[expert] Mandrake 9.0 final release install issues.
Even though disk 1, disk 2 and disk 3 all have the correct CRC values, I'm having troubles with Disk 2 and Disk 3. ?? I finally gave up and said one disk only. My video has worked very well. However, in the last several releases, I can check my video to make sure it is fine, if not I can go back and redo it. Why on earth would that option be removed? With only a 1 disk install, I'm pretty hamstrung. 1280 has always worked for me. Didn't. Re-installed from scratch and tried 800x600. Same error. I see my monitor a Viewsonic A110 is still not listed even though it is a mainstream monitor and I was asked for the technical information for it months ago. ?? I'm going to try again with 3.x and see if that works. So far, I've spent 5 hours trying to install this. This is the longest I've had to work on an installation. ? 3.x bombs too and it does not ask for a test drive of the xwindows prior to moving on. BIG backwards step in my opinion. Now I have to try to remember how to manually modify Xconfig. no such thing as setup anymore. I'm trying to remember the Xconfigurator command. With 3.x it is saying Open_framebuffer: failed to open /dev/fd0. ?? Something sure seems screwy. It installed at work with no issues. ?? I'm running a P4 on a gigabyte MB. using standard IDE and SCSI drives, with a Microsoft PS2 mouse. Nothing special other than an LS120 disk, but is seems to be recognized just fine. I also have a supermount of /dev/fd0. ?? Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com
Re: [expert] RE: Excluding lines starting with Csic but not Cs
Sean Moore sent me a solution (off list): ^(?!([Cc][Ss][Ii][Cc])).*mail (and ^(?!(Csic)).*mail works also, within Nedit). I'm actually trying to do the search in a TWiki, and apparently TWiki doesn't recognize the ?! syntax (or at least, it doesn't work). Anyway, thought I'd post this "for the record". PS: The ?! syntax is described on the perlre man page as: "A zero-width negative look-ahead assertion. For example "/foo(?!bar)/" matches any occurrence of "foo" that isn't followed by "bar". Note however that look-ahead and look-behind are NOT the same thing. You cannot use this for look-behind." And there is more that you should probably read if you plan to use this. Re: [expert] Supermount stopped working?
Todd, I am afraid, my problem is more serious and is not KDE-specific. Just tried Gnome and get exactly the same bundle of problems as in KDE: zip is not mounted properly, what file browsers as well as 'ls -ll' show me is NOT what's on the disk! I plug in a disk, but the file tree I see on it actually belongs to another zip disk, and it doesn't change if I try other disks. Needless to say, I can't write to the disks (all of which work fine in Win98). I recall now it started to go haywire after I installed a local printer with HardDrake. The printer also stopped working properly very soon after the installation (maybe when I accessed the zip...). So, the real problem must be some serious conflict b/w zip and printer. I'll start digging there... (I'm doing this in the "find" dialog of Nedit 5.2 (which is the "current" version in Mandrake 8.2).) I've tried REs like the following: ^[^(Csic)].*mail ^[^Csic].*mail ^[^C][^s][^i][^c].*mail ... with variations in the capitalization and in the case sensitivity (but I suspect I should stay with "not case sensitive" while I'm finding an RE). I think this is the outpourings of a very old virus (one of the Outlook "read the address book and fire off emails from its contents" type); I remember a problem like this cropping up easily 2 or 3 years ago on one of my mailing lists. Re: [expert] Myster of my own.
yep, I think it is either someone "harvesting" good e-mail address (ie.; no bounce in the first min, must be a "good" address with a valid e-mail box) but I have noticed about a week later, the same domain but a different sender finds a klez or a nimda mail sent to me also, (just three attachments, one of which is an *.exe or *.pif or *.com etc) the one I liked was the second from the same address, that said "Symantec has a removal tool for Klez32", and it was Klez. Re: [expert] j2sdk just a little help ...
hmm... my j2sdk when queried with: rpm -q --scripts j2sdk only tells me that in fixes symbolic links for the manuals. then it might be an older release I have, j2sdk-1.4.0-fcs. the 'which java' points you to the kaffe-links, which is a os jvm. it is required for mandrake- wizards I think. - Original Message - From: "Mark Weaver" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > according to the information on Sun's site though the installation rpm's > should be setting the path to where Java can be found. something I've > noticed about 8.2 and 9.0 is that when issuing the "which java" command > one is usually presented with the following output: > > /usr/bin/java > > I also noticed that before I even installed j2sdk1.4.0_01 that I was > able to both compile .java source files, but also run them from the > commandline which indicated to me that at least the most fundamental > parts of java were already installed on the system. hi frank, when you say 'dynamic dns', i'm not sure which service provider you are refering to :-( a google search suggests dyndns.org ? bascule On Friday 27 September 2002 3:24 am, you wrote: > I have always used dynamic dns... > > they offer free and paid for, whenever I set up a box using it, I send them > 20dollars.. [expert] Serious glitches in Mandrake9.0
Hello all, I've recently decided to upgrade my laptop (IBM ThinkPad 390E, for that matter) from RH6.0 to Mandrake9.0. The reason: Laziness i.e. urpmi instead of figuring out rpm dependencies by hand and/or the "gtar; configure; gmake" mantra Anyway, so far I have some problems w/ it, some serious, some not 1) Not serious: Frame buffer fscked at boot up If I decide to boot up using linux-nofb (I'm a bitter old man, I hate change and flashy stuff), after starting S12syslog in run level 3 (but God knows what causes it) the screen changes in some weird text mode. That per-se is not such a huge problem. However, there is a problem w/ the framebuffer that makes it keep a white rectangle in top left corner of screen. Really ugly. Any hit wrt the where/whats w/ the text mode fubars? 2) (VERY) Serious: Devfs problems ? I have a 256MB CF card (digital camera mem) and a CF->PCMCIA adaptor. When I pop it in the free PCMCIA slot: - First, automount doesn't do its job and mount /dev/hde. - Much more serious: When manually trying to mount the card via e.g. via: root:~# mount /dev/hde1 /compactflash (or /dev/hde for that matter) the system goes beserk: The mount hangs, system dogged slow, doesn't shutdown except dropped from 2m high (i.e. power off).
