Have you called Radio Shack /Tandy Electronics? They used to
have an environmental sensor system that included temp/humidity/fire and
standing water.

All,

I'm look for a water sensor that I can place on the floor next to the
walls on my data center and in other strategic locations in our
facilities. I originally thought of net botz/APC, however, those
devices are overkill for my needs. All I'm looking for is a device that
can attach to my network wired or wirelessly and send an email/SMS
message if it detects moisture. Anybody have experience with such an
animal?

Wireless connectivity and Direct Push

2008-03-04 Thread Matteson, John H Jr USA Mr USA 25th SigBN (ITT)
Oh Guru's of Exchange 2007, a humble student comes with a question.

I'm reading through the Exchange 2007 documents about Exchange
Active Sync, wireless connectivity and Direct Push.

I'm reading through a paragraph that tells me that Exchange
Active Sync's Direct Push will not work over a Wi-Fi like connection
(Starbucks or the local yuppie bookstore), but then in the next
paragraph the document is defining that "Exchange Active Sync is a
protocol that enables mobile access, over the air, to e-mail messages,
scheduling data, contacts, and tasks."

Now, are we talking about cell service type wireless
connectivity, i.e. the web browser that's on the cell phone? My only
experience with PDA's has been with an old Dell X3 that had a Wi-Fi
connection sticking out of the top and no cell service.

RE: Wireless connectivity and Direct Push

2008-03-04 Thread Simon Butler
DirectPush, as in the device sitting there and telling you that it has a
message as it arrives, only works over a mobile phone data connection. If your
connection is over wireless, then you can still sync, but only on a schedule,
not as items arrive.

So if you went in to Starbucks with a wifi enabled device which connected to
their wireless and you had Exchange configured for Exchange ActiveSync, you
could then start up ActiveSync on the device and choose sync.

Questions regarding SBS2003 POP 3 connector.

2008-03-04 Thread Graeme Carstairs
I have just been to visit someone, who having fallen for the hype purchased
a DELL Server with SBS 2003 R2 preinstalled and thought they could go about
setting it up themselves using the wizzards etc.

I was called in today to try and fix the issues that they have created.

All in all they have done a not too bad a job, but maid a bit of a boo boo
with the e-mail setup.

They currently have pop 3 of the following format [EMAIL PROTECTED], but are
planning to move to an smtp feed with their own domain, i.e.
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

They ran the Internet wizard and setup the Exchange domain as domain.co.uk,
with the AD domain as domain.local all well and good i hear you say.

But of course when they configured the POP connector, it appears to
initially have just vanished any incoming mail into thin air, and since
yesterday after installing Exchange 2003 SP2, it now reposrts in the event
viewer that any mail retrieved by the pop connector was not delivered to the
mail box due to relay restrictions.

Added domain.co.uk to the recipient policy and mail is working fine.

The question of course is where did the mail that vanished go???

I am not familiar with the process of the pop3 connector, mainly with how it
handles the mail flow.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Graeme

Yeah, looks like that's it. All our existing security groups are
global, not universal, and not mail enabled.

Yes, you can replicate your permissions to all subfolders. Also, since
you have a large number of new people to add I would recommend creating
a group then use that group to grant the permission to the Public
Folders. That way when people come or go you don't have to edit the
permissions on the PF tree so often.

I have a request to add a couple of new people to a huge list of
existing public folders with a fairly deep hierarchy, so they can
add/modify/delete messages in them. I found an article explaining that
you can do this in ESM, via All Tasks on the parent folder > Manage
Settings > Modify client permissions, then perhaps choosing "Add users".

Has anyone done this on an E2K3 server? Does it work? Is it
safe?

Certainly I would try it out on a test folder tree before using
it on the live folders full of valuable messages, but I'd like some
feedback before even trying it out.

If there's a better / safer way, I'm all ears.

Grateful for any suggestions.

Re: Questions regarding SBS2003 POP 3 connector.

2008-03-04 Thread Joe Fox
Graeme:

You're in luck - I just finished setting up my POP3 connector this morning.
Is the POP3 connector set up for Global Mailbox? If it isn't you need to
set it up for Global Mailbox and make sure that you have Exchange Mailboxes
for all the users.

