Those are all bad messages that accumulated under the mta folder over
time. How do you consider them bad, mapi is very sensitive and it could
be any reason why it thought that message was bad, you can safely delete
them using windows explorer.

RE: Exchange 2000 and GC

2002-11-05 Thread kanee
The way to do it is have a cisco local redirector in front of your 2 GC
and then do a load balancing rule on the cisco local redirector to send
all traffic to gc1 untill processor threshold reaches 80% and then after
80% to send traffic to GC2 this way gc1 will answer all requests until
its processor threshold reaches 80% and then shift load to gc2.

Subject: Exchange 2000 and GC

 Hi Folks,

I have plans to create almost a big Exchange 2000 environment. And I
have
some open question where I need more a real life answers than MS-white
papers.

At first I will create own AD site for Exchange 2000, so users logons
will
go other sites. Also I thought to install GCs on the same servers than
Exchanges are. I haven't seen any good answers we should I not to do
this.
Backup/recovery might be one and if I have problems with GC, but
still...

But if I use GCs on the same server, then I might have better
performance
from GC, less users and only one Exchange per GC. Maybe I need one
server
more to decrease user counts on one server, but it should not be so big.
So I don't need so much hardware. And now it is very easy to dedicate
one
GC per one Exchange 2000 servers.

If I use separated GC servers:
MS recommends using one CPU in GC against four Exchange servers, which
have one CPU. This sounds like no matter how many users we will have in
Exchange servers ? If I have eight servers where are 10 users in each
one.
Do I still need two GC servers (assuming that servers are one CPU
servers).

Is here anyone who have more than ~3500 users per server which is not
clustered ? May I hear any comments from you, how it really works ? How
often you are rebooting your servers or unmounting databases ? Was it
SLA
your only argument when you planned storage groups and databases ?

  best regards
  .-Pepi-.

FW: Interesting EX2K migration solution

2002-11-02 Thread kanee

It is possible. You don't need a GC in the location that has no
win2k/e2k, all you need is a proper dns or a wins entry on your nt4
location dns server for the e2k server on the other side and your users
will be able to connect with their outlook to that e2k server. I am just
wondering what your plan is to move the mailboxes from NT 4 location to
E2K server in the other location. Are you guys planning on dropping a
ADC and do it that way or do you just plan to use EXMERGE and do it that
way.

Thx

Our company runs EX 5.5 in 2 separate Organizations & NT domains, as
well as
2 separate locations. To save in migration cost to EX2K, they've decided
to
migrate to EX2K/W2K/AD in only 1 location and move all the mailboxes
from
other location there. The other location will retain its NT domain
scheme,
however these users will have to log on the remote W2K domain now, to
access
EX2K, across a Frame Relay (1024kbps). I thought there has to be a local
GC
in each location for this work, but obviously that's not possible in an
NT4
domain.

So I'm just wondering, will this work?!

Thanks

RE: HELP, can I change the name of the exchange server?

2002-08-15 Thread kanee

Right now renaming a e2k server is hard. Since it uses AD renaming the
netbios name is not a good idea unless you are very familiar with ADSI
edit utility. IT seems simple enough to change the netbios name but I am
not sure that all instances of that name will get changed in the AD
structure, its just like renaming a domain, right now you can rename a
child domain but you have ti do a lot of stuff thru adsi edit to make it
work because not all instances of the domain name get changed in the AD
structure, not to mention the changes in the registry. That's why they
have made it easier to rename the child domains in .NET. But I moved a
exchange server from ny to ma, changed ips put it into a completely
different ip scheme and it worked like a charm, given that changing an
IP is much easier than renaming, but I think you should be ok to rename
as long as you make sure the new name has an account in the domain, all
your wins records are updated and your dns records are updated.

