RE: Antigen filter *.*.* - worthwhile?
Well I must have a special release of Antigen. I filter with *.extension (*.com, *.bat ect...) and Antigen catches all of them. Any place I can read about this bug? I have not seen this issue. Mark -Original Message- From: Wendel, Jesse [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, February 07, 2002 12:23 PM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: Antigen filter *.*.* - worthwhile? Actually, no. The Internet Scan Job in Antigen, filtering on *.com, allows *.*.com to get through. This is a known bug. It works properly on the Realtime and Manual scan jobs - its only the Internet Scan Job which is at risk. I don't know if the issue extends beyond *.com to *.vbs. This became an issue last week with the My Party worm, where the Internet Scan Job was letting it into the system, but then the Realtime job was grabbing it. Antigen is working on a fix. In the meantime, Premium Support has suggested you configure your Internet Scan Job to filter on *.*.com. For more information, contact Sybari directly. Given a file mytrojan.doc.vbs, Antigen will pick it off if you are set to filter .VBS. It's never missed one for me. -Original Message- From: Bob Peitzke [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, February 05, 2002 4:36 PM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: Antigen filter *.*.* - worthwhile? We run Antigen 6.2 on our Exchange 5.5 server. We were advised by Sybari support to include the filter, *.*.*, which they said are often viruses (e.g. annakournikova.jpg.vbs). We tried it for a while, but were quarantining too many valid user attachments, and they rebelled, so I compromised and removed that filter. We are filtering exe, bat, cmd, com, vbs, vb, js, shs, lnk, pif, scr, hta, htm, and *.*} (whatever that is). Also we are using three AV engines, and updating them frequently. As I understand it, the *.*.* filter would only come into play on a new virus for which we don't yet have the signature, and is some other scripting language that we are not filtering. I'd like to get feedback on the protection compromise of not filtering *.*.* attachments. How many of you are using that filter? Do you think it adds significant protection? Have we missed any valuable filters? TIA Bob Peitzke Information Systems Manager Sander A. ANYBODY who knows what they are doing, knows when to call for assistance. ANYBODY who doesn't think that Microsoft PSS is worth a few hundred dollars isn't worth their time. It's completely idiotic to think that you know more than the thousands of PSS reps who have access to case histories that aren't available outside of the company and that you have access to more knowledgeable people than those who wrote the code. Last and not least, any company that boasts that they have 50+ MCSEs on their payroll is not high on my list. Good consultants get their MCSE as an aside with no training. And then again a company who only has one MCSE on their IT staff. And then again a company who doesn't think that having a premier support level is worth $120,000 And most stupid of all, a company who doesn't think that outside resources are needed when they are a consulting firm??? That's a pretty stupid concept. If your clients believed in the same thing that you seem to, then you wouldn't have any clients. As far as Exchange is concerned, there is NO ONE that understands EVERYTHING that there is to know about Exchange. I can prove that very quickly and very easily. RE: Ed Crowley Server move and login problems for remote users
I believe that the reason you are getting the prompt for the login now is that exchange server is now a member server and not a PDC. I have experience the same issue in the past. I believe, but not 100% sure that this is normal operation. The remote machines are probably connecting via some kind of VPN I would guess? So these users are not being initially authenticated with the PDC. So as they connect to the exchange server to access mail they need to provide a valid username/password/domain. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong. Mark Kelsay -Original Message- From: ivan garcia [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, September 12, 2001 5:25 PM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: Ed Crowley Server move and login problems for remote users Hi, We're in the process of using the Ed Crowley Server move Method and have moved the bulk of our mailboxes from the Primary exchange server 5.5 sp4, which is also the PDC to a new server running 5.5 sp4. The internal lan clients have had no issues getting moved. Remote persons have no problems with the move except one. Remote users are on everything from dialup to home office dsl,etc and running win2k pro. They are receiving a login prompt when they launch outlook despite having already entered those credentials upon initial login. Their profiles are pointing to the correct new server and changed to the new profile on their own as Ed Crowley's method state they would. All profiles are set to login using winnt authentication. Nothing has changed about their profile excepting the move mailbox process to the new server. In the past they simply logged into the system once and launched outlook and were off and running. To test I have recreated the profiles on their system and have entered an entry to the new exchange server in their hosts file. No go. They still get the login prompt. Can anyone provide some insight? RE: ArcServe2000
I use backupexec 8.5 and I must say it is pretty good. Most problems I have is because I hate reading manuals. Several weeks ago I had my only exchange 5.5 server blue screen (never ever want to see that again. almost passed out) I had just bought a new faster Dell server I was planning to migrate to. So I just did the restore to the new server and all was well. Big sigh of relief. I like Backupexec.
