[eug-lug]Mouse scroll wheel stoped working after 2.6 kernel upgrade
Stats: - Fresh Slackware 9.1 install (w/ patches) - Kernel 2.6.4 with usb mouse support - ASUS A7V600 mobo - Dropline GNOME When I was using the 2.4.24 kernel, I added the ZAxisMapping option to my XF86Config and my usb mouse's (Microsoft optical mouse) scroll wheel worked fine in X/GNOME. I upgraded to 2.6.4 and now the scroll wheel doesn't work, although my mouse does. Googled, tried killing gpm, still a no go. Any ideas on what avenues to explore next? Are there any hidden scrollwheel options in the kernel config I'm missing? /jgw ___ EuG-LUG mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mailman.efn.org/cgi-bin/listinfo/eug-lug

If they want to get anyone of quality, it might be better in the future to include things such as: - Company name - Salary (usually designated as "negotiable", but still) - How many servers at org - How many workstations at org - How many users at org Roughly stating "sysadmin job available! send your resume!" isn't going to attract high quality people. There are a number of exploits that allow you to execute arbitrary commands using cmd.exe. Roughly, from your log entry, they're trying to run cmd.exe with the /c switch, which means run cmd.exe and execute the command(s) contained in the string following the /c switch. In this case, your Apache logs either truncated the rest, or they were just seeing if they got something or a 403 (which would likely indicate a patched machine). /jgw ___ EuG-LUG mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mailman.efn.org/cgi-bin/listinfo/eug-lug

Re: [eug-lug]Re: WiFi Mapping Project
By datapoints, you mean...? I have a bunch of databases from the various stumblers I use (Kismac, Netstumbler, and Netchaser), most contain the GPS coordinates, as well. The hugest numbers of AP's I've found so far, is up and down 13th street, as well as Centennial (I refuse to call it Martin Luther King Blvd). You can also intercept traffic coming off of the Coburg Hills, and maybe about 40% of that is not WEP encrypted. So, if any techs from Sacred Heart or Peacehealth are around, they might want to fix that. I usually use my car, with an external Lucent antenna on the roof, and either my tibook or my pc laptop. Sometimes I stumble using my Palm Tungsten C (with 802.1bb built-in) and NetChaser, a little-known stumbler for the TC. At some point, I'd like to start notifying the many agencies and companies that have their APs (relatively) unsecured. Although it IS nice being able to quickly check my PDA for email almost anywhere downtown. /jgw PS: Kind of late in the season now, but I have a public hotspot (a Linksys WRV54g) set up near the grassy beach area across the river from VRC. No WEP, no access controls, so come next summer, hang out in the sun and get some work done wirelessly. > Do you have many datapoints for each node, or just a single location for > each AP? > > interested, > >Ben > > > On Tue, 18 Nov 2003 21:45:16 -0800 (PST) > "jgw" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > | Marc, > | > | I'd be willing to donate some wardriving logs to your online > | databasing cause. I think they > knew > about the issue 2 years ago! This is a common piece of FUD spread by the anti-Microsoft crowd. The patch for that vulnerability was issued nearly a month before Blaster. I believe Blaster first showed up around August 11th. The patch in question, MS03-026, came out in mid-July... the 16th? The worm was relatively successful not because Microsoft hadn't yet issued a patch, it was successful due to lazy sysadmins not patching their systems in a timely manner. Certainly, not a Windows 2000-specific issue. This same bit of FUD was spread about the Slammer worm and it's associated vulnerability. The patch for that vulnerability was patched some 5 months before the Slammer worm appeared. That patch was quite difficult to install, however. Microsoft kind of rushed that one out. Regardless, the patch was included in the next service pack, which I believe, was a month or so before the Slammer worm came out. Thus, users had two chances to patch their systems for that one. /jgw ___ EuG-LUG mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mailman.efn.org/cgi-bin/listinfo/eug-lug

Just to clarify, the GNU Darwin project has nothing to do with the Darwin/OpenDarwin project. Re: [eug-lug]linux business propaganda needed
I'd toss Windows 2003 Server (probably Web Edition) and ASP.NET (using either VB.NET or preferably, C#) into the equation, too. While its Windows, it's pretty different in terms of TCO, security, and support than Windows 2000. Depending on the amount of code running on the server, number of staff, staff skills, I wouldn't necessarily be too hot on moving every aspect of the project to a different platform. At least with 2003, they could run their existing ASP applications, and port them to a more managable ASP.NET codebase as timeframes permit. For those not in the know, ASP and ASP.NET are about as related as PHP and ASP. Entirely new platform, language, framework, yadda yadda. /jgw ___ EuG-LUG mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mailman.efn.org/cgi-bin/listinfo/eug-lug

Yeah, I'm still pretty burned over my tibook's airport card flaw, which means that I get no connectivity unless I am literally a few feet from the AP. Whoever at Apple made that snafu probably shouldn't work there anymore. Apple denying for months that there wasn't any problem further added fuel to the fire.