But if you are so concerned about the bug on the old server, once you
move all the mailboxes to the new server, why don't you just remove the
old server from the site, that way the old server is totally out of the
picture. JUST MAKE SURE YOUR MX RECORDS ARE POINTED TO THE RIGHT SERVER,
ALSO IF YOU DO THIS AND REMOVE THE OLD SERVER OUT OF THE SITE THEN YOU
MIGHT HAVE TO MANUALLY EDIT ALL THE OUTLOOK PROFILES. SO I SUGGEST
MOVING ALL MAILBOXES OVER TO NEW SERVER, MAKE THE MX RECORD POINT TO NEW
SERVER THEN MAKE SURE YOU HAVE MAIL FLOW FOR A DAY, IN ONE DAY MAKE SURE
ALL YOUR CLIENTS CONNECT TO EXCHANGE SERVER, THIS WAY ALL THEIR OUTLOOKS
ARE UPDATED AUTOMATICALLY WITH THE NEW SERVER NAME AND THEN REMOVE THE
OLD SERVER OUT OF THE SITE. HOPE THIS HELPS...GOOD LUCK :-)

Thanks Kanee,

My reasoning for removing the original server right away was because of
the damn bug. I am still a little concerned that the mailflow might
still stop with this bugged server still active in the site. I could
change the DNS entry and make it point the old name to the new server...
One dumb thing is, we have developers that run scripts on databases that
send email. The server name is hard coded into the scripts so they all
must be changed also.

Christ, 14 gigs of public folders need to be rehomed and 40+ gigs of
user mail needs to be moved in less then 2 days... And I was told I had
good karma :P

I've read Ed's move server method, technet and support sites.. but
nowhere does it say I can rename a exchange 2000 server.. did find one
on Ex5.5 though. (Wish I knew that last year :)

Thanks again..

Varghese,

For right now you can leave the first server up and running, once you
move the mailboxes over to the new server. You don't have to change the
server name in the clients outlook configuaration. After moving the
mailboxes over to the new server just connect a clients outlook without
making any changes, the mta from your old server will automatically
redirect your clients to the new server as long as both the old server

Looks like the bug with SP3 not picking up email is going to the
debugging group and the only thing I can do is rebuild my exchange

What I want to do is, create a new server and join it to the current
site. (MS has confirmed we can add an SP2 machine to an SP3 site) then
move the mailboxes over. (40 gigs of it will take all weekend at least)

But once it's done, I want to rename the new server with the old
exchange servers name so the outlook clients can still connect. Is this
possible?

Anyone changed a server name before and if so, what issued have you come
across?

Please any info can be helpful. This is kind of an emergency..

Thanks in advance,

RE: This is a non-related Exchange issue

2002-08-09 Thread kanee

look for a software called track-it, its ok, it will get what you need done. Also look
at bind but its expensive, look into sms but that is expensive. With track-it you can
actually run a little agent on all your workstations, which can be done remotely from
your track-it server console, it will get you the licensing info on all your
workstations and actually already put it in a database and you can run queries and
reports against that database.

Good afternoon,

I am sorry to bother you but I have been assigned a new task and I had
no one else to ask except the list serves.

The task is keeping track of software licenses. That includes every
licenses that we have except license plates. Does anyone know of a
product that might help me keep track of these? I need to take a manual
inventory and then insert them into a database of some sort or another.

Any help would be appreciated.

RE: SEPARATE EXCHANGE ROUTING GROUPS FOR HOSTING SAME DOMAIN ONSEPARATE EXCHANGE 2000 SERVERS

2002-08-09 Thread kanee

just because you have two exchange servers in 2 seperate routing groups that should
not prevent the 2 exchange servers from seeing each other or for the MTA's on each
server to be able to recognise which server the mailboxes are on and send them to the
appropriate server.

Are your routing groups connected via a smtp or a ip connector. Also are the upns for
the users the same on both servers, meaning when you create a user name on the win2k
dc when it gives you the option for upn name does it say xyz.com on both servers,
meaning if you create a user cslled kane on server a is it [EMAIL PROTECTED] and if you
create a user called kane1 on server b is it [EMAIL PROTECTED] or is it
[EMAIL PROTECTED] UPNS have to be the same on both servers. Having said that are
these 2 servers in the same domain, sorry if you had already answered this question in
your essay, but answer it again. Are they part of the same domain or are they 2
seperate domainslike one is xyz.us.com and the other is xyz.europe.com. If they are
different i bet you your upns are also different. I would suggest trying to create a
upn on server b also called xyz.us.com and assign that all your users and then see if
the problem goes away. Also for your users in europe have you created a smtp server on
their exchange server and have that forward to a smart host or you did not bother
creating a virtual smtp server and directly forwarding everything to a smart host.
Just wondering..hope this helps or atleast give you a direction to look in to trouble
shoot.

