Essentially, yes, you can move your exchange server into a DMZ, but you will end up punching so many holes into the corporate LAN, that you DMZ will be worthless. Are you sure he didn't mean to put an additional Exch 5.5 box in the DMZ (with no mailboxes on it)? Currently, do you have port 25 opened directly to your internal Exch 5.5 box from the Internet? Is he an IT consultant? I really cant believe that he meant this, but from other responses, I take it there are some real jewels out there... Much like Don I use a smtp proxy on a watchguard firebox with a sendmail esk email server in it. It works amazing and allows me to control address attachments all in one location. This may require a little translation. ROTFLMAO? Don's and my opinions may differ on the equipment, but I think everyone will recomend a proxy instead of sticking your email on a dmz. too Many holes. Would you have a large or small organization? My opinions regarding the WG are directed towards enterprise solutions which I haven't seen the WG be able to handle.
