We will be connecting via a WAN link to their office. We don't have the funds to buy another server. This will have to be sufficient. We have a firewall that connects us to their office that gives us access to the common drives and things of that nature. Also, our server is open for their access via a firewall on their end. Looks like I need to do some reading on how to do this and execute accordingly. RE: Outlook Web Access and SSL
1)Marketing techniques Their bulk mail campaign warning people that their domain name registration is about to expire, and if they would just follow these directions Verisign will take care of the renewal. The catch is the domain wasn't originally registered with Verisign. It reminded me too much of the "long distance wars" of a few years ago. 2)Call center support This was a problem in the past, but I think they have updated their tech database. We created the problem by moving a server to a different domain and upgrading to 2K. During the move, the current cert expired. It was a situation where the cert (not the request) had to be manually created. Second tier support did this without a hitch. The struggle was getting past the call support to get this done. It wasn't in their script so to speak. I guess that is somewhat typical of most helpdesks. Not really any serious bitch about them, but they do remind me of the Borg. :) -Original Message- From: William Lefkovics [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, May 21, 2002 5:37 PM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: Outlook Web Access and SSL What's wrong with Verisign? RE: Messages not arriving from particular addresses
If 34 is a front-end server, you can't have mailboxes on it can you? Or can you? Thanks Rob PS Did you look at the IIS SMTP Logs from 34 and 35, you might have to turn up the detail that is being logged because by default you don't get very much. -Original Message- From: Carl Houseman [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 21 May 2002 19:58 To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: Messages not arriving from particular addresses I don't think you'd see the bounce in the server 35 log if the message never cleared the initial SMTP dialog, which would be the case for an RFC rejection of the MAIL FROM address. At this point I'd suggest an analyzer which can display the smtp traffic between 34 and 35. Or, to further rule out things and confuse yourself, put a mailbox on server 34 and see if the message comes in OK. Or bypass 34, having the mail deliver directly to server 35. Good luck. Oooohhh, what a great idea. Should have though of it myself. I will move them to server 34 tonight. At least, if they start getting the emails, I can narrow the problem down to either the communication between server 34 and 35, or server 35 itself. It is so odd though, in the fact that it is only this one guy, everything else seems dandy. RE: Messages not arriving from particular addresses
I don't think you'd see the bounce in the server 35 log if the message never cleared the initial SMTP dialog, which would be the case for an RFC rejection of the MAIL FROM address. At this point I'd suggest an analyzer which can display the smtp traffic between 34 and 35. Or, to further rule out things and confuse yourself, put a mailbox on server 34 and see if the message comes in OK. Or bypass 34, having the mail deliver directly to server 35. Good luck. RE: Mailbox archiving/moving
Windows Explorer & Outlook. Drag and drop messages from Outlook folder to any storage folder (CD, HDD, network, etc.) No PST. Inexpensive. Archive all messages before a certain date? Click the Date header, scroll to preferred date, Shift key, End (or Home), drag-n-drop. Reading the messages from a CD is easy enough after that... double-click on the message in the CD folder. No read-only issues as in PSTs. No need to restore. What could be easier? Did you look at the queues on the Exchange 5.5 server, and see if the mail is sat in a queue? Does the connector have some sort of schedule associated to it? RE: Messages not arriving from particular addresses
Unfortunately 34 is, indeed, Exchange. Plus, if server 35 (the mailbox server) was bouncing the messages (for whatever reason), I should see the fact that it was bouncing it. But there is nothing, nada, like a void reaches out and swallows up this guy's messages somewhere between Exchange Server 34 and Exchange Server 35 (both 2000 and both at SP2). An even more fun aspect is that if [EMAIL PROTECTED] sends to my Yahoo.com address, it arrives with no problems at all. Bob also tells me that he is sending to other businesses with no problem. RE: Messages not arriving from particular addresses
This sounds like Bob has messed up his reply address. His mailbox is sending out a MAIL FROM address (the address to which NDR's are sent) which a. Has bad syntax RFC-wise b. Due to (a) attempts to return the message undeliverable fail. Now why do you see the message pass from from server 34 (front-end) to 35 (Exchange) if the RFC syntax is bad? Well server 34 probably doesn't check for RFC compliance as strictly as Exchange, and passes the message along. Server 35 rejects it but of course server 34 can't get the NDR back to Bob. I am of course assuming that server 34 is not Exchange. HTH. Carl -Original Message- From: Mike Rausch [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, May 21, 2002 11:57 AM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: Messages not arriving from particular addresses I did a search and did not find anything on this, so I apologize if this has been asked before. Pertinent information: Exchange 2000 SP2 2 servers involved. A front-end server we will call 34, and a mailbox server we'll call 35 We have 2 users experiencing the same issue. They do not recieve emails from a specific email address. 1 user, we'll call Jim, does not recieve any mail sent from Bob (Bob is outside the company). We'll say bob's email address is [EMAIL PROTECTED] Jim recieves email with no problem from 2 of Bob's coworkers ([EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED]). Bob does not recieve a NDR. I have Bob send a couple of test messages to myself and another user, we receive nothing as well. So in an effort to track down where these messages are disappearing I do a message track. I track all messages that come from Bob's address, and are sent to Jim in the last 12 hours. About 5 messages appear. I go ahead and double-click one to get the details. It shows the message arriving at server 34, getting processed, and then handed off to server 35. But when I switch to track it on server 35 it has no record of it. I do a search on the specific message ID and again, server 35 has no info on it. Nothing in the Event Logs of either server. No NDR created. Nothing. Queues on both servers are completely empty. Messages not arriving from particular addresses
I did a search and did not find anything on this, so I apologize if this has been asked before. It's like they are disappearing in a black hole. Has anybody seen anything like this before? Anybody have any ideas on what else I can do to try and track this down? It's bizarre. Associating Exch2K mailboxes with NT4.0 accounts
Hi. We have Exhange 2000 SP2, with no Exch5.5. We have 2 domains, one Exch2K domain, and one NT 4.0 domain which trusts the Exch2K domain. For legal reasons the Win2K domain cannot trust the NT4.0 domain. We want to have Exch2K mailboxes accessible by users in the NT4.0 domain. Is there a way to associate a mailbox in the Exch2K organization with a userID in the NT4.0 domain? The only way we can make it work is to introduce an Exch5.5 server into the Exch2K org, create an Exch5.5 mailbox (linked to an account in the NT4.0 domain) and let the ADC replicate the mailbox to the Exch2K organization. We're trying to find a way to make this work without having an Exchange 5.5 server in the environment. thanks, Scott Y List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm
