LDAP delete on Exchange 5.5 directory

2001-12-17 Thread Rajalakshmi Iyer

Hi,

Does an LDAP delete operation on one of the recipient entries
in Exchange Directory Store only delete the directory data and
not the corresponding information store resources? If so, then
what is the best method to delete a mailbox entry in Exchange
5.5 directory server?
Also, when I add a mailbox entry from an LDAP client and not
through the Exchange Administration console, then do information
store resources get allocated for the same?

Thanks in advance,
Rajalakshmi Iyer

problem with OWA

2001-12-17 Thread Bob t. Berge

Hello all,

I have a small problem with OWA and 1 user, he keeps getting access denied and in the
eventlog i see that there is no such user or bad password.
Now when he logs on OWA from his office he has no problems at all, using the same
login/password.
The only difference there is, is that it failed when he tried it from UK and Belgium,
both using MSIE 5.0. The Ex2k server is in the Netherlands and over here and in
Germany he had no problem logging on using OWA, I think the IE 5.0 is the problem but
I am not sure.
When i go to OWA, I use the same URL as he does, but I get a domainbox and he does not
(not that it must be used, but still), I am using IE 6.0.

Any ideas?

TIA,

Bob

bother with URLScan, and all was fine and dandy.

RE: Exchange Topology tool

2001-12-17 Thread Jim Holmgren

Exmap is a great free tool - it does what it says. Easy and quick, all you
need is Visio.
I have a nice big printout of my Exchange Org. posted above my desk. Our
org. isn't very complex, but its nice to see all the sites and different
connectors represented graphically.

Does anybody know of a tool that will generate a visio diagram of your

with active directory. I am using Exchange 5.5 on a mixture on W2K and
NT boxes in our organization without AD.

 Many thanks.

Recovery question

2001-12-17 Thread Cross, Tom

Exchange 5.5 SP4 on W2K Sp1

You have a server in a multi-server site, that is not the first server. The
server falls in a river for a float test.

You rebuild the server and restore the info store. Will the new server's
directory be updated by another server in the site. If so, it it safe to
say that it would be smart to always keep more than one server in a site for
just this sort of situation? Do you have to KCC to kick this off.

Thanks in advance,

Tom

Prevent the use of PST

2001-12-17 Thread Micciche, Robert

Does anyone know of
a way to prevent users from adding and using PSt's on outlook configurations
that have already been deployed? I was thinking maybe I could use
Inoculate IT, by somehow telling Inoculate IT that a .pst is always a virus-
doesn't look like I can.

Anyone ever been

 Good afternoon,

 Outlook 98 Exchange 5.5 SP4

I have a user that is asking the following and I haven't a clue where to
 begin:

Original Work history couldn't find how to change the default, although I
know that my default for this is busy.
Debbie called to inquire when scheduling an all day appointment the
default
comes up as '' free '' and she has to manually select ''busy ''. She is
inquiring if there is an option that when this prompt comes up the default
would show as '' busy ''. Please assist. Thanks!

 Have a great holiday season.

I

these add-ons. Also, is reboot required after installation is completed?
README.TXT doesn't mention anything about it. TIA,

Basically whats happened is that a new user has arrived onsite with a CD

Yes, remove the read-only attribute that the file inherited when it was
burned to a cd.

SMTP (Telnet) from the command line: Exchange 5.5

2001-12-17 Thread Micciche, Robert

For the life of me,
I can not remember hot to send the data portion of an SMTP message from the
command line. Example:

telnet
"exchangeserver" 25

helo
"exchangeserver"

mail from: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

rcpt to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

What the heck is the
next part? I think it is simply DATA, Carriage Return, message, Carriage
Return, period, Carriage Return.

I can't get it to
work.Is there a guide I can look out there on the Internet?

Hello all,

I have a small problem with OWA and 1 user, he keeps getting access
denied and in the eventlog i see that there is no such user or bad
password.
Now when he logs on OWA from his office he has no problems at all, using
the same login/password.
The only difference there is, is that it failed when he tried it from UK
and Belgium, both using MSIE 5.0. The Ex2k server is in the Netherlands
and over here and in Germany he had no problem logging on using OWA, I
think the IE 5.0 is the problem but I am not sure.
When i go to OWA, I use the same URL as he does, but I get a domainbox
and he does not (not that it must be used, but still), I am using IE
6.0.

Any ideas?

TIA,

Bob

Hi Guys

I've been through the archives because I'm sure this has come up before
but I can't find it.

Basically whats happened is that a new user has arrived onsite with a CD
which contains a .pst file with all his old mail in it. When he tries to
connect the pst file as a personal folder he gets the error message File
access is denied. You do not have the permission required to access the
file .. Anyone know how to get round this. Like I say I'm sure
I've seen this answered before but its getting near xmas and my brain has
decided to go into holiday mode already

Not exactly. When you copy it to a Hard Disk it will carry over it's read only attribute.

1. Copy to Hard Disk
2. Change attribute to NOT be Read Only.
3. Import to Exchange IS
4. Not importing? Why do you own an Exchange server?

Yeah,
but when I telnet to a mail server on port 25, and do that smtp mail bit, then
check the recipient's mail, I get the note but with a blank subject and empty

After

[CRLF "." CRLF] upon which it sends the
message. But none of that stuff I typed shows up in the

About 60% of the OOO stuff being sent out provides wrong information.
Especially those with contact person X at 123-4567.

70% get sent to the wrong people. Most times using a rule that states if one
of these 20 people email me then they should get a message stating.

2001-12-17 Thread Sethi, Ali

Does anyone have some sort of hack tool that will allow you to change the
local admin password on a workstation and get into the OS? We took a machine
off the domain but didn't realize that the local admin password was not set
to the company default password.

Also is there is way to just load the windows 2k cd in and restart the pc
and have it so that it only does a reinstall and does not format the drive?

Thanks,

OK,

I did

Yeah, but when I telnet to a mail server on port
25, and do that smtp mail bit, then check the recipient's mail, I get the
note but with a blank subject and empty content pane. I've wondered
about that.

After I enter DATA, thenI type the message
lines, then do the [CRLF "." CRLF] upon
which it sends the message. But none of that stuff I typed shows up in
the note.

telnet

helo

What the

I can't get

Network browsing using Windows 2000 Professional

2001-12-17 Thread Nelson Aguillon

Hello everyone,

I'm having a problem with Windows 2000 Professional when browsing the
network for shared folders.
Specifically, on a server holding over 10,000 design files (roughly 20kb
each in size).
It's taking anywhere from 30 to 40 seconds to pull up the files on the
screen.
However, if I go to a Windows 95 machine and browse the network to the same
folder, it brings it up in about 3 to 4 seconds.
Any suggestions???

DNS issue? Do you have a Win2K DC which uses DNS for name resolution? I
had an intermittent issue with that 'til I got the DNS right.

Try this NT DL, which is mainly W2K now:

You could use Address Book Views in Exchange5.5 to maintain separate view of
the clients in the GAL and Galmod for their maintenance.

Or maintain them in Public Folders as advised.

Or you could use a third party app. ACT2000 is not bad. Goldmine is
another. Access2000 is another. These can be integrated with Outlook, but
all require a little work and training.

Subject: Reminders

Anyone else experiencing problems with OutLook 2002 not displaying
reminders? 2 different offices, one is mine, with Exchange 5.5 sp4+ on
an NT 4 server with W2K Pro clients. OutLook just doesn't display
reminders for the client unless you reboot the PC. OutLook 2K clients do
not see this issue.

Any ideas?