Example - I have a mailbox called [EMAIL PROTECTED] at my mail host.
All "undeliverable" mail goes to that account. Then the POP3 connnector
connects to that drop box, pulls in all the mail, and then looks at the To:
and CC: fields to put it in the appropriate mailboxes on the SBS server.

My problem with it not working, is that I spelled the POP3 account name
wrong! DOH!

On a similiar note - does anyone know if there is a way to change the POP3
Connector's schedule. As it stands, the shortest time between checks is 15
minutes, and I'd like to get it down to 5 minutes between checks. Can that
be changed in the registry maybe?

HTH.

Oggetto: Questions regarding SBS2003 POP 3 connector.

I have just been to visit someone, who having fallen for the hype purchased a
DELL Server with SBS 2003 R2 preinstalled and thought they could go about
setting it up themselves using the wizzards etc.

I was called in today to try and fix the issues that they have created.

All in all they have done a not too bad a job, but maid a bit of a boo boo with
the e-mail setup.

But of course when they configured the POP connector, it appears to initially
have just vanished any incoming mail into thin air, and since yesterday after
installing Exchange 2003 SP2, it now reposrts in the event viewer that any mail
retrieved by the pop connector was not delivered to the mail box due to relay
restrictions.

Added domain.co.uk to the recipient policy and mail is working fine.

The question of course is where did the mail that vanished go???

I am not familiar with the process of the pop3 connector, mainly with how it
handles the mail flow.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Graeme

RE: Questions regarding SBS2003 POP 3 connector.

2008-03-04 Thread gsweers
The official answer about the 15 mins on the pop3 is no. Here is a link
to bypass it.

The main reason to leave it at 15 minutes is to allow the server to
download all the mail before it tries again to process downloading mail.
If you have a high level of mail flow you may not want to lower it. If
its just a few and not large attachments then you could do this.

Graeme:

You're in luck - I just finished setting up my POP3 connector this
morning. Is the POP3 connector set up for Global Mailbox? If it isn't
you need to set it up for Global Mailbox and make sure that you have
Exchange Mailboxes for all the users.

Example - I have a mailbox called [EMAIL PROTECTED] at my mail
host. All "undeliverable" mail goes to that account. Then the POP3
connnector connects to that drop box, pulls in all the mail, and then
looks at the To: and CC: fields to put it in the appropriate mailboxes
on the SBS server.

My problem with it not working, is that I spelled the POP3 account name
wrong! DOH!

On a similiar note - does anyone know if there is a way to change the
POP3 Connector's schedule. As it stands, the shortest time between
checks is 15 minutes, and I'd like to get it down to 5 minutes between
checks. Can that be changed in the registry maybe?

HTH.

Re: R: Questions regarding SBS2003 POP 3 connector.

2008-03-04 Thread Graeme Carstairs
They originally had [EMAIL PROTECTED] on each individual user account, and the
pop connector configured with 3 user accounts each one assigned to an
Exchange user.

Which I have left.

After Exchange SP2 was applied then the logs showed that mail was being
downloaded and supposedly passed to the user account then the next event log
showed that the mail wass rejected due to relaying restrictions.

I added popbox.com to the recipient policy and now mail is coming in fine
and going to the users mailboxes.

But the server must have downloaded mail from thursday all over the weekend,
till today, as the users pop boxes at the isp were empty, so my question is
where does this mail go?
Is it just vanished and no way of retrieving it??

Thanks

Hosted email service suggestions

2008-03-04 Thread Peter Sam
My wife works for a non-profit charter (public) school in North Carolina and
her management is interested in a hosted email service solution with atleast
these features. Anyone have suggestions on this?

Must be Inexpensive or free

Hosted Email service for around 200 to 250 teachers/staff

must have - Need common distribution lists / shared email addresses and ability
to add "external email addresses in DLs".

Must have some migration tools

Domain name must be "changeable"

Did I mention inexpensive?

Other nice to haves - Shared portal/s as part of offering, mobile support, etc
I did research Google apps/mail/ education version (con- no DLs -
http://www.google.com/a/help/intl/en/admins/new.html) and AQUEST hosting (not
sure if they have the DL option).

I think there is no way
I use third party pop connector (popbeamer) and is more flexible . You may
leave mail on the pop server how long you want(according to the space dedicated
by the ISP)
