[expert] Postfix and "lookup failure"

2003-08-26 Thread Miark
I set up postfix, and when I try to send mail to a
user on the system, Postfix responds with

   451 <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: Temporary lookup failure

and in /var/log/mail/warnings it says

warning: cannot access UNIX password database: No such file or directory

which doesn't make sense. The box works like a charm for everything
else. Anybody know what's going on?

Postfix runs chrooted in /var/spool/postfix. Make sure that a copy of
/etc/passwd is in /var/spool/postfix/etc then restart postfix.

This is strictly a WAG (wild a** guess) but putting two and two together
I may have come up with 4, maybe 5 not sure. But One of the salesmen
noted today that sometimes when he logs in at his home every e-mail he
sends bounces, or disappears. But if he does a release on his dhcp addy
and grabs a new and different one. He can send no sweat. I'm wondering
if some of the mail servers around here are starting to block IP numbers
that they have marked as "infected" and when people with dhcp get what
used to be a winders IP number... Dunno just a thought.

I think it is the same in moz, but not sure.

In moz firebird:

file --> print, then click properties, you can change the print
command.

I replaced lpr with kprinter (qtcups is linked to it, too).

Makes it slower, but now i can at least print to pdf, etc...

If someone knows a better way, please let me know.

[expert] sblive problem

2003-08-26 Thread Andre Labbe
Hi

I use v9.1 and I do have a problem with the sound the rest is ok (dc265,
scanner, Zaurus, Nvidia). In kde, if I select Alsa within the sound server I
cannot adjust the level with kmix, some controls do work ((wav setting) and
(bass/trebble are on max but not enable, if I adjust them they become
enable) , but the master volume does not work. If I select Oss the control
in kmix works, but bass/treble and other are gone.
My config
 P4, Abit BE7-raid (onboard sound disable), SBLive 5.1 (I've tried with a
SBLive, same problem). I do use dual boot and with XP everything is ok

Anything stupid that I forgot to do ?

That's exactly how I changed it, but setting mine to xpp. I guess
using kprinter would offer the advantages of pdf etc as you say,
eric, so maybe it's worth trying both ways and see which one suits

This has been going on for months. Oh well, it is better than nothing. I
wonder how many users we have subscribed here.

Perhaps one of us with some spare bandwidth and extra CPU cycles on a server
should start an independent mail-list ??? (Using mailman and postfix)

Or has somebody already done this?

Hmmm... i didn't realize you could print "thru" xpp. I wonder if we
could set it up to print to a batch file that would then ps2pdf it.

I sure would like to get away from kprinter. Hasn't been much of a
priority, but i'll add this to my "B" list of things to try...

it may not all be something the server can handle, E-mail does not
traverse the Internet with the same priority as web pages or ftp. some
of it may well be from individual messages floating around the net
before reaching the server. with all the M$ worms and virus out there,
there is bound to be some mail servers que not able to handle the load.

Hmm - I don't know how much you can achieve from kmail - I haven't had
time to play around - but in Mozilla, if you hit Print then
Properties from the first screen, that is where I have xpp set.
OTOH, as a one-off experiment, I put kprinter in place of it, and
printed to pdf - no batch file required. I'll send the result to you
(it's just too big to send to the list)

LOL - I knew it was in the print settings somewhere, but couldn't for

OTOH, looking at this thread, I've learned that I can print pretty

I'll go try that right now - but...does it affect all printouts system wide?
I've never ever used Kwrite

[expert] Configuring apcupsd

2003-08-26 Thread Anne Wilson
It is forecast that the UK will have considerable power outages this
winter, so I'm trying to get my ancient APC Backups to autoshutdown,
in case I'm not around to catch it. Up to now it has just held the
system going long enough for me to shutdown, but that's too risky if
power cuts can be any time.

So - I've installed apcupsd. I've gone through the conf file, and
checked what I can, but the serial cable I had supplied with this
unit doesn't indicate type at all. The documentation says that you
can run apctest to check it. I can't find apctest, and it doesn't
appear on either my installed list or installable list. I know that
some of you run apcupsd, so do you have the test program, and if so,
how did you find it?

Anne

Well after some sleep last night I renewed my search. My face is quit
raw from the "slapping myself silly" inflected on myself.
The solution was right there on the print panel:

1. From within KWrite go to print screen and on that panel, I'm using
Cups,
2. Hit the "Expand" button

3. Right in the middle you will see "Copies, Text Settings, Headers &
Footer Layout Advance Options and Additional Tags".
4. Open the Header & Footer panel and check or uncheck the "Print Header"

I'm feeling a bit embarrassed right now :-[ .

Should only effect the users system. As for Kwrite I used this as
example. The print panel will be used for all programs that use kdeprint.

Hi List!

I'm trying to find some tool that allow me to convert easyly my pine's
addressbook to mozilla/netscape addressbook, and even possible, to palm as
well.

Many thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers,

Hi Alan,

I don't know of any tool that will do this other then you and the
keyboard. I've done it before for a friend who needed to import the
thing into Mozilla. All that is really involved in getting it done is to
open the file in a text editor and arrange the contents in a manner that
Mozilla will find acceptable. Save it as a csv file.