Are the two domains in the same AD forest? If not, you have two
organizations and you will need some sort of third party directory
syncronization utility to essentially create contacts on one side for
mailboxes on the other.

Subject: SEPARATE EXCHANGE ROUTING GROUPS FOR HOSTING SAME DOMAIN ON
SEPARATE EXCHANGE 2000 SERVERS

Hi!

I am trying to host a single domain, named us.com on two separate
exchange 2000 servers that are each in a separate routing group
connected by a routing group connector.

However, it is not possible to send mail between recipients hosted on
each exchange server, since a bounce occurs. Apparently, the same domain
cannot be hosted on two exchange servers that are in SEPARATE routing
groups.

The above scenario DOES WORK if placing the two exchange servers in the
SAME routing group. It appears that having exchange servers in the same
routing group ensures that both exchange servers are using the same
global catalog in active directory to deliver mail.

The way my domain is split is so that one server, call it server A,
hosts part of mailboxes for domain us.com. Server B hosts part of
mailboxes for domain us.com and all mailboxes for domain europe.local.
Both server A and B are primary domain controllers with active
directory, DNS and Exchange installed on a single machine.

Why do server A and B have to be in different routing groups and have to
host the same domain? Server A is located in the US, server B is in
Europe. They are connected via a rather reliable VPN. Only server A has
a static Internet IP assigned, therefore server B cannot directly accept
messages from the Internet; it is connected to a DSL modem with a
dynamic IP. Users on server A and B share the same domain name - us.com;
user account and mailbox for [EMAIL PROTECTED] is located in the US on server
A, while user account and mailbox for [EMAIL PROTECTED] is located in Europe
on server B. European users (connecting to server B) cannot have their
accounts hosted on server A, since they use Outlook to connect to server
B locally. The same, European, users also must have @us.com domain email
set as Primary SMTP Account, with the intranet SMTP address
@europe.local set as secondary SMTP account.

ACTIVE DIRECTORY IMPLEMENTATION:
Server A is PDC for domain us.com and has a trust relationship
established with server B that is PDC for domain europe.local. Both
domains are within the same forest. The DNS entry for domain us.com is
on server A, a secondary copy of the domain us.com is stored in server
B's DNS. The MX record for domain us.com is pointing only to the
exchange server A, the host being a.us.com. Is there a better DNS
configuration for what we want?

Both Exchange servers are in the same Exchange organization and in the
same administrative group. Once routing connectors are created, servers
are connected to each other, everything appears to be working in the
monitoring view.

RE: domainprep on 2nd nt domain that belongs to a forest

2002-08-09 Thread kanee

Just wondering,

You said 1 forest 2 nt domains. First nt domain has an exchange server and is working
fine. 2nd nt domain gives you the error you have described below when trying to
install a exchange server.

Have you created a 2 way trust between the win2k domain and the 2nd nt domain. Can you
get to the win2k dc cia pinging it by FQDN.

Does your first nt domain have a trust with win2k domain. Also just curious if you are
running in native mode why not just convert 2nd nt domain to a AD domain. But make
sure there are trusts setup between ll these domains that might be worth looking into
and also make sure you can get to the DC using its FQDN.

Let us know if this helped.

RE: Move server method

2002-08-09 Thread kanee

Wouldnt be just easier for you to install 2nd server with win2k sp2 exc2k sp2, make it
join the same site then move the mailboxes over to the server you just build, make
sure you configure the smtp server. then kill the original exchange server, rebuild it
with the sam enetbios name and so on and then bring it back online and move all the
mailboxes back to that server and make sure smtp and what ever other protocols you
want use are configured properly and once that is done just leave the second server
that moved all the mailboxes off to the original server after rebuils in the
environment for the futur expansion or just kill it. Then you will end up back with
the original exchange server taht you rebuilt still hosting all the mailboxes and you
would have accomplshed your goal.

let me know if this helped.

