Re: CAS 2010 load balance recommentation

The price for the Citrix Netscaler was over $100K. We would have to upgrade
our F5 so that is still an option. One of the reasons for the KEMP is that
it has integration with UCS.

  Greetings Todd,

In addition to the Kemp posts , if you are really doing an evaluation, you
may want to look at CITRIX Netscaler, as they have both virtual and
 hardware redundant options.

This may be in the $10K range for a pair of LBs, but do your own vendor
 investigation, as YMMV.

 ** **

F5 is another impressive option, but is very expensive – unless you need
 all the features.

 ** **

Regardless, if your production environment is critical, consider having a
redundant LB system and discuss with your selected vendor regarding
recovery options in the event of a LB failure.

 HTH.

security setting for the connection to Exchange 2010, to require an

 these worked.

I had the raid 5 set that housed the mail stores fail, Two drives failed.
After getting new raid controller card 1 hard drive, restored all of the
mailstores from the previous evening. Did not have to restore Exchange
itself. Did not trust the hardware, decided to virtualize to NMware. Did a
P2V to a ESXi 4.1 host powered up and has been working OK since.

I have also moved two of the mailboxes to another mailstore with the same

 Any suggestions a welcome.

Re: OWA question

2011-11-17 Thread Todd Lemmiksoo
I believe no, as the form only comes from TMG. Not sure you would want to
have your internal users access TMG from the external interface. It my work
by copying the HTM files from the TMG to your CAS IIS directory and rebuild
the VDir. Have not see this to work.

I'm setting up an OWA listener in TMG. The blog I'm following says to
turn off FBA in the Exchange console, and let TMG do the forms based

site don't get forms based auth, just the normal authentication window that
comes up connecting to any network resource.

Is there a way to have both, without making the external users log in
 twice?

This afternoon the Local Delivery queue is slow again (same as yesterday
afternoon). All the performance counters look OK. Stopped outbound mail for
a while with no effect. Should I try moving the working directory to
another drive ( all are 15K drives on a DELL MD3000 DAS). And some users are
 complaining about slow Outlook.

Exchange 2003 question on Master router change.

2011-07-08 Thread Todd Lemmiksoo
I'm in the process of planning the removal of our first Exchange 2003 server
from the Exchange organization. When I make the change to which server is
the Master router. Will this cause an outage to the user base. I would like
to do this change ahead of time. I have already added the new server to the
MX records for the domain.
All mailboxes have been moved and mailstores deleted except for the
mailstore that houses the System Attendant mailbox.

IS the storage limit per mailbox limited to 2GB?

wants me to override the Mailstore setting for a number of accounts. When I
go into ADUC to input a limit for a user I get a message the says to input
a value from 0 to 2097151. Can I change the upper limit value somewhere? I

Exchange mailstore size question

2011-06-02 Thread Todd Lemmiksoo
Is there another way to shrink the size of a mailstore other than taking it
off-line and esutil it?
I am in the process of decommission'g a server but not ready to delete the
mailstore that houses the System Attend mailbox. Getting pressure to return
the SAN storage. Need to reduce the size of the EDB file to move it to local
disk, all mailboxes have been moved off of the mailstore to another server.
Would creating a new storage group and moving the mailstore to it reduce the
actual size? Current size is 190 GB plus 89 GB for the STM.

Moving Mailstores in Exchange 2003

2011-04-20 Thread Todd Lemmiksoo
I am in the process of building a new Exchange 2003 EE box (don't ask). It
will replace our current Exchange 2003 box as we have had problems with the
box. I have read that it possible to move a mailstore from one Exchange
server to another Exchange server instead of doing individual mailbox moves.
Has any one done this or any suggest as to what to watch out for.
This would save a lot of time as I would be moving about 1700 mailboxes in
total from 4 storage groups.

We had around 4500 mailboxes and had very few issues scheduling them out of
hours with much interuption to users.

The Activesync has been rebuild from scratch as we had to rebuild the server

MS Support already told me to contact Apple. Did not know Apple would not

My 2003 store.exe is at 6.5.7655.5 and was prior to our Exchange 2010

iOS expects a minimum of ActiveSync v14 (Exchange 2010 RTM).

I believe, in fact, that apple support will tell you that modifying or
accepting appointments is not supported unless you are running Exchange
2010. AT least, that was the party line a few months ago.

iOS 4.2.? Recurring and single appointments. A couple of users iPhone's
have been reset, do not know about telling the iPhone to not sync the
calendar and then enable it. I do not get to handle the phone physically,
 these users are hospital execs.
The Activesync has been rebuild from scratch as we had to rebuild the
server 2 1/2 weeks ago. And restore the store DB's. The calendar issues
existed before the rebuild. store.exe is 6.5.7655.7

MS Support already told me to contact Apple. Did not know Apple would not
 open a case.

ActiveSync hotfixes in the past few years that may help.

My 2003 store.exe is at 6.5.7655.5 and was prior to our Exchange 2010
migration. We had minimal iPhone issues besides a specific overload issue
due to iOS4 when it was first released. I have to run to an appointment, so
I can’t tell you what hotfixes I have installed in my 2003 environment at
 the moment.

MS Support will tell you to contact Apple. Unfortunately Apple will not
want to support the issue since 2003 is EOL.

Appointments in Outlook do not show up in iPhone; not all just some. Have
requested the executives to not accept or create appointments on the phone,
 just in Outlook.

Thanks. Management refuses to consider going to Exchange 2007 or 2010 for

How do I fix calendar sync issues with iPhones. Already tried to open a
 case with MS.

If anything you may get more issues doing it that way. Personally speaking,
it’s always preferable to use the same CAS version as MBX version, so if
you’re not moving mailboxes to 2007 too, I’d forget adding a 2007 CAS and
 focus on fixing the issue.

But, it is of course possible J

We are having problems with iPhone calendar sync'g with Exchange 2003 and
Activesync. One of the options we are looking at is to add a Exchange 2007
CAS to replace the Exchange 2003 OWA box.
Are there any problems that anyone has come up against with this type of
environment. Is this a bad idea? Best practices?
