you know what annoys me is that the default for public folders is not
invisible. any Tom Dick and Harry can make public folders which is good but
they should be invisible by default so there is not 17 zillion in accessable
public folders. especially when they get mirrored on other sites but not
actually replicated. crappy design.

Hello All,

I did a little research, but didn't find anything...I remember reading that
there is a process that removes permission's to pub folders periodically
based on account status (ie deleted, removed). Was I dreaming?? (hopefully
not about exchange). What I have are a bunch of left over admin names listed
in the permission's for pub folders. Not a big deal, just annoying...

Thanks!!

Exchange 5.5, NT4.

I set up a public folder for collection of various email messages. I'm
the
owner and I gave myself user permissions on the folder as well.
However,
when I try to send an email with the email address of the public folder
as
the "from" address, it tells me I don't have send on behalf of
permissions.

I set it up yesterday and tried various things with no success. On
another
mailbox I can send as, the permissions are the same. Is it not possible
to
send as for a public folder?

Thanks, Michelle

Take a
standard user, log onto that server. Make sure they have the log on as locally
right. After you log on with that user, try the OWA and see the results – make sure
to use \\server\exchange\logon.asp
for access

I had
problems with rights within IIS and found this to work:

Site – Anonymous
and NT Challenge

Exchange –
Anonymous and basic

RE: IIS Lock Down tool.

2001-09-02 Thread Simon Curtiss

Well I would be very very careful, 'cos I just got bitten by this b$@%@%d.

I got an unrecoverable BSOD on my single Exchange Server and at 4pm on
Sunday and it took me 9 hours to wrestle the server back into production. No
data loss in the end - and as much as everyone hates ArcServeIT (and I'm one
of them) it saved my butt with the Disaster Recovery Option that we use.

I'm curious - does anyone who's used ArcServe 2000 still hate the product or
is this all based on the bad bad bad experiences they had with 6.5, 6.61 etc
etc etc.

I ask as I can upgrade Inoculate & Arcserve for my whole organisation for
less than $NZ 2500, or replace with Antigen & BE for about $NZ 20,000 - as
you could guess this will be pretty hard to argue through with my CFO -
Antigen in particular, as we use Mail Marshal which has all (and more) of
the content filtering that is in Antigen.

Dude, try to rationalize just not buying anymore seats of ArcReckIT, any
new servers you should get w/ BE. Since BEv8, their product has been the
best I have ever used. Their DR option is the bomb, used in a few times
never w/ a glitch, and its faster then just manually redoing the whole

Thanks Mark. I really don't want to have to pay but I'm finding it extremely
difficult to stay up on updates for all the networks and individual PC's in

Exchange 5.5, NT4.

I set up a public folder for collection of various email messages. I'm
the
owner and I gave myself user permissions on the folder as well.
However,
when I try to send an email with the email address of the public folder
as
the "from" address, it tells me I don't have send on behalf of
permissions.

I set it up yesterday and tried various things with no success. On
another
mailbox I can send as, the permissions are the same. Is it not possible
to
send as for a public folder?

Thanks, Michelle

RE: Brick Level Backups

2001-09-02 Thread John Allhiser
Title: Brick Level Backups

I'm a
little slow in checking the list.  I've had other
"Labors".
I will
say that William, your reply is worthy of a shortcut
key.

Where
I work, they use BE 7.5.  They had "open file" selected for
everything.  When I was hired, I immediately changed to
*gasp* NTBackup for our Exchange 5.5 systems.  I would offer
this: It doesn't matter what you use to back up the rest of your
network, databases (Exchange included) don't like 3rd party net
software.  The latest agents notwithstanding.  MS SQL comes with its
own backup software for this exact reason. NTBackup is Exchange aware right
out of the box.  Imagine asking a DBA if you could go ahead and load
ArcServe2000 on their DB server(s).

Dude, try to rationalize just not buying anymore seats of ArcReckIT, any
new servers you should get w/ BE. Since BEv8, their product has been the
best I have ever used. Their DR option is the bomb, used in a few times
never w/ a glitch, and its faster then just manually redoing the whole
thing!

Well I would be very very careful, 'cos I just got bitten by this
b$@%@%d.

I got an unrecoverable BSOD on my single Exchange Server and at 4pm on
Sunday and it took me 9 hours to wrestle the server back into
production. No
data loss in the end - and as much as everyone hates ArcServeIT (and I'm
one
of them) it saved my butt with the Disaster Recovery Option that we use.

I'm curious - does anyone who's used ArcServe 2000 still hate the
product or
is this all based on the bad bad bad experiences they had with 6.5, 6.61
etc
etc etc.

I ask as I can upgrade Inoculate & Arcserve for my whole organisation
for
less than $NZ 2500, or replace with Antigen & BE for about $NZ 20,000 -
as
you could guess this will be pretty hard to argue through with my CFO -
Antigen in particular, as we use Mail Marshal which has all (and more)
of
the content filtering that is in Antigen.

x400 addressing

2001-09-02 Thread Engels PHAT

Previously I've connected our Exchange Sites via the X400 connector. Due to
some problems I want to get rid of the X400 addresses and therefor I've
switched to the IMS. Exchange is still using the X400 addressing to send
mail to recipients. See below. How get I prevent Exchange is using .

In the logging on our virus scan machine, put behind the Exchange server I
can prove if Exchange is still using these addresses.

How can I get rid of them?
