I managed by looking through Outlook and found there is an export/import
option on the window where you edit the rules, that sufficed for the task.

Anyone know if it's possible to query the tracking logs for a given user within
a given time frame via powershell?

Basically we need to export the email activities of a user and the log tracking
tool in Exchange 2010 isn't great on export features.

Exchange 2007 logs

2011-01-13 Thread Jeff Poling
We are having issues with our backup solution currently. For exchange, that
means a database backup is not occurring properly and log files are not being
deleted. I am watching the disk space closely, but if the problem continues
much longer I am going to be extremely close to running out of disk space for
the logs. What is the best option in this case?

I could:

1. Add disk space (it is a virtual machine so that process would be
seamless and easy, but I would not be able to reclaim the space once the crisis
is over)

2. Enable circular logging

3. Something else?

Any insight is greatly appreciated

Thanks!

RE: Exchange 2007 logs

2011-01-13 Thread Jeff Poling
We are using Commvault Simpana 8. Exchange is backed up full on the weekend
and incremental during the week. The incrementals are failing (although
commvault shows they are succeeding). The error is:

The Exchange server returned the following error message: [0xc8000232] - [Some
log or patch files are missing.].

Overall we had some issues with a VTL that caused grief for all of our backups
early in the week. I am trying t9o find out from our backup admin what exactly
happened and where things are at.

The one thing I did this morning was kick off a full backup of the Exchange
database. I am hoping the full will complete and there was just some issue
with the incrementals due to the VTL issues.

RE: Exchange 2007 logs

2011-01-13 Thread Sobey, Richard A
I’ve got a feeling your full will fail, but let’s hope not.

If it still fails, the steps I’d take would be to dismount the databases (on
your own time, don’t wait for the disk space to run out!) and move – do NOT
delete them in case you need them later - the transaction logs to a temporary
location. Mount the database again which will create a new set of logs. Then
capture a full backup immediately.

We are using Commvault Simpana 8. Exchange is backed up full on the weekend

commvault shows they are succeeding). The error is:

The Exchange server returned the following error message: [0xc8000232] - [Some
log or patch files are missing.].

Overall we had some issues with a VTL that caused grief for all of our backups
early in the week. I am trying t9o find out from our backup admin what exactly

The one thing I did this morning was kick off a full backup of the Exchange

Single or Multiple SMTP Connectors?

2011-01-13 Thread Sean Martin
Exchange 2003 SP2

I had a small issue with one of my Barracuda Virus Firewalls this morning
that got me thinking about my current configuration. I currently have a
single SMTP connector configured with multiple smarthosts. I was wondering
if it would be preferable to configurable multiple SMTP connectors of equal
cost, each with a unique smarthost? The only benefit I can think of is being
able to immediately identify which smarthost may be having problems
accepting mail.

Thoughts?

Spam reports

2011-01-13 Thread Steve Hart
I'm setting up Spam Titan to email a daily quarantine report to my users. The
report lists the subject lines of each quarantined email, which of course,
makes these reports very spam-like.

I've set up a transport rule based on the subject line of the emails, to set
the spam confidence level to 0. That stops these emails from being filtered by
Exchange.

Is there anything I can do on the Exchange side to prevent Outlook from
filtering these as junk email?

Re: Single or Multiple SMTP Connectors?

2011-01-13 Thread Sean Martin
I think I may have found the answer to my question...

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997032(EXCHG.65).aspx

Load Balance with Multiple Bridgehead Servers
When you have a single connector that is hosted by multiple bridgehead
servers, the servers using the connector randomly select the bridgehead
server that they use, thereby load balancing requests across the bridgehead
servers. *The situation is different if you have multiple connectors with
the same address space, each with a single bridgehead server. The servers
that use these connectors use a method based on the server GUID to determine
which of the available connectors they will use. The algorithm may not
evenly distribute the server selections across the available connectors. So,
to achieve load balancing, it is recommended that you use a single connector
sourced to multiple bridgehead servers.

( you need to dismount IS and mount it back for CL to be on and off), this will
give you plenty of time to troubleshoot the backup issues and find out what

Backup issue in Exchange 2007

2011-01-13 Thread Leedy, Andy
It appears that the VSS file is changing or something, so that the backup is
not able to verify. I believe the Backup is ok, but it would be nice to
verify. Does anyone have any ideas how to resolve the issue? Do I need to
increase the VSS max limit?

We are using Backup Exec 12.5 I believe.

Backup log contains this warning:
WARNING: \\TBCMAIL\Microsoft Information Store\Associates MBX Storage
Group\Associates MBX Store is a corrupt file. This file cannot verify. Backup
completed on 1/13/2011 at 12:21:47 AM.

.
Completed status: Failed

Final error: 0xe000fedf - A failure occurred reading an object.

Final error category: Resource Errors
For additional information regarding this error refer to link
http://eventlookup.veritas.com/eventlookup/EventLookup.jhtml?EvtID=V-79-57344-65247

The event log contains this error:
EventID 36 - The shadow copies of volume D: were aborted because the shadow
copy storage could not grow due to a user imposed limit. We are using the
latest Backup Exec. Volume D contains the databases. The largest is around 120
GB. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Andy

RE: Backup issue in Exchange 2007

2011-01-13 Thread Michael B. Smith
You should REMOVE the VSS max limit and allow VSS to police itself.

That being said - my advice is appropriate if only Exchange is on that volume.
If other things are installed, then all bets are off. :-P

co-existence of Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2010 with Forefront TMG

2011-01-13 Thread Stuart Brainerd
Can anyone in this group shed some light on how seamlessly Forefront TMG or
ISA Server 2006 can handle client access (OWA, Outlook Anywhere and
ActiveSync) when you have both Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2010 CAS?

I am looking for some guidance on the best migration strategy in this
scenario.
