RE: Free Busy data for Outlook 2002

2010-12-02 Thread Michael B. Smith
(Did someone already respond? I didn't see it, but last night is/was a blur...)

Did you replicate the system folders (public folders) from the old server to
the new server?

Subject: Free Busy data for Outlook 2002

Another problem in my move to a new E2007 server. I've temporarily turned off
the outgoing server to test.

Outlook 2002 users are having problems when they use the scheduling functions.
They get a message box that says Outlook is retrieving data from old server.
Then a second error that says Unable to update free/busy data. Network
problems are preventing connection to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer.

When I boot the old server, everything is fine.

What did I miss?

The PF database on the mailbox databases on the new server all point to the new
PF database, right?

I don't know how many Outlook 2002 users you have, or how you have them
configured, but if you create a new MAPI profile for them, does it work then?

I have a vague recollection of something called a siteFolderServer that could
be coming into play here, but before I look that up, I'd ask you to check out

Another problem in my move to a new E2007 server. I’ve temporarily turned off
the outgoing server to test.

Outlook 2002 users are having problems when they use the scheduling functions.
They get a message box that says Outlook is retrieving data from old server.
Then a second error that says “Unable to update free/busy data. Network
problems are preventing connection to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer.”

When I boot the old server, everything is fine.

What did I miss?

RE: Free Busy data for Outlook 2002

2010-12-02 Thread Steve Hart
I was just running that.

The autodiscover service passes.

Outlook Anywhere fails with Attempting to ping RPC endpoint 6001 (Exchange
Information Store) on server mail.wrightbg.com. The attempt to ping the
endpoint failed.

Interestingly enough, I've rebooted the soon to-be-dumped server and my 1 OA
user can connect again. Of course, I'll need to resolve the issue for real
before I can decommission the server.

The PF database on the mailbox databases on the new server all point to the new
PF database, right?

I don't know how many Outlook 2002 users you have, or how you have them
configured, but if you create a new MAPI profile for them, does it work then?

I have a vague recollection of something called a siteFolderServer that could
be coming into play here, but before I look that up, I'd ask you to check out
those two things above...

Hello. Forgive me if I am posting this request for help to the wrong
list, but I am truly frustrated.

I have a client who has been attempting to use the Our of Office
Assistant from her Outlook XP installation. She is connected to an
Exchange 2000 server, but when she selects the menu item she gets an
error message that says cannot complete the command. Check program
manuals on how to use this extension. I have tried repairing the
Office installation, removing and then reinstalling Outlook, applying
Office XP service pack one. I even followed the instructions in Q193006
- How to Reset personal menus in Office XP and Office 2000. All to no
avail. Does anyone have ideas on how to fix this problem.

RE: Outlook 2002 Sync Error

Why do you guys find it acceptable to reduce the quality of your virus scan
as a solution to these problems.
Get on the phone with Symantec. DEMAND them to fix this and tell them you
will NOT use MAPI mode scanning. AVAPI is the only acceptable choice.

Slow launch Outlook 2002

2002-05-30 Thread Jim Terryberry

I have Dell laptops both loaded with Win XP (patched) and
Office XP (patched). Launching Outlook 2002 on one produces a fairly speedy
launch time; launching it on the second produces an extremely slow launch
time. Whats even stranger is that the quick launcher has Palm
Pilot programs installed and also has a tremendous amount of stored email. The
slow launcher has no extras and is pretty barren. I have already removed and
reinstalled Office and there was no change. Microsoft had one solution and that
was regarding a conflict with Norton Anti-Virus which neither laptop has
installed.

Questions? Answers??

Thanks in advance.

Outlook 2002 Reporting Functionality

Hi,

I know that Outlook 2000 and previous versions had the ability to print
custom forms and reports. Is there anything that can be used with 2002
that won't cost an arm and a leg? Have they (Microsoft) developed an
add on yet? Seems kind of crazy that the functionality isn't built

So, I know I don't know everything about exchange but my hope is that one =
of you might have the answer to this question.

Let's say I have a user that needs to be able to send and receive e-mail =
at several different addresses. For instance, this user would be:

 [EMAIL PROTECTED]=20

 [EMAIL PROTECTED]=20

 [EMAIL PROTECTED]=20

I know with an Exchange account, I can define multiple SMTP addresses for =
this person so they'll be able to receive mail (into the same mailbox) for =
all of these accounts. What I don't know is, how can joe.user send mail =
as each of these addresses ?

