Yeah, although I was told by a RIM rep that they were dumping BPS, but renewing
the SMB pricing under the next version, similar to what BES had prior to
releasing BPS. We have dozens of clients on BPS currently, I really hope they
have something for the SMB space that equals what they did with BPS but with
regular updates.. :)

Its pretty lame since BES has had HTML email since early last year.

Re: Blackberry Professional Software

2009-05-04 Thread Jonathan Link
Hopefully that will include a courtesy upgrade to BES 5.
I'd proposed a BES server in my budget for this year, since we have 4 of the
7 partners with crackberries. WE did choose to go with BES rather than BPS,
because of the lack of updates. When I found out that they were discontiung
BPS I was relieved that the partners took my recommendation.
I do hope that RIM does make some adjustments to BES 5 form the SMB space to
make it price comparable to BPS, but if they don't, I am still prepared.

E2k7: User rename question

2009-05-04 Thread Louis, Joe
So, I have user that was recently married. We renamed her account in ADUC. We
added the new smtp using EMS and also changed the alias. Things have been
great until she reported that her Blackberry has stopped receiving emails. Doh.
We forgot to change her name there as it was pointing to the old name.

Here is my question, realizing the limitations of ADUC, am I just creating
problems for myself by using that for renaming accounts? If it wasn't for a BB
user, we wouldn't have noticed that the CN didn't change on the rename
operation.

I've been running it in production with Geo dispersed CCR clusters for almost 7

web services, but that was resolved pretty quickly. Outside of that, no
glaring issues experienced here.

RE: E2k7: User rename question

2009-05-04 Thread Louis, Joe
We change the user name to keep everything in line.

I questioned it because of the LegacyExchangeDN value is the previous user
name, and I wasn't sure that if that should have changed when we renamed the
account. It looks like that should stay as is {{{smacks his forehead...hence
the legacy}}}.

I don't recommend that. The user ID is used as unique constant
identifier by far too many things, both Microsoft and third-party. I
change display names. I add a new email address, set the new email
address to primary, but keep the old email address around. But the
user ID is carved in stone for the life of the account. Don't think
of the user ID as a human name, but rather, a machine identifier that
just uses a human-friendly mnemonic for convenience.

If it bothers you that much, don't base user IDs on the person's
name, but instead on the employee ID number or some such. Same
principle. :)

Exchange DB Portability

2009-05-04 Thread Joseph L. Casale
I had a lab setup with an E2k10 DB that had some data in it. I setup a new lab,
same topology, different server names, used a cmdlet to create the Mailbox
Database with the recovery switch specifying the pre-existing paths to the
copied db (everything was copied over). It warned me that it needed to be in a
clean shutdown state before mounting, so I checked it with eseutil /mh and it
was. I mounted it without error but I couldn't enumerate the disconnected MB's
in it? How does one accomplish this?

Thanks!
