Re: [expert] YaBQ: Yet nother burning question
One of the reasons for MD5 values is to make sure the transfer of data or iso is successful. Did you check the MD5 values on the 98 box? Also Nero has a prob- lem burning "track-at-once" so select "disc-at-once". Use name brand CDRs not geneic no name stuff. And the last thing I can of is if your recorder doesn't support "Burnproof" slow down the burn rate then try making an iso off the burned CD it should be the same as the original. I don'thave a CD writer in that machine so I transferred the files to the winmachine (temporary net connection via cross-over cable).I followed the HOWTO-ISO on the Mandrake website (although Nero is a veryintuitive tool). I keep getting errors (Write error) after about 2 thirdsof the iso. I checked all 3 ISO files and get the same error. I tried 4different CD media, get the same error.Otherwise the Plextor works ok and I just copied a Mandrake 8.1 CD withthe same device and the same media and the same software without errors.Any idea? wobo Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Try making the changes below and if that helps. #!/usr/bin/perl while (<@ARGV>) { $x = $_; tr/A-Z/a-z/; system("mv","$x","$_"); } Michael Holt wrote: >Hello all! > I've got a directory of mp3's which I stream from my server on an >internal lan. I currently support Mandrake by purchasing their products I have the Power Packs 8.0 and 8.1. Some of you have joined the Mandrake club and I commend you for the donation made; as for benefits of the club what have you received? Any downloads that I don't have or books, etc. available? I've been considering joining for weeks and just want feedback on whether it was just a donation or do you really enjoy the benefits? Dwaine Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? [expert] Matrix screensaver install.
Does anyone know why the matrix screensaver will not show up in the selection box? I used "rpm -ivh cmatrix-1.1b-1.i386.rpm" as root and installed with no errors on Mandrake 8.1. Thanks, Dwaine Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com
[expert] SuSE 7.3 Personal
Well I found out why I had to buy Suse 7.3 instead of downloading trying out first before I buy that's because it's no good. During installation it locked numerous times; had to finish the install in safe mode just so I could get to the desktop, it can't detect monitors and is very buggy once up and running. No more Suse for me. Redmond (Lycoris) and Redhat are close seconds so I don't buy. Mandrake is what I keep buying each and every time a PowerPack comes outs. RE: [expert] low-level format
Most hard drive manufactures provide a utilities disk downloadable for free; on the drive is a program which will zero the drive which is the state it was when new. Low level formatting a IDE drive is very risky not cut and dry like SCSI, chances are a low level would ruin it for sure. If writing zeros (erasing) the drive doesn't fix its issues it probably is time to deep six it. You may want to suspect the VIA chipset they have a know data corruption problem and I don't think they have fixed it yet. One independent software Testing company said a SoundBlaster Live card tended to make it more likely To occur. Your are not the first person I have heard this complain from. I.E. two hard drives? Some hard IDE drives do not co-exist well with others. Your Motherboard supports UDMA 100 speeds. Are you REALLY using a UDMA cable instead of a standard IDE one? Linux cranks the drive speed up, so you really need the extra shielding on the cable. Also try lowering the xfer rate on the drive. Drop it to 33.