Subject: Move server method

I am running exchange 2000(sp2) on a on a win2k(sp2) DC. What I want to do
is bring in a new server, put win2k on it, then move everything over. I
want to wipe out the old server, resinstall win2k(sp2), install exchange
2000(sp2) then move everything back. My company does not want the exchange
server to be a DC. I started to follow Ed's move server method. I
installed win2k sp2, installed exchange 2000sp2. Here is where the problem
is: the information store won't mount on the 2nd server. I check dns I can
ping the old mail server and the other DC's. It is installed in the same
domain as the 1st exchange server.

I receive the following in the event viewer:

The MAPI call 'OpenMsgStore' failed with the following error:
The Microsoft Exchange Server computer is not available. Either there are
network problems or the Microsoft Exchange Server computer is down for
maintenance.
The MAPI provider failed.
Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store
ID no: 8004011d-0526-

I found a q article form microsoft saying to check to see if the
"SeSecurityPrivilge" right is found. I check the DC's and none had it. I
went to our first DC and ran the fix and that did not work. I'm not sure
where I went wrong. Has anybody else had this problem trying to install
exchange 2000 on a second server? My administrator said to run the ADC but
I thought that was only for 5.5 servers which we don't have. Does anyone
have any suggestions?

Thanks
vin

Why don't you just forward their mailbox from the other exchange server
to their mailboxes on your server. This way they wont loose any

Outlook to access both Exchange servers?

RE: Drive M missing

Leo,

When you see a virtual directory in iis manager in red and says path not
found all that means is that iis initialised that directory before all
exchange services were initialed completely. If you stop your www

wont get the path not found or cannot enumarate errors in iis.

Hope this helps...

Folks, all the services start and yes there is an M: drive (EXIFS
provides it). All the stores mount and everything appears to be ok.
Actually I have not had chance to stop and restart the EXIFS service
(that may do it). But somehow when you see the website defined in
Internet services manager and you click on it and it says it can't find
the path you start to gather that something is wrong.

All the other servers do not exhibit this problem and I would appreciate
some options (whilst joking is a great way to communicate it may not be
the way to solve this but hey whadda I know?)

RE: OWA and Drive Mappings

2002-06-23 Thread kanee

This is what you can do. You can setup that server share on the iis
server as a virtual directory. Say
http://iisserver.domain.com/servershare, set on that virtual directory
"directory browsing allowed" and make sure you have read and write or
what ever permissions that you want, then create a folder called server
share under your inbox in outlook or whatever client you use then make
the default homepage of that folder
http://iisserver.domain.com/servershare . Now if you go into owa and
then click on that servershare folder under your inbox, it should try
and open that home page of that folder and it will try and open that
folder. This might work.

For this to work I need to know your owa setup. Is owa on your exchange
server or do you have an owa server that is separate than the exchange
server and sitting in a dmz, please tell me more about your owa setup
and depending on that you might have to open some more ports on your
firewall or set some rules to allow traffic to the server that the
servershare resides on for the above setup to work from outside without
being dialed in or vpn'd in.

thx

I have something I am trying in OWA but I am not sure that it can be
done or not.

I have a folder under my inbox that is setup as a link to a share on a
Win2K server. (\\SERVERNAME\Share). This works great while I am on the
network or when I am connected via a dial up/vpn connection. I can get
to my network share files without the need of a drive mapping.

Here is my situation. When I use Outlook Web Access and I click on this
folder, under my inbox, that links me to my Win2K server share, it tells
me that there are no items to view.

I am assuming this is not a supported feature with OWA or something may
not be configured on the Exchange Server to allow this type of access
while in OWA.

Anybody have any ideas.

It shows how ignorant you are, no body was trying to get into a pissing contest with

necessary if you enable retention and oh you are wasting resources and time and those
are not enough reasons for me to stop doing blb, thats an extra added cushion just
incase a mailbox gets corrupted, i can restore it all without effecting the entire
server..

now lets move on kid.

