RE: Whitespace Questions

2011-11-21 Thread Missy Koslosky
The 75GB limit is only for .edb files (not .stm), and does not take white space
into account. You have less than 5 GB of space left.

The good news is that Exchange will use the white space for new data before it
physically grows the .edb. So you should be safe for a while.

Hello,

I have a customer that has Exchange 2003 SP2 Standard Edition. Their edb file
is 70.7GB and the STM file is 19.1GB. The amount of whitespace that is being
reported by Event ID1221 is saying there is 17.2GB of whitespace in the
database. If I understand this correctly, you add the size of the edb file and
stm file and subtract the whitespace and that gives you the actual size of the
DB since whitespace is being taken into consideration. Just making sure this is
the case since this is Exchange 2003 Standard Edition SP2 and they are subject
to the 75GB limit.

Sorry Missy, you are wrong on both counts.
The database limit is the total of both files and does count the whitespace as

A bit OT - ActiveSync and WinPhone 7.5

2011-11-21 Thread Sobey, Richard A
Hiya all,

Sorry this is slightly off-topic but it's to do with ActiveSync, so not
altogether out there :)

I've got a new Windows Phone 7.5 handset and configured an Exchange account.
I'm surprised by the seeming lack of ability to synchronise text messages OTA
with ActiveSync. I only get options to sync email, contacts, calendar and
tasks. Since you could do this with Windows Mobile 6.5, I'm shocked you can't
do it in Windows Phone.

Can anyone else verify my findings?

Cheers,

Richard

I believe I've fixed the problem. I had to set up weakhostreceive and

Blocked email issue Exch 2003

2011-11-21 Thread ExchList
Hope someone can help - I'm lost on this one.

Exchange 2003 (patched)

My client has been exchanging emails with his client within issue. But this one
email (with attachments) gets as far as SMTP: Advanced Queue Failed to Deliver
Message. Then I had him forward it to my personal email - no problem. Then I
forwarded it to my client - Blocked again.
I deleted the attachments > forwarded to my client and blocked again. I then
forwarded the message to my client (with attachments) but WITHOUT the body
content and it was received successfully.

What could be in the Body of the email that could cause this?
Is there a place that I can look to find out exactly WHY exchange
rejected/deleted this email.

FYI: IMF is turned OFF.

Thanks in advance!

RE: Blocked email issue Exch 2003

2011-11-21 Thread ExchList
You are correct. I just found it.

Having GFI Security/Essentials installed and running and having the sender
domain White Listed - I figured that "only if the email got past the GFI event
sinks would I see the email in the Exchange tracking logs. And since I did see
the email in the tracking logs and not in a GFI Quarantine I acquitted GFI as
being an accomplice to the problem.

Summary:
GFI MailSecurity had a Rule to delete any email which contained the word Pfizer
in Subject or Body. (I forgot about that rule since it was set so long ago).

Thank again.

Re: Second NIC wanting to connect to public domain

2011-11-21 Thread Sean Martin
Not completely relevant to the problem you originally requested
assistance with, but I recently read some documentation regarding
managing static routes in Windows 2008 and newer. You're supposed to
use the netsh command rather than the 'route' command as in previous
versions of Windows. Just wanted to throw that out there in case you
weren't aware. The problems discussed with using the route command
included static routes dissappearing.

Split DAG

2011-11-21 Thread David Liu
hi,
has anyone seen this before?

Exchange 2010 SP1 RU5.
5 member DAG, 2 mb server in the primary datacenter (nyc1xmb001), 2 in DR
site (stm1xmb001) and one last one in Primary DC blocked from activation
for backup.

I ran the following to gauge which users are on a particular mailbox
database,

[PS] D:\Install\PowerShellScripts>get-mailboxdatabase NYC1XMB001_L_to_M |
get-mailbox

Name AliasServerName
ProhibitSendQuota
  ---
-
Minze, p pminze nyc1xmb001 463.9 MB
(486,400,000 bytes)
Monica, t tmonica nyc1xmb001 unlimited
Locklear, Aalocklearstm1xmb001 unlimited
Lipsky, E elipsky stm1xmb001 unlimited

All users on nyc1xmb001_l_to_m should be hosted in the stm1xmb001 server
and yet both the GUI/commandline suggest that some mailboxes are living on
one in Primary DC and some on secondary Datacenter.

How is this possible?

I don't even know how this is possible if db is mounted on one server and

RE: Split DAG

2011-11-21 Thread Campbell, Rob
For any given mailbox, the homeMTA property of the user object in AD should
point to where the active copy is.

For the users in question, is that set the same on all of your DCs?

In Exchange 2007 you used to have to update this property manually if you
failed over to a replicated server. In 2010, I believe the CAS servers are
supposed to take care of this automatically.
