Re: [EVDL] EV-Spotting in London
Only 47% of UK adults believe that individual efforts to limit their own impact on climate change are worthwhile, although this rises to 70% of readers and users of the Guardian and Observer, who tend to be more eco-conscious. The research further shows that 40% of UK adults think that pollution from other countries makes our efforts irrelevant, falling to 17% among the GNM audience. The study mirrors other recent research that shows that consumers are not prepared to pay a premium for more ethical goods and services. More than that, more complex or expensive purchases such as solar panels, electric vehicles, travelling by train abroad and ethical loans remain beyond the means or desires of the majority. http://www.theguardian.com/sustainable-business/motivates-consumers-environmental-ethical-decisions Sent from my iPad > On May 17, 2016, at 12:22 PM, Bruce Lawton via EV <ev@lists.evdl.org> wrote: > > I'm in London this week and surprised at the lack of EVs. [EVDL] Looking for ~320V pack (used?) also EV truck for sale
Hi gang, I was given an S10 EV (US Electricar) with bad pack. I am trying to resuscitate it to see how much of the capacity is still present (as the 100Ah AGM pack was never used after installation!) but sitting for over 10 years with no charging in the last few years has taken its toll and it is not looking good. I can get the pack to ~350V on about 1/3 Amp trickle charge (the onboard charger is not working as it should) but the voltage collapses with the slightest load: just moving under its own power is possible, but only a crawl before the pack tanks to 250V So, it is likely that I am looking for a pack, either a single string of around 100Ah lead again or do the right thing and go for Lithium. Anybody knowing or having a (used) pack for sale? Another alternative may be totaled/parting out Leaf. I still have 43 cells CALB 180Ah (blue cells) so adding more LiFePO4 cells and installing them in this truck is an option. Since 2 EV trucks is too much, I will be selling one of my trucks, either this 1994 S10 or the 1989 Ford Ranger with a 120V system. The S10 still needs to be added to the EV Album, the Ranger can be found at http://evalbum.com/4259 Cor van de Water Chief Scientist Proxim Wireless office +1 408 383 7626Skype: cor_van_de_water XoIP +31 87 784 1130private: cvandewater.info http://www.proxim.com This email message (including any attachments) contains confidential and proprietary information of Proxim Wireless Corporation. Re: [EVDL] EV charging is trivial on the large scale too
For it all to be charged by solar, perhaps. But I think the problem he identified is the large number of people who, by virtue of the fact that they *don't* have the ability to have any kind of plug-in opportunity, whether renewable or not, cannot yet be part of the market for plug-ins. Not a trivial problem, but being addressed bit by bit. - Mark Sent from AltaMail From: Robert Bruninga via EV <ev@lists.evdl.org> To: Electric Vehicle Discussion List <ev@lists.evdl.org> Subject: [EVDL] EV charging is trivial on the large scale too Date: 5/17/16, 9:33 AM > > > If we are talking about the entire population of ICE becoming EVs > then this is a significant problem for which very little thought > has been expended in the solving. [EVDL] EVLN: LG, Gov.ir to develop EV & EVSE for Khodro's Iranian market
http://english.chosun.com/site/data/html_dir/2016/05/13/2016051301451.html LG to Develop Electric Car for Iran May 13, 2016 LG Group plans to work on an electric car specifically for the Iranian market. LG and the Iranian government recently signed a preliminary agreement for the development, LG Corp. said. The agreement only lays out the issues in broad strokes and is to be followed a proper contract later. According to the deal, LG will develop 20 EVs for Iran's No. 1 automaker Khodro by 2018 and set up charging stations in Tehran. LG Electronics, LG Chem and LG Innotek will develop key parts, including engines and batteries. LG CNS will handle the construction of charging stations. Khodro will manufacture the vehicles. An LG Corp. staffer said, "We stayed in Iran despite international sanctions, which appears to have helped us win the trust that led to the agreement." Nissan LEAF…Drifting? So we figured it was time to take a step back, and watch something to take the edge off…like Autocar attempting to drift a Nissan LEAF. Why not? Says Autocar of the experiment: “The Nissan Leaf is not rear-wheel drive. It does not have a massively powerful turbocharged engine. It does not have a hydraulic handbrake and nor is it inclined to smoke up its tyres at every available opportunity. It is, in fact, Nissan’s family-friendly, front-wheel drive, flagship electric car. As far as you could get from being a natural drift machine. So what the heck is it doing lining up alongside British Drift Championship competitors? Well, with a little help in the rear tyre department, we’ll try to answer the question: will it drift?” Enjoy! Or don’t. There is more serious EV business coming up shortly we imagine. More air, more fuel, more ‘bang’, more speed. Now however, that’s not the only way. The evolution of electric vehicles have spawned blisteringly quick electric road cars like the Tesla Model S, as well as super-quick go karts like this sleek shifter kart, Rattlesnake Electric Sport’s RS8 eKart [ http://rattlesnakeelectricsports.com/index.html ]. Though the company can trace its roots back only five years, already they’ve had incredible success in go kart racing, and team principal Richard Hilleman admits they’re technically the world’s winningest electric vehicle racing team. Thinking of picking one up for yourself? Check out what Autoblog’s [ http://www.autoblog.com/2016/04/28/rattlesnake-electric-sport-karts-translogic-199/ ] Jonathon Buckley has to report about the speedy EV go karts. “This thing is a weapon,” remarks Buckley, as he blasted the eKart around Sonoma, California’s Simraceway. At its core is an electric motor (nicked from a Zero Motorcycle) [ http://www.boldride.com/ride/2016/zero-fxs ] which supplies 55 horsepower and 65 lb.