Send As .... am I going insane?

2008-05-01 Thread Stuart Pittwood
Hi all,

It's been some time since I've done any exchange admin, so it could well be
that dementia has started to set in ..

I'm sure that in Exchange 2003 there was a 'send as' permission on the
mailbox permissions. Am I going mad or have MS changed something on me?

If they've taken this away, how do I achieve the same effect?

It's Exchange 2003, SP2 in a Windows 2003 domain.

Thanks

Stu

RE: Send As .... am I going insane?

2008-05-01 Thread Simon Butler
Send As is on the Security tab. If you can't see the security tab, close the
user you are viewing, then choose View, Advanced features. Then open the
properties of the user.

Before an update that was post SP2, granting a user Full Mailbox Access also
granted them Send As permissions, which might be what you are thinking of. That
is no longer the case.

Simon.

As Don stated, using box stock Outlook 2003 here.

Everything was fine until the last time the list went offline.

Besides, I wouldn't try to fool THIS LIST. Too many Guru's in here to

RE: HELP ON OUTLOOK ISSUE

2008-05-01 Thread Murray Freeman
Thanks for all the replies on this issue. I've checked out most of the
suggestions, and I suspect that my next step is to run the Detect and
Repair module to see if that fixes the problem. I've never run that
module, so will it change the current settings of the individual
profile? Is there anything I should do to save any profile settings?

If you forward the blank email from your problem user to you, can you
read it? I had that same problem with a couple of people and after
taking a closer look it really wasn't blank but a very faint yellow that
you could hardly see. Look in Outlook, tools\options\mail format. Then
check the stationary and fonts to see if the reply font color is set to
yellow.

I thought I sent this request for help last week, but perhaps it slipped
my mind and I forgot to click Send. So, since I didn't receive a
single response, perhaps just one more time. I have researched this and
found nothing helpful using google, so I hope someone here can lead me
in the right direction. I'm tempted to just run a Detect and Repair or
a complete uninstall reinstall, but hopefully these may be a better
solution. So here goes:

We are using Exchange Server 2003 along with Outlook 2003 and OWA. I
have one user who is having a problem with just one individual that she
corresponds with on a regular basis. It seems that when she gets a REPLY
(not an original email) from that one individual, it's always blank.
Same thing if we open the reply in Outlook Web Access. Yet, if the
individual responds to other members of our staff, the reply comes thru
just fine. My user is using HTML. We also tried using cc, and when I was
cc'd , the reply to me was also blank. Any ideas would be greatly
appreciated

BES connection

2008-05-01 Thread Matt Moore
Hi gang,

New job and the third day it all took a E2K on W2K with a side of

All 2K servers had over 50 updates. After updating Exch to sp3 w hotfixes
and and updating the SM on the BES box, BES wouldn't talk to Exch. When I
tried to open the BES Mgr the error was can't connect to the DB. Rather
deceiving error. It's a mapi error. Following some of the RIM KB's and
reading on the forums I was able to get the BES mgr started but there's
still no mail flow from Exchange. I've granted the BB mailbox account every
perm in the world. I'm on the list at RIM for help, min 24 hour wait.
T-Mobile is no help. I've read, after the fact that SP2 breaks the BES so I
had to do it good. Any words of wisdom for a guy that hasn't touched a BB

RE: Outlook 2007 categories

2008-05-01 Thread Michael B. Smith
Ugh. I made the (improper) assumption that since you were running Outlook
2007 you were attached to an Exchange 2007 backend. EWS is Exchange 2007
only.

Without that, you are going to have to use MAPI; and that's not
script-friendly. It's conceivably possible that this is possible with WebDAV
(which is what EWS replaced in Exchange 2007), but I don't know enough about
WebDAV to say that with any surety.

Hi gang,
New job and the third day it all took a E2K on W2K with a side of
BES4.0. All hanging by a thread. DC started crashing yesterday (PIII white
box). I was hoping for the weekend to do updates but my hand was forced. All
2K servers had over 50 updates. After updating Exch to sp3 w hotfixes and and
updating the SM on the BES box, BES wouldn't talk to Exch. When I tried to
open the BES Mgr the error was can't connect to the DB. Rather deceiving
error. It's a mapi error. Following some of the RIM KB's and reading on the
forums I was able to get the BES mgr started but there's still no mail flow
from Exchange. I've granted the BB mailbox account every perm in the world.
I'm on the list at RIM for help, min 24 hour wait. T-Mobile is no help. I've
read, after the fact that SP2 breaks the BES so I had to do it good. Any words
of wisdom for a guy that hasn't touched a BB in about 5 years I feel like
I've just been RIMed.. Andy steps in Don? You've got BB's don't you?
I've got over 100 sales guy's starting to shake from withdrawals.

Sounds like User A has been setup as a delegate on User B's mailbox. If
User A was configured to receive meeting invites for User B, then yes.
However, you said email, so is there is an additional setting/rule
configured elsewhere to forward/redirect messages sent to User B over to

ActiveSync

2008-05-01 Thread Brian Rudnicke
Hello all.