I'd like to avoid creating multiple mailboxes and message stores if =
possible, since the nature of these companies/groups is more contiguous =
than you might think. With Outlook 2002, I know it has an Accounts =
button, which would allow a person to send a message as either their =
exchange account, or another account (say a hotmail account). Would this =
work for my scenario? If not, what other options would I have?

 TIA,

 Steve

RE: Hide the Fax entry in Outlook 2002

2002-04-11 Thread Benjamin Zachary

Darin, Im having the same problem with one installation. Its an ex5.5sp4
site but it does have a fax connector on the server which Im considering
deleting, since they don't use it to see if that helps, but I havent
been able to find any help anywhere on this one.. What I end up with is
a real long address book view of Name, Display Name, email name, and
type smtp/fax. So I get a list of 2-3 entries for every user and have to
slide over to see which one it is. Very annoying..

Hi,

Is is possible to create a message and when you are using a public
contacts list as an address book not have the stupid fax entry show up?

Thanks,

You could uninstall OL2002 and replace it with an earlier less secure

Does anybody know how to disable the function on Outlook 2002 where it
request permissions if another program tries to send thru it? I know this
function is to protect against virii but I am using it on a server running
backupexec 8.6 and I have been having problems sending job notifications. I
can send the notification via SMTP but it doesn't include the job log so it
isn't an option. I can send notifications on a per job basis but it comes up
with the Outlook dialog box warning that another app is trying to send email
and if I want to allow it. When I try to send on a global basis nothing
happens, nothing is sent. i am wondering if it has to do with this new
feature in Outlook2K2. i can stick to sending the notifications on a per job
basis but it isn't going to send anything because it will be stuck on that
box asking what to do? Any ideas on how to disable this thing or maybe
specify which apps can send thru Outlook? TIA!!

Office XP - Outlook 2002 and your Desktop Fax solution

2001-12-20 Thread Rick Ward - HQ
Title: Office XP - Outlook 2002 and your Desktop Fax solution

Just an FYI.
Be aware that if you rely on CONTACTS for your desktop faxing solution that your users may experience problems selecting the name of the contact as they are both displayed exactly the same in the Address Book view of contacts now. If you use the auto resolver it works correctly and if you use check names it also works showing the contact name (email) and contact name (business fax).

I've submitted a change request via our TAM to see if we can get this changed back. It never did this in Outlook 2000 or prior versions and the excuse of this is by design is bunk and the workaround is UN(BLOODY)ACCETPABLE to me.

Here is the Q article supporting the MS position: Q305361

Outlook 2002/Exch 2K client access problems

2001-10-18 Thread Seaman, Derek L.
Title: Outlook 2002/Exch 2K client access problems

I've been running several Win2K native domains for almost 2 years. A couple of days ago I got Exchange 2000 and installed it on one of my newer domains. The installation went ok, and I also applied SP1. The whole process took almost 2 hours. Exch2K is installed on a Win2K member server.

Users can access Exchange via webmail with no problems. They can e-mail other domain users and everything works fine. But the problem is getting Outlook 2002 (running on Win2K pro) to connect using Exchange. When I try to add an Exchange service and resolve the name I get: The name could not be resolved. The name could not be matched to a name in the address list.

I found TechNet article Q257885 which addresses this exact error message. So I followed the directions and rebooted the GC server. I have two AD DCs for this small domain. After the reboot, the clients are still getting the error message. I've rebooted/restarted the Exchange server (which is a separate box from the DCs) and that didn't help either.

So right now I'm in a pickle, and my users can't start using the new server. Does anyone have an idea of what's wrong? Are there any DNS or LDAP entries that I can check for?

Outlook 2002 administrative policies

2001-10-01 Thread Bendall, Paul
Title: Outlook 2002 administrative policies

Ok I know this slightly off-topic of Exchange but has anyone had any experience of deploying Outlook2002 and using administrative policies through Windows 2000 GPO. In Outlook 2000 you could set the users with OST and set automatically synchronise after so many minutes and at log-off, this was under Tools|Options|Mail Services(Corporate or Workgroup Configuration)|Synchronize. I can't figure how to do this in XP and certainly can't find anything in the admin template unless I am going blind.