-ft. of torque to the rear wheels. That may not seem like a lot, but according to Hilleman, it’s enough to rocket the go kart to 60 mph in just four seconds and up to a top speed of 110 mph. Yikes. The eKart is powered by a lithium-ion battery cell, which allots a 40 mile driving range and full charging in about one to two hours. Although fast, they aren’t what you’d call cheap. All-in you can expect to pay around $20,000 for the full eKart kit and caboodle, which is claimed to cover three years of worry-free racing. Hilleman says in five years of running the company, they’ve never destroyed a motor. Of course, the EV go kart isn’t for everyone, but it is now at least an option… and a darn quick one at that. [EVDL] EVLN: GM Bolt EV Production Listed As Starting October 2016
http://insideevs.com/chevrolet-bolt-enter-production-october-2016/ Chevrolet Bolt Start Of Production Set For October 2016? [20160513] Eric Loveday [image] Chevrolet Bolt Pre-Production Version Rolling Off Assembly Line Back In April 2016 It’s a classic case of now you see it…now you don’t. Fortunately, Hybrid Cars was able to capture the now you see it part, which suggests that the Chevrolet Bolt electric car could enter production starting in October 2016. As Hybrid Cars points out, General Motors’ 2017 Fleet Guide initially listed Start Of Regular Production (SORP) for the Bolt at Orion assembly as October of this year (see image below) – exactly where it was expected. [image] Bolt Start Of Production Listed For October 2016 An updated 2017 Fleet Guide was released a day later with the SORP Oct 2016 line completely removed from the Bolt’s status. A quick look at other industry resources simply list a “Q4 2016” start date. This October start of production date reveal would seem to (once again) underline the validity of the original leaked disclosure from multiple suppliers over a year ago (February 2015) that confirmed the Bolt EV would indeed enter production (well before GM announced it), would be built in Orion, Michigan (well before GM announced it), would have an Opel sister car (also well before GM confirmed), would be built starting in October, and that suppliers were told to expect a volume of 25,000-30,000 units. It would seem the only piece of original leaked info yet to be verified is the 25-30k production run…but with so much else proven accurate at this point, it is hard to imagine it is not. Hybrid Cars reached out to Fred Ligouri of Chevrolet communications for response on the matter. Here’s what he stated: “We’re excited to bring the Bolt EV, the world’s first affordable, long-range electric vehicle, to market. Our plan remains to begin production in the fourth quarter of 2016. We look forward to providing our customers the highest quality and best-in-segment performing electric vehicle.” Q4 could mean as early as October, but Chevrolet was not willing to confirm this. When asked about the dealer ordering timeline, Ligouri responded: “We’re leveraging the strength of our dealer network and the relationships they have cultivated with their local customer base to manage the anticipated high demand for Bolt EV. “While distribution plans are not yet finalized, we want to first satisfy demand in markets where EV acceptance is strongest.” [© 2016 Inside EVs] ... http://www.hybridcars.com/gm-document-says-2017-chevy-bolt-production-starts-in-october/ GM Document Says 2017 Chevy Bolt Production Starts In October May 12, 2016 http://www.greencarreports.com/news/1103922_2017-chevy-bolt-ev-sales-could-go-as-high-as-8-says-analyst 2017 Chevy Bolt EV sales could go as high as 80,000, says analyst May 12, 2016 For EVLN EV-newswire posts use: http://evdl.org/evln/ {brucedp.150m.com} -- View this message in context: http://electric-vehicle-discussion-list.413529.n4.nabble.com/EVLN-GM-Bolt-EV-Production-Listed-As-Starting-October-2016-tp4682066.html Sent from the Electric Vehicle Discussion List mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ UNSUBSCRIBE: http://www.evdl.org/help/index.html#usub http://lists.evdl.org/listinfo.cgi/ev-evdl.org Read EVAngel's EV News at http://evdl.org/evln/ Please discuss EV drag racing at NEDRA (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NEDRA)
[EVDL] Nissan's EUR1k subsidy, Gov.de & Tesla EV buyer incentives.de