Kanee, if you want to get into a pissing contest with folks on this list
about the size of environments, you're a bigger bonehead that most of us
already think you are. You don't know me, Andy, Lori, or Ed. It's never
safe to assume anything from the email addresses people use. Many of the
folks on this list who have been around for a while know who I am. Some
of them know where I work. You are not one of them.

Not that it matters, I am currently doing infrastructure and
supportability consulting work for multiple customers with user bases
ranging from 5K to 100K. The last dedicated environment I was
responsible for was 60 servers, 19 sites, 4 countries, and 23K users.
Not a BLB in sight. One mailbox restore in 2.5 years. You do the math.
Are the tapes, time, and energy worth it? I posit that they are a waste
of your employer's money.

There are reasons why every person that has been at this for a while
says BLB's are a bad thing. When you are hired by a company to make
their environment more efficient and less costly, you do not do things
like BLB's. If your employer knew how much of their resources you were
wasting, I think they would be less than happy.

Delusions are not a substitute for experience and good judgment. Both of
which you are obviously lacking.

Regarding the sheep comment. You'll be lucky if Lori doesn't turn you
into one. [1]

Tom.

I have AD with domain.corp as the root domain. I have a child domain
called ny.domain.corp. I have a E2k server in ny.domain.corp, everything
works perfect. Now the client is moving the office to NH and wants
NH.domain.corp as a child domain, no longer wants ny.domain.corp.

So i will be moving the physical servers to nh and then build a new
server and run dcpromo and make it the first dc for a child domain
called nh.domain.corp. Now i will have domain.corp as the root domain,
ny.domain.corp as a child domain and a nh.domain.corp also as a child
domain.

Can i install exchange server on the dc for nh.domain.corp and then make
that exchange server join the same org and site as the exchange server
in ny.domain.corp and then move all the mailboxes over to the exchange
server in nh.domain.corp and then remove the exchange server from
ny.domain.corp?

Since the exchange server in ny.domain.corp is a horse in the sense it
is beefed up, reinstall win2k and e2k and make it join the
nh.domain.corp and then move all the mailboxes from the small exchange
server back to this one.

Will this work?

If not how would i go about accomplishing this.

Thx

error pops up and the overall status of the backup job shows up as failed,
the backup in actuality is successful, you can restore the users mailbox and
the only thing missing would be those messages that it reported as corrupted

Hi Kanee,

I do use blb, but only for a chosen few. I have to do this since it was
consuming our backup window and our tape (we have other things besides
mail :-). I love blb folder level backup. It save me once (my boss gave
me thumbs up when I recovered his beloved folder in minutes :-). I love
the mailbox backup level too, it save me once, too (an admin screwed up
with exmerge, wiping out a dozen mailboxes :-).

Suffice it to say, blb is a great feature poorly implemented (by the
backup sw or by exchange or both). If blb can backup w the speed and
optimization of _normal_ dir/info store backup, then I will go back to
doing full blb again. This is just humble opinion only.

All you funny guys have not given me a single reason as to why you should not do brick
level back ups and your comments carry no value unless you back it up with some
substance..and hope none of funny cats are using arcserve as your backup product, if
you are i understand why you are so scared of brick level backups...

This has been a known issue with veritas products. The mapi32.dll file
is very sensitive and reports errors on messages as cannot open and thus
will show the status of backup as failed. There isnt really much you can
do about this, except ask the user to delete the message its referencing
in the error message from his mailbox and empty it from deleted items.

I have spent some time with veritas and they point fingers at microsoft
and i spoke to microsoft and they point the fingers back to veritas,
veritas knows of this issue and they say they are looking at a solution
and should be out in the next build for backup exec8.6, i know you use
netbackup so maybe you should look into their next build for netbackup.
Even though this error pops up and the overall status of the backup job
shows up as failed, the backup in actuality is successful, you can
restore the users mailbox and the only thing missing would be those
messages that it reported as corrupted or cannot open. So dont loose any

So its wrong because other people said it is. You make your own conclusions thru
experience and i have not found any issues so far with running brick level backups.