I have a user who uses a Treo to sync his contacts with Outlook 2003. He is
using Microsoft ActiveSync. Since he started doing this, he repeatedly opens
too many connections to the Exchange server, and then calls to yell at me when
he cannot connect to the Exchange server with Outlook because he is over his
connection limit. The only way to drop the connections is to restart the
System Attendand (which also restarts the IS).

Is there a way I can set his client to only Sync on demand? Is there a
different fix for this issue?

Exchange 2003 SP2.

Perhaps not the specific delegate permissions, but you CAN give someone Send

Change the authentication type to NTLM/Integrated on the virtual
directory and run IIS reset, then change the authentication setting in
Outlook to NTLM. That will stop the prompts for machines that are domain
members.

If you have to support both on and off domain clients, then enable basic
authentication as well on the virtual directory and set NTLM on domain
clients and basic on non-domain clients.

a SBS 2003 running Exchange 2003 and AD.

I've tested it and it works for the AD part, the old

However, when I go to test it in OWA, both, the old
and the new password work. I have tried with IE and

browswer and I start testing the old password first
for avoiding caching issues.

Also I log on the windows domain with a different

Did you fix the Send As permissioning? There are
several white papers on this from both RIM and
 Microsoft. Here's one from Microsoft:

here's a link to the microsoft exchange blog also:

 Subject: BES connection

 Hi gang,

New job and the third day it all took a
 E2K on W2K with a
side of BES4.0. All hanging by a thread. DC
 started crashing yesterday
(PIII white box). I was hoping for the weekend to
 do updates but my
hand was forced. All 2K servers had over 50
 updates. After updating
Exch to sp3 w hotfixes and and updating the SM on
 the BES box, BES
wouldn't talk to Exch. When I tried to open the BES
 Mgr the error was
can't connect to the DB. Rather deceiving error.
 It's a mapi error.
Following some of the RIM KB's and reading on the
 forums I was able to
get the BES mgr started but there's still no mail
 flow from Exchange.
I've granted the BB mailbox account every perm in
 the world. I'm on the
list at RIM for help, min 24 hour wait. T-Mobile is
 no help. I've read,
after the fact that SP2 breaks the BES so I had to
 do it good. Any
words of wisdom for a guy that hasn't touched a BB
 in about 5 years
I feel like I've just been RIMed.. Andy steps
 in Don? You've
 got BB's don't you? I've got over 100 sales guy's
 starting to shake
 from withdrawals.

 TIA,

 Matt

RE: calendar details not showing for conference rooms

2008-05-01 Thread Cicerrella, Steve
Hi Glenn,

I read somewhere, maybe from that same site, that your users will need
author privileges for the conference room calendar. That will allow
them to create calendar items and to view others. They should not need
full access. Our users have Outlook 2003 and have author only rights to
the conf room calendars. As long as they book the rooms as a resource
it works for them.

Thanks Steve,

Forgot to mention outlook 2007 is being used as well - not sure if that
makes a difference. The only way I was able to get the user(s) to see
the details (who's got it booked) for said conference room was to give
them FullAccess to the mailbox. I don't want to do that, but if
that's the only way.

Hi Glenn,

Not entirely sure of your particulars but I just encountered a similar
problem. The conf rooms are set to auto book meetings in the calendar
but the meetings were not showing up in the calendar. Many people just
invite the room as a required or optional attendee. Unless the inviter
adds the room as a resource it will not be reflected in the calendar of
that conf room.

From this page on outlook direct booking...
http://www.slipstick.com/calendar/skedresource.asp

The clients must book all appointments with a specific Outlook
technique: On the Attendee Availability tab of a meeting request, click
Invite Others to add one or more resources to the Resources box. Make
sure you add them as resources. If you add them as required or optional
attendees, the resources will not be automatically booked.

Hope that helps.

Exchange 2007 SP1

Hi All,

Conference rooms were created using the EMC, and the AutoAccept flag was
pushed using the EMS. When a user tries to book a conference room, they
cannot see the calendar details to see who's occupying the room. I can,
but I have adminrights to the conference rooms. I'm looking at the
flags with the set-mailboxcalendarsettings cmdlet, but can't seem to
find any that would allow me to show details. The removeprivateproperty
flag looks promising but it's already set to true. Can this be done.

I don't recall in e2k3 I needed to do anything special but that was a
while back.

Glenn

She NEVER gets them in Outlook, or it arrives a few seconds to minute
later? My BB gets email before my Outlook (cached mode) all the time.
Same for my users. But it does show up.

Are you using BES? If the email never shows up, what is probably
happening is you are downloading the email to the Blackberry by POP and
it is pulling the email out of the inbox. You need to setup BES or use
BIS for the email connectivity on the BB.

All good ideas - forgot that I have several non-BES mail accounts
configured on my BB - the messages app combines them all but of course
only the BES mail gets to Outlook (later as in cached mode).
