Moving SRS
Windows 2000 SP3 Exchange 2000 SP3 Exchage 5.5 SP4 100% Active Directory I have an Exchange 5.5 Site with three servers. Server AExchange 2000 SP3 (With SRS) Server BExchange 2000 SP3 Server CExchange 5.5 SP4 (Bridgehead) I want to remove Server A completely from the Site. So I immediately when 282108 which states that you can't move the SRS but you can create a second copy and then delete the orignal. So following 255285 I created a second copy of SRS on Server B. I now have a configCA in my ADC for Server B and I can access the srs through the Exchange 5.5 admin tool. So everything looks great except for one thing. On server A there is a mailbox called Microsoft Exchange Site Replication ServiceBut on Server B which now also has a copy of the SRS there is no such Mailbox. Should I be worried here? We have not yet deleted the SRS off of Server A.we just stopped the SRS service. Has anyone done this before? Any help is greatly appreciated. _ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

RE: Moving SRS
Actually what we did during a recent migration was to simply delete the SRS and then re-created it on another server. Then we monitored SRS replication to make sure all was going well. I am try to install a new Site Replication Service onto my Ex2k (SP2) server but I'm getting the error, Error code 0XC1030B0C (2828): The Distinguished Name already exists. Try the operation again. SRS and E2K Migration questions
I'm struggling to understand the concepts of SRS and migration to a single AG and haven't found too much info either in Technet or other resources, altho' I did find a good article on the Exchange Admin site. I haven't moved to a test environment yet as I just want to understand the concepts first. We have 5 sites each with 1 x 5.5 server in a hub and spoke topology. We plan to migrate site at a time reusing hardware from the previous site. (mixed mode AD currently in place, single domain) 1. As we migrate to E2K in a mixed environment, each site will become an AG in it's own right. Correct? 2. This means that I can only reach my ideal model of a single AG when we have migrated completely and switched to native mode. Yes? 3. Can I do this in a single hop method...ie install my E2K server in the 5.5 site, move my 5.5 mbxs etc, and then follow Q284148 to remove the 5.5 server completely from the Site/AG before moving on to the next site, or do I need another temp server and move users twice. Once from 5.5 into Same Site/AG but on E2K server, and then onto a different E2K server in the final AG? 4. Do I need an SRS server in each AG while I have 5.5 servers in the Org? RE: SRS and E2K Migration questions
1. Yes, taking the old site's display name. 2. Yes, and even then you can't move servers, just users. 3. You'll have to move to an E2K server in the original site, then, once in native mode, from the original administrative group to the final one. But you only need to bring up one intermediate server, the new E2K server in the original administrative group. 4. The SRS gets created automatically on the first Exchange 2000 server you bring up in a mixed site. Don't worry about it; there is nothing you need to do with it. Thanks piles Ed, So...a key point I've taken is this: Even when in Native Mode with 5 legacy Sites/AG's, I cannot move Servers between Administration Groups; But still some confusion on 3. If I can't move servers between AG's in mixed or native mode, I would still need a 2nd intermediate server for each Site/AG to move to the final AG. How can U check what is in SRS
We have an SRS.edb file on our Exchange 2000 server but we don't think it has any valid data in it as the exchange 5.5 site we joined does not see any config data (even when we force replication of the config_CA). We have run eseutil to dump out the table stats and there appears to be data in there but I don't know for sure as all this displays is a list of table names and a few figures. We think the exchange 2000 configuraion is not being written into this file and need to prove it. Any tools available to do this? RE: How can U check what is in SRS
And what were the results of the RPC Ping tests in your previous thread? Side note: I read around 500 Exchange related posts a day between the various forums I monitor, which I'm sure isn't a record of any kind... But still, it's pure chance I happened to remember that you asked a similar question earlier in this forum. To me it seems silly to have to start all over again, when unless I'm missing something, there's already a perfectly good thread hanging out there waiting for additional information. > -Original Message- > From: Leo [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Thursday, June 06, 2002 8:51 AM > To: Exchange Discussions > Subject: How can U check what is in SRS > > > We have an SRS.edb file on our Exchange 2000 server but we > don't think it has any valid data in it as the exchange 5.5 > site we joined does not see any config data (even when we > force replication of the config_CA). > > We have run eseutil to dump out the table stats and there > appears to be data in there but I don't know for sure as all > this displays is a list of table names and a few figures. > > We think the exchange 2000 configuraion is not being written > into this file and need to prove it. > > Any tools available to do this? > > Leo _ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: Failed to install SRS with error "The distinguished name already exists..."
I have had this error when trying to create an additional SRS on a server that had had one previously. Is this what is happening in your case? It was during a call I had logged with Microsoft PSS. They looked up their version of the article (255703) and the engineers original notes but could offer no further information. I can't remember off-hand how we got round the issue but if you called PSS I would hope they do not charge you since it is their article that is at fault and not your interpretation. I'll ask my colleagues and if someone remembers what we did (other than installing an SRS on a different server) I'll let you know. rgrds Mark > I am trying to install the SRS on a server and keep getting the error, > > "The distinguished name already exists. Yes there was a previous SRS on this server. I am also sure uninstalling exchange and demoting this domain controller (it's a backup server - no mailboxes), renaming the server and reinstalling exchange will allow me to create a new SRS - but I'd rather know the cause & resolution. -Original Message- From: Mark H [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, 9 January 2003 12:50 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: Re: Failed to install SRS with error "The distinguished name already exists..."