So andy give me some more logical reasons as to why brick level backup is not good
rather than just because other admins said so

is it that so many Exchange Admins on this list recommend you do not use

DUDE - I did read the whole thread. What it appears you are trying to
accomplish is getting IIS to log everything to a mapped drive or UNC path -
if your web sites are so high traffic as you claim, you wouldn't want to
incur the network overhead of doing that. So then YOU SAID, and I quote "I
am thinking of just writing them to the local disk and then copy them to the
logfile server every night with a batch file before the webtrends prog runs
to analyse the logs." I just pointed out that you don't need to write a
batch file - which if you knew you didn't need to write a batch file, why did
you say you would write a batch file.

Webtrends can simply retrieve the log files, you don't need to write a batch
file.

You might also want to move this discussion over to
http://www.15seconds.com/listserv.htm, an IIS5 list where it is more on
topic. Also, if this is a public website, I would not have them as member
servers of your internal domain

i cannot take that risk that comes along with the odbc logging i thought

I am thinking of just writing them to the local disk and then copy them to

Why can't you log to an ODBC datasource. This is not as performant as
logging to a file.

IIS runs under the local system account. The documentation you are reading
must be incorrect.

A note on IIS Logging. This is a high performance asynchronous process. So
entries are flushed to disk when processor cycles permit. ODBC logging will
degrade performance on your server as it is more of a synchronous process and
as such prone to locking.

I suggest you write to disk and then use a perl script to merge the log
files.

Its much easier to use the GraniteCanyon although I havent used Granite

That's all you need to do.create a zone for your domain name on
granitecanyon and change the SOA for your zone at the place you bought
your domain name from.

Also make sure you make some sort of a donation to granite canyon, it
doesn't matter how much because they provide us with a great

I realize this post is a bit OT, but put it under the heading: minimize
missed mail! we got into a tiff with our webhosting company over the DNS
hostfile, and are thinking about using granitecanyon. If i want to make
the public nameserver at granitecanyon authoritative, does the previous
authoritative nameserver need to do anything, or do i simply update our
registration info? The goal here is to keep e-mail flowing the entire
time. Reply offlist to [EMAIL PROTECTED] if you think this is too
off-topic... Thx, Jeremy

Webtrends can simply retrieve the log files, you don't need to write a
batch file.

You might also want to move this discussion over to
http://www.15seconds.com/listserv.htm, an IIS5 list where it is more on
topic. Also, if this is a public website, I would not have them as
member servers of your internal domain

I am thinking of just writing them to the local disk and then copy them

Why can't you log to an ODBC datasource. This is not as performant as

IIS runs under the local system account. The documentation you are
reading must be incorrect.

A note on IIS Logging. This is a high performance asynchronous process.
So entries are flushed to disk when processor cycles permit. ODBC
logging will degrade performance on your server as it is more of a
synchronous process and as such prone to locking.

I suggest you write to disk and then use a perl script to merge the log
files.

First of all ARCSERVE has issues with restoring active directory anyway,
so you might want to convince them to move away from arcserve now while
they can.

Hi

Again I begin by saying that I prefer Bexec but for some reason I have a
customer migrating to Ex 2000 and they already have ArcServe 2000

Do you know if AS2000 installed on a DC(File Server) can backup a remote
Exchange server on the network with the exchange agent ? Or ArcServe
must absolutly installed on Ex2000 wiht the exchange agent ?

Thanks

IIS QUESTION

2002-06-03 Thread kanee

Here is the scenario. i have serverA, serverB and SERVERC(LOG FILE SERVER)

I need to redirect all the websites log files from serverA and ServerB to serverC.

In IIS5.0 when you go into the logfile properties and try to change the patch to a
mapped drive it clearly says mapped drives and UNC paths are not supported. But in
winNT4.0 it is supported. So i go into the logfile properties on serverA and serverB
and change the logfile path from %systemroot%\system32\logfiles to f:\logfiles(mapped
drive to serverC) it accepts the path but records event id:2 cannot create folder and
cannot write to drive errors. I looked it up and the article says that IIS will write
logfiles with the logged on username meaning the account you use for iisadmin service
account and if that account doesnt have rights on the path it will try and use the
system account. When i go to serverA and serverB and look at the iis admin service it
is using the system account and i am trying to change it to my account but the options
are dimmed out meaning i cannot change the service account from system to m y user id.
I tried this hoping that if i use my user id as the service account then my account
has administrative rights on the log file server and i would be ok now that i cannot
change the logon account my only option is to give the system accounts from serverA
and serverB administrative rights on serverC but i cannot find the system account in
user manager for serverA and serverB. I have looked on my pdc and bdc and i can see
the system account but on my serverA and serverB which are member servers i dont see
the system account, if i can see the system account on serverA and serverB then i can
add them to the administrators group on serverC but i dont even see them...

