Clustering Exchange
Okay, we have been beating our heads around looking for a cluster option that will work for us, obviously Active/Active was shot down, because of the memory fragmentation, even though initially MS told us it could be done, for the meantime we are looking to just go Active/Passive, I was wondering though what the general consensus on going N+1 is. We are going to explore the possibility to go to this, but I wanted to get some opinions on it first. RE: Clustering Exchange
To answer your reasons not to 1. Already have hardware. Higher ups, didn't mind spending money. 2. Thinking about N plus 1 3. True 4. No reason why I would want my server to be a Domain Controller 5. No reason why I would want my server to be a Global Catalogue Server 6. Have another machine with the srs, and only need it while 2000 and 5.5 are co-existing. 7. True. The reason my company would like a cluster, to have the most available uptime as possible. So if a server does happen to go down, we wouldn't have much downtime, as if we had to fix a standalone server. -Original Message- From: Etts, Russell [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, November 22, 2002 10:44 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Clustering Exchange Oh Boy (Time to get on my soap box)... Okay, I am getting knee deep into a conversion from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000. Now we have an NT 4 Domain with two Exchange 5.5 Servers. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that this network, while screwed up, and confusing to you, probably saved time. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves time. You don't want the truth, because deep down, in places you don't talk about at parties, you want us in this office. You need us in this office. We use words like DNS, LDAP, and SCRIPTS...we use these words as the backbone to a life spent playing with computers. You use 'em as a reason to whine. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a person who surfs and emails under the blanket of the very network I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it! I'd rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pickup a mouse and design your own network. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you're entitled to! Ok, I have a user who is sending out meeting request, but when he receives a confirmation from the parties he sent the request to, he receives an error stating that the request doesn't exist in his calender, also he is receiving the unable to update free/busy schedule information and I checked MS' website and the role is set to editor, yet he is still receiving the problem, what can I do to fix this, any help would be appreciated _ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

RE: WORM_KLEZ.G Sever Impact
It should be noted that if you want to see where these message are coming, you can easily open the virus e-mail and click view, then go down to options, and in the internet heading it will tell you what mail server the message was sent from. That should give you a really good heads up on where you are getting the e-mail from, and disabled mail coming in from that particular domain. That's what I have done anyway. I just took a look at my exchange servers, and one of them was pegged at 100%. Recover Deleted Items
I need some help with a certain situation. When the COO of my company receives mail to his corporate account after he reads the mail he deletes it, and then at the end of the day he empties his deleted items folder. He was on the road from 2/9/02 thru 2/13/02. He needed to recover a file from the Deleted Items Recovery, and was exploring. He was scrolling down, when he noticed something. After the last e-mail he received on 2/8/02 instead of it going to 2/9/02 it went to 2/14/02. What happened to the messages that he deleted when he was away. I need to find an answer for this. Ok whenever you enter a web address into a composed message in Outlook it automatically turns into a hyperlink. I know there is a way to keep it from doing this, but don't remember how. RE: Weird Error
Thanks for the breakdown, Ben. -Original Message- From: Benjamin Winzenz [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, January 04, 2002 2:37 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Weird Error You can argue both ways. But for the sake of simplicity, just tell him that it did come from MSN. If he needs a detailed explanation, then you need to explain to him the way that mail works. The message goes to your server, which then attempts to contact the remote server (MSN in this case). It tells the remote server who the mail is coming from, and the address it is sending to, at which point, in this case, the MSN server responded back, saying, that recipient address is invalid, or doesn't exist here, or something similar, however you want to understand it. It then says I can't accept the message because you are attempting to send to a recipient I don't recognize, and rejects the message. Then, your server returns the response from the System Administrator to the originator (your boss), stating that I attempted to deliver the message to the requested recipient, and failed. Is that a better explanation? If you want to see how it works, then open up a telnet session to your mail server (or a remote mail server for that matter) and get familiar with the commands. That is all mail servers do to talk to each other. Another CA Problem
Another problem I seem to have every so often with InoculateIT. After I apply one of their Signature updates. I do all required steps to install the patch. I stop the services and make sure the RTExch.exe files are all stopped, then I apply the patch, and restart my services. Well after a few hours I notice that my server is pegged at 100% and I look at the Task Manager and the RTExch.exe's that are running are using alot of cpu. Am I doing something wrong. Is the process just a runaway, or is it actually doing something. I have check my event log and there have been no Virus stops, and my InoculateIT accounts do show any signs of being in use. I am running a NT 4.0 server SP6a, with Exchange 5.5 SP4. Organizational Forms
I have most of my E-Forms in the Organizational Forms Folder. Now I want to let everyone View the folder, and also read the items in the folder, but I want to prevent them from designing, and publishing any forms. I have tried everywhich way till sunday to do this, but can't come up with a way. Can anyone lend some insight into this topic for me. Also I had a past user that created a form. In this form the boxes are not sunken but they have a black border around them, I have tried for the life of me to duplicate this, but cannot can someone lead me in the correct direction here also. Stop the event service. 2. From the \bin directory, run events.exe /c:{exchange server name} 3. Start the event service. Obviously, {exchange server name} means the name of the old server. If there are multiple entries for the same server, you must run the command line entry once for each occurrence. Then go back into Admin and do a refresh - they should be gone. RE: Long Gone Users
From one of the e-mails sent about two weeks ago it has been happening for awhile. I have been created a profile for the one individual I think it is a problem for, and they don't have any server side rules.
