?o - small
ingresa - introduce - input
clima - tiempo - weather
regresar - volver - back
presione - pulse - press
celular - movil - cellullar or mobile phone :)
auto - coche - car

note: the south american words can be from different countries
(argentina, mexico, ecuador..)

In spain we can understand all these words, spanish have too much
synonymous, but they are not common.

Spanish have so much more words and grammatic issues than english, so i
think that differences are bigger than american - uk english.

I can help with spanish traslation.
I saw an file called es_AR.po from Matias, but I saw only a few spanish
strings. Perhaps its incomplete?

If someone can tell me what I must do, I can traslate it :)

(B
(Byes. it's incomplete :) also it will keep being incomplete as long as e17 is
(Bdeveloped. we add strings to the code all the time (new modules, new menus,
(Bfeatures etc.) and it will become out of data every week - as will all the

Re: [E-devel] Initial e17 spanish support

2005-04-19 Thread jacinto calvo sintes
Hy, I did a general Spanish translation for e16 named es.po and still working
on, i think that for just 'menus' or 'options' from a desktop environment
don't hav such as many different words in each spanish derivation to make more
than one translated file. anyway, if that's very important for some spanish
user (not for me) we could discuss all spanish e-users for all this words that
anyone thought as funny translation. (we could do a quite good translation for
all kinds ;) )

I hope also to finish translating soon MAIN file from EDOX; if anyone wants to
take a look at it just mail me ;)

thanks

Re: [E-devel] Initial e17 spanish support

2005-04-21 Thread Carlos Daniel Ruvalcaba Valenzuela
Well, it should default to es if there isn't an specific traduction,
if LANG is es_MX but there isn't any es_MX then default to just es.

I would be nice to have es_* for some specific countries like Spain,
Argentina and Mexico, those are more likely be a tad different.

Cheers
