Chances are his mailbox went over the size limit before he tried to send the 
photo.

Regardless, either up his mailbox limit or have him clean up. I wouldn't worry 
about what events happened when, that's just a waste of time at this point.

using up his data allowance or would the exchange server not allow anything to 
be sent as far as the server?

Cut along story short, we need to know if the email could of caused the large 
data usage when the mailbox was denying send due to him hitting his limit. Any 
experiences?

It is more about knowing that the Exchange/Ipad is capable of causing this, 
Ipad will send the full 7.5meg email up to the exchange before it gets rejected.

We have to dismiss to be sure nobody is watching Videos or anything else...

Not sure if this is absolutely necessary, but it might prevent a problem or two.

Run the update from an admin (elevated rights) command prompt.

Doing it via RDP is fine.

If your boxes run Forefront for Exchange, you might find this blog post of mine 
useful, though it might not be needed for the latest RU updates:

It won't hurt to do that anyhow.

And it's probably time to start thinking about applying SP3 for Exchange 2010.

the limit, same behavior as Outlook.

We have to dismiss to be sure nobody is watching Videos or anything else...


-  That's one of the pleasures of supporting mobile devices. Don't 
expect the user to admit to watching Netflix on the iPad.

Most data plans in fact everyone I've seen only include download to the
device
Not upload

So in the uk this would not affect his plan no matter how the photo was
sent.

Exchange 2010 is /PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions necessary

All,

Getting ready to extend the schema for Exchange 2010 SP3.  We are native 
Exchange 2007.  It seems unnecessary to run setup 
/PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions as we do not have any servers running 
Exchange 2003.  Any caveats to not running this command?  Thanks!

Just a note on updating to Ex2010 SP3.  I presently use Exclaimers and Scanmail 
for Exchange 10.2xx from Trend Micro on my servers.  Exclaimers was ready for 
SP3 but Scanmail was not.  Trend told me that it will be ready with version 
11.x available in May/June.

Also, now that I am on SP2 RU6 (done Monday night) the issue we are having with 
sending from Outlook 2010 a message that was saved as a 
drafts(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2763886) is still occurring.  Any 
insight on this that you can give me?

Cached mode Now that is a touchy subject around here.
1) some of the addin's we are using in the past have been problems.

2) Some of our mailboxes are huge.  This makes caching them impossible.  Many, 
many of them are over 20gig. My top one (last time I checked) was over 90gig.  
What is the maximum size of the caching OST file?

2.6 TB is the maximum size of the OST file. That’s theoretical. It’s been 
tested (I know) up to 150 GB for Exchange 2010 and probably beyond that for 
Exchange 2013.

My cached OST is 23 GB. Works great. ☺ (And I’m on Outlook 2010 because I can’t 
stand the new Outlook 2013 theme colors.)

The MAJOR add-in providers have caught up. Of course, I don’t know your 
specific add-ins. But once Exchange profiles went to cached mode by default in 
Exchange 2007, many of the add-ins got on board within a year or two.

You can definitely use shell to achieve this.

Get all the salaes persons alias or emailaddresses into a notepad.

use the following command on the exchange shell

$sales=Get-content c:\salespersons.txt
foreach($person in $sales)
{
Add-MailboxFolderPermission -Identity $person:\Calendar -User SalesManager
alias -Rights Access Type
}


Access Type is normally ReadItems , but you can change as per your needs

 (I believe this is different than the RECOVERABLE ITEMS settings, but not
 sure.)

 Most of our user mailboxes are created “automatically” when user accounts
 are set up using scheduled PS  batch process scripts and default  retention
 tags policy is applied ( and this includes a 30 day limit for DELETED
 ITEMS).

 For this mailbox, I can get around this by just using the EMC, create the
 mailbox, and not apply any retention policy.

 I have already tested  and found, with no retention policy in place,
 DELETED ITEMS remain indefinitely and I can access  for several months back
 even though RECOVER DELETED ITEMS in the client goes back only 60 days.***

 So the question I am trying to sort out is, if I create the mailbox as
 noted above with all the settings noted, with no retention tag policy
 assigned to the mailbox, will this also apply to the mailbox DELETED ITEMS
 folder, or will I need to create a specific retention tag policy for
 DELETED ITEMS to apply just to this mailbox to make sure it is not
 retaining DELETED ITEMS for more than a day or so?

 Hi,

 You can also try to set the recoverable deleted items quota on the mailbox
 to zero on that specific mailbox , so that there will no mails piling up in
 the recoverable deleted items folder.

 

 Set the deleted items retention period for 24 or 48 hours

 Set-Mailbox -Identity MailboxName -RetainDeletedItemsFor 2

 

 Set the recoverable deleted items quota to 0GB

 

  Set-Mailbox -Identity MailboxName -UseDatabaseQuotaDefaults $false 
 -RecoverableItemsWarningQuota 0GB -RecoverableItemsQuota 0GB

 So after the retention period there will be no item which can be moved to 
 recoverable deleted items folder as its quota is 0GB

 


 it cannot hold any data.

 What you noted makes perfect sense.

 Yes there are extra steps, but I can handle and will have the least impact
 on our other databases.

  

 In case you are interested:

 Current plan is to add a small (10 GIG which can easily be expanded ) SAN
 drive to each DAG member, create a database just for this project, and
 apply all settings direct to the database.

 Dana,

 In this mailbox, under Mailbox Settings | Storage Quotas, you can change
 the Deleted item retention to 1 day so it will not use the inherited 60
 day setting.

 Another option is to create a 1GB database and include it in the DAG.
 Since the Keep deleted items for (days) setting is set on a per database
 level, you can set this new 1GB database for 1 day.  That way, it's
 different from the current 60 day setting you have for your other
 databases.  Once you move the mailbox to this new 1GB database, it will
 inherit the database settings.

 I prefer the first option as there are less steps involved.
