Blocking External E-mail
Were using Exchange 5.5, SP4, on NT 4.0, SP6. I know if I remove the SMTP address from a users mailbox, they will not be able to RECEIVE incoming E-mail from outside of the company. I can't remember what setting I change though to block them from SENDING E-mail outside the company. A point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Exchange upgrade question
Hello all. I have a problem with Exchange 2k and AD (or, at least I think I do!). I have an Exchange 5.5 server in my domain, I built a new Exchange 2k server, and am using the move mailbox method to move users to the new Exch server. I first created an AD Connector to replicate the info from Ex 5.5 to AD, and it seemed to work. Several hours later, I ran the /ForestPrep utility before installing Ex2k. I have now fully installed Exch2k, and patched it with the latest sp. My problem is, when I right-click on a user in AD, and select the Exchange Tasks option, the only available Exchange option is Enable Instant Messaging. There is no Move Mailbox option which, according to everything I've read, there should be. Anyone seen this? Anyone have any ideas what's going on? It's as if the Exchange services didn't get installed on the new box. Help! Pat, 1.) Are you using the ADC from the Exchange CD? 2.) Do you have one-way or two-way replication setup? I believe you need to have two-way. I had two-way replication setup during my migration and everything worked fine. I did the move mailbox method. 3.) What machine are you using AD Users and Computers from? hidden recipients can't log into exchange via web outlook
I'd like to know of a way to hide names from the global address list via Exchange 5.5 without losing the capability for those hidden users from logging into the exchange server via web outlook. When you hide mailboxes/usernames in exchange's Advanced tab, those selected can no longer access their mail via web. They'll get the message: OWA was unable to get to your inbox. Our administrator mailbox usually received all Inbound mail failures. Many of these email failures are due to users subscribing to various email services like horoscopes, daily sports news, marketing news, job news etc. Is there a way to block these emails from evening entering our Exchange server? We get a ton of Inbound Failure messages everyday and 99percent of them are just useless listings that former employees had subscribed to. What is the best way to prevent these Inbound Mail Failure messages? Do you recommend putting all of these email address in Message Filtering? Is there a better option? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Site connectors between NT 2000 server
We have two Exchange 5.5 SP3 servers in different domains, one on NT4 and one on 2000 Server (don't ask why, way too complicated political). Users homed on the 2000 server now need access to calendars on the NT server. The 2000 server is NOT a domain controller. The two domains have a 100Meg LAN link. I can't get Exch5.5 on the 2000 server to communicate via a site connector with Exch5.5 on the NT server (still with me?), I get a DS_E_COMMUNICATIONS_PROBLEM error. Technet article Q150880 seems the only article remotely relevent, and says If the Exchange Server computer is only a member server of the domain and not a PDC or BDC, remote administration will not work. The Exchange Server must be either a BDC or a PDC. Anyone know if it's possible to get around this, or am I missing something? I don't really want to have to remove 2000 for NT, nor do I want to install Active Directory. List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm

There is no Move Mailbox option which, according to everything I've read, there should be. Anyone seen this? Anyone have any ideas what's going on? Help! MS crop tool for PST files
Has anyone used this tool? http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q296/0/88.ASP It sounds like there is no way to recover all the data in the PST file. If that is the case, does anyone know of any other tools that allow you to recover all the data? Also, according to the article, you have to call MS to get it. Is that because it's not free? install Exch 5.5 on Windows 2000?
I've tried installing Exchange Server 5.5 on a box running Windows 2000 Server, and every time I try I get a won't work with this software type of message. RE: install Exch 5.5 on Windows 2000?
It was a fresh Windows 2000 Server installation, no service pack yet installed, installing from a Select CD containing Exchange EE 5.5. I don't recall the exact error message, as this was a week or two ago and the machine is no longer in my hands, so I can't re-create the problem. Sorry this is so unhelpful. I guess I'll try it again in a week when I get that box back. Maybe I just goofed something up. I personally try to unsubscribe to as many as I can. Sometimes you can "view source" and go right to the unsub screen. If the e-mails shouldn't be going to someone else (like their replacement, manager, etc.) you can create a DL called "Ex-employees" and add the addresses to the smtp address list. They just "disappear". -Original Message- From: Sethi, Ali [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, October 02, 2001 11:59 AM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: Notification Inbound Mail Hello, We have deleted approximately 100 mailboxes that belonged to former employees. Our "administrator" mailbox usually received all Inbound mail failures. RE: MS crop tool for PST files
we have the same problem here. 1. Separate into years (1999.pst, 2000.pst, 2001.pst) 2. archive old years to CD 3. put the old years .pst files to the hard drive some place where they can't find them and open them in mail folders and don't back them up to the file server..that way you can search the file server for .pst files and if one appears like 1999.pst you can just blow it away knowing that it's on their CDs in their drawer... -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, 4 October 2001 8:32 AM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: MS crop tool for PST files On Wed, 3 Oct 2001, David N. I don't use Outlook myself, but if I did, you can bet I would use multiple PST files. RE: DS_E_BUSY : After Restoring DS
Wow dude, so you built another server entirely, not at all connected to the original? What ware did you use to do the restore, and what was the config of the orig server compared to the config of the second, ie sp levels, exchange HF's, names, all that. Also post back your steps, and order of installing all HF's, and sps, and then restores etc... jlc -Original Message- From: Saeed Ahmed [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, October 03, 2001 9:24 PM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: DS_E_BUSY : After Restoring DS Hi We r using exchagne 5.5 sp4 on NT4 sp6.