ANY IDEAS???

I also have a perl-based script that will move mailboxes from a specific
db/server to a specific db/server (or list of dbs).

If you're interested, I'll through it in a zip and send it to ya.

David,

you can move a users mailbox with script, look up CDOEXM

here's a unchecked code snippet:

Sub ADSIMoveMailbox(recipname As String, DestinationServer As String,
MailBoxStore As String, StorageGroup As String)

Dim objUser As IADsUser

Dim objMailbox As CDOEXM.IMailboxStore

Dim strMove As String

Dim exchPath

On Error GoTo errorhandler

Set objUser = GetObject(recipname)

Set objMailbox = objUser

If objMailbox.HomeMDB <> "" Then

exchPath = DestinationServer

If exchPath <> "" Then

   strMove = "cn=" + MailBoxStore + ",cn=" + StorageGroup +
",cn=InformationStore," + exchPath

MsgBox "Now Moving:" & objUser.Name

objMailbox.MoveMailbox strMove <-- This does all the work

   objUser.SetInfo

MsgBox "Move Mailbox operation has been completed for user " +
recipname

Else

MsgBox "FAIL :Server " + DestinationServer + " not found"

End If

Else

MsgBox "FAIL: no mailbox to move for " + recipname

End If

On Error Goto 0

GoTo EndofItAll

errorhandler:

If Err <> 0 Then

MsgBox "FAIL: Move Mailbox Error while moving user " + recipname
+ ". Error Code is " + Str(Err)

   Exit Sub

End If

EndofItAll:

End Sub

RE: NT to AD Backout Problem

2002-05-23 Thread kanee

you need to remove those win2k workstations out of the domain into a workgroup, then
reboot, then readd them back to the domain, this time when you add them to the domain
they will pick up the correct nt domain from your nt servers. Even though your domain
is the same name , win2k workstations have to be removed from the domain because they
have a domain sid assigned in their registry which points to the win2k DC, since you
took the win2k dc's offline, the win2k servers still are looking for that domain sid
and your nt server does not have the same domain sid and thus the message trust has
been broken.

Remove them from the domain and add them back and all your win2k workstations will be
fine.

Let me know if that helped.

thx

My gut feel is that you'd have better luck promoting one of the BDCs to PDC
for backout.

More of an NT/AD than an Exchange issue, but we're only going to AD to get
to Exchange 2000, so here goes:

As part of planning our migration from our current single NT domain to a
single-forest, single-domain active directory, a plan to back out this
upgrade in case of unforeseen problems is being developed and tested.

The upgrade plan goes something like this:

- Create a new NT BDC on new hardware.
- Take the production NT PDC offline prior to the AD upgrade.
- Promote a new BDC to the PDC.
- Upgrade the PDC to AD

This is all done using the same netbios domain name in AD as we had in NT,
and an internal DNS namespace name that happens to be the same as our
WinNT/AD domain name.

And, it works great. But, just in case it does not go as well in the real
world as it does in our lab, we have the following as a backout plan:

- Take the new AD DC(s) offline
- Put the old PDC online.
- Re-sync the NT domain

So far, so good. It all works great - everyone can log back on to the old NT
domain and keep going while I figure out what went wrong.

Well there is one exception: Windows 2000 workstations and member servers
cannot log on - they get a 'Broken trust relationship with the domain
controller' message at log on. Win9x and NT boxes have no problem.

Any ideas?? Much thanks for any assist.

Received-From-MTA: dns;a-exch-pri.calibercollision.com
Arrival-Date: Tue, 21 May 2002 19:00:50 -0700

Final-Recipient: rfc822;[EMAIL PROTECTED]