http://www.autocarpro.in/news-international/nissan-offers-german-ev-buyers-extra-euro-subsidy-19802 Nissan offers EV buyers in Germany extra 1,000 euro subsidy May 12, 2016 Following the news that the German federal government has announced 4,000 euros (Rs 3.05 lakh) in bonuses for electric vehicle customers, Nissan has raised the subsidy bar to 5,000 euros (Rs 3.82 lakh) for buyers of the Leaf and e-NV200 models. Thus prospective buyers in Germany can expect 5,000 euros in assistance when they buy a new Nissan Leaf or e-NV200, representing an extra 2,000 euros in savings when compared to a plug-in hybrid model. The Leaf delivers 250km of driving range, more than any other pure electric vehicle eligible for the scheme, and is available from 18,365 euros/Rs 14 lakh (plus battery rental). Gareth Dunsmore, director of Electric Vehicles for Nissan Europe, said: “This incentive marks out Nissan’s clear commitment to affordable, mass-market, pure electric vehicles (EVs). We hope that the additional incentives for pure EV adopters will encourage drivers to make the switch to 100 percent electric mobility from the get-go. “Our commitment doesn’t stop there – since 2010, we have helped to fund an extensive network of reliable CHAdeMo chargers. In fact, Nissan has part-funded more than 3,100 compatible charging units across Europe and more than 200 in Germany alone – available at service stations, dealerships and across city centres. We’re thrilled to see that there will be an additional 200 million (Rs 1,528 crore) in investment from the German federal government to support multi-standard infrastructure.” The 4,000 Euro bonus is co-funded, with 50% provided by the manufacturer and the German federal government matching the contribution. The news comes as Nissan has announced sales of 16,916 electric cars in Europe for 2015-16, a new annual record. The Leaf continues to lead the electric vehicle segment globally. In a statement on its website, Tesla said it was disappointed to have been excluded from the scheme, which offers a €4,000 purchase incentive for electric vehicles and €3,000 against plug-in hybrids up to a value of €60,000, with funding split equally between manufacturers and the government. International manufacturers can sign up, but the Tesla Model S and forthcoming Model X are the only fully electric vehicles which are not eligible for the government incentives. However, Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche all offer plug-in hybrids which also do not qualify. Tesla said the price limit was “arbitrary” and that it would offer its own incentives, as the Model S and Model X replace vehicles in sectors with the highest CO2 emissions. The company added that it will work with German ministries to develop a scheme which does not benefit specific manufacturers. Re: [EVDL] EVLN: Prof. Clare Grey defending her LiO2 (fluffy carbon) battery paper
I'll take your word for it that 30% is the number. But my point was that even if you figure out a way to reduce CO2 to acceptable levels, there are other pollution factors that make cutting back on the use of ICEs important. I don't disagree with your point that a 200 mile car should be sufficient for most people. Whether they will buy one or not is an open question. I own two of them, but everyone is different. - Mark Sent from AltaMail From: Larry GalesTo: Mark Abramowitz ,Electric Vehicle Discussion List CC: dovepa Subject: Re: [EVDL] EVLN: Prof. Clare Grey defending her LiO2 (fluffy carbon) battery paper Date: 5/16/16, 2:40 PM First, the CO2 produced by transportation is about 30%, not 14%, so it is a very significant factor. 2nd, a 200+ mile vehicle should be fully sufficient as your only car. For 98-99% of all your trips, the EV is more convenient, as you can wake up every morning with a fully charged car with virtually no effort. And for a 500 mile trip the difference is this: in a gas car, most people would normally make at least TWO 30 minute stops for food, or bathroom, or gas, or rest. For the 200+ mile EV, you would make THREE such stops, combining 30 minute charging (to 80% full) with food/bathroom/rest. So for 1-2% of your trips, the EV would be somewhat less convenient, but for 98-99% the EV would be more convenient. And 98-99% is better than 1-2%. For many parts of the country (and world), local levels of air pollution have tremendous impacts on human health and the environment. If you believe that we can solve the CO2 problem by eliminating coal, and you think that it can be done in a reasonable amount of time, there still remains a urgent need for zero and near-zero emitting vehicles. - Mark Sent from AltaMail From: dovepa via EV To: Peri Hartman via EV Subject: Re: [EVDL] EVLN: Prof. Clare Grey defending her LiO2 (fluffy carbon) battery paper Date: 5/13/16, 6:49 PM I don't see a need to eliminate the internal combustion engine. Most of the CO2 comes from burning coal. According to the EPA only 14% comes from transportation. All forms of transportation together road, rail, air and marine. How are you going to get rid of ICE vehicles for long range travel if you can only go 100 miles or so per charge? Even 200 miles. This has nothing to do with the vehicle you might use for everyday commuting and errands. Yes, 100 miles is almost always plenty for that. And, yes, you can rent something if you want to go long range. But we're talking about getting ICE vehicles off the road. That long range vehicle needs to go 300-400 miles on a charge to be practical. Some have to be built and there needs to be high wattage charging stations along the interstates and major highways. And, another factor, if only a small percentage are built, economy of scale won't work and they will be quite expensive.
