Joseph,

Thanks for testing this, but it only shows that you can have 2 different CAS
servers for 2 different databases on one Exchange server.

So your setup is testing just one site, in fact just one server. My question is
about accessing a DAG -- which spans 2 sites -- from CAS servers on two
different sites at the same time. Can that be done? Thanks.

I expect I'm being premature. It's now using 12+GB of memory.. I'll give it

Subject: Can more memory mean less memory?

Dear all,

Our virtual CAS server was using 14.6GB of memory (reported in task manager,
out of a total of 16GB). We wanted to see what, if any, effects would have on
the performance if we doubled its memory to 32GB. The only thing that changed
is that the server now seems to be using /less/ memory overall. Task manager
currently says less than 10GB of memory is in use. All three other CAS are
running at almost 14.6GB memory still.

The server is running Exchange 2010 SP1 on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64. The
MSExchange RpcClientAccess\User Count performance counter was exceeding 1300,
and more than the physical servers were reporting.

I'm really intrigued by this behaviour. Can anyone shed any light on it?

Richard
PS One thing I haven't done is increased the pagefile size to match the new
memory. It's still 17GB.

You can only have one RPCClientAccessServer on a database. That can be a single
CAS, or multiple CASes referenced by the name of a CAS Array.

RE: DAG and CAS-Array (or CAS server)

2012-03-08 Thread Steve Goodman
Yes that is fine. The CAS or CAS array is specified at a Database level, not a
DAG level. You could have 2 CAS arrays access 1 DAG that spans multiple sites.
You could have 1 CAS server for each database if you wanted to.. You could have
lots of DAGs and one CAS array.

2010 OWA Change Password

It seems 2010 OWA is picking up the default domain policy on passwords rather

I just turn all of that off with the below does that also kill the expiring

Domain was, Forest was not but it is now. It was just OWA that was popping the
users that it was going to expire yesterday. But when they log in today
directly to a desktop it is not expired, nor should it be. This hit this batch
of users as soon as I moved their mailbox off 07 to 10. However, PW changing on

Hi all,

Exchange 2007 server being decommissioned as all users move to new Exchange
2010 server.

Only database left on it is the Public Folders.

Ran the MoveAllReplicas.ps1 script and most folders have now moved over.

When I run Get-PublicFolderStatistics on the '07 server two folders remain.

They have been there for 4 days now and the item count is staying static.

As this server has no one on is there anyway of killing the EDB without
affecting the other replica? Thinking dismount and then ADSI edit..?

2012-03-08 Thread Michael B. Smith
I don't care how much Microsoft documentation recommends it, I have never had
anything but trouble with MoveAllReplicas.

I recommend using AddReplicaToPFRecursive, waiting until the replicas have
sync'ed, and then use RemoveReplicaFromPFRecursive.

There have been one or two times when I've HAD to remove the PF store manually.
But they are few and far between. And it isn't one of those things that I tell
people how to do. And most of the blogs out there that pretend to, forget at
least one or two steps.

RE: Exchange 2010 migration, removing old public folders

2012-03-08 Thread Michael B. Smith
They can be another kettle of fish.

Compared to Exchange 2010, Exchange 2003 was stupid. It allowed invalid values.
This can cause PF replication to fail and on the Exchange 2010 message for PF
repl messages to end up as poison message. So... you may have to turn off
poison message detection on the 2010 side.

Yes, I'd still avoid MoveAllReplicas. But for everything else - I'd do the
management on the 2003 side.

Does the below also apply to getting rid of 2003 replicas after migrating to
2010?

Thx in advance

I don't care how much Microsoft documentation recommends it, I have never had
anything but trouble with MoveAllReplicas.

I recommend using AddReplicaToPFRecursive, waiting until the replicas have
sync'ed, and then use RemoveReplicaFromPFRecursive.

There have been one or two times when I've HAD to remove the PF store manually.
But they are few and far between. And it isn't one of those things that I tell
people how to do. And most of the blogs out there that pretend to, forget at
least one or two steps.

I am faced with a similar issue and found the below. However I am not ready to
go there. I am going to continue looking at it. My issue is a bit different
though, Mine have replicated and only the 2007 server thinks it has a
replication for it. No 2010 server thinks that.

RE: BB's keep hard deleting Outlook Contacts

2012-03-08 Thread Maglinger, Paul
Michael,

A while back you posted on your blog how to install SP2 for Exchange 2010.
With the addition of UR1, how does that fall into the procedure?

Are you certain that you are running the most recent release of BES? And I'd
recommend an update to 2010 SP2 UR1.

Hello-

Has anyone else seen this happen and know what we may look at?

RE: BB's keep hard deleting Outlook Contacts

2012-03-08 Thread Michael B. Smith
Put the update here, replacing the setup.com or setup.exe.

Finally, apply the service pack.
From a cmd.exe prompt:
setup.com /m:upgrade
From setup.exe, simply double-click the setup.exe executable and follow the
bouncing ball.
Next, I recommend a reboot of the server. Just because I'm old school.
