problematic. Is there anybody listening here that can give a consensus
on the Radeon situation? Are they running more or less natively, or not
 at all, or what?

Also, is the performance level of the Radeons under 3D games in Linux
comparable to the Nvidia equipment and the proprietary drivers?

I'm curious since I have been looking at the ATI side. I've got an Abit

I'm using Radeon VIVO 64MB in 8.2 and can't complain...
Thus I had get ati2 drivers from

http://gatos.sourceforge.net

and install them after instructions...Haven't tested much with games
but Return to castle of wolfenstein seems to work fine...

And here's my glxgears

Loading required GL library /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2
4465 frames in 5.0 seconds = 893.000 FPS
4932 frames in 5.0 seconds = 986.400 FPS
4933 frames in 5.0 seconds = 986.600 FPS
4933 frames in 5.0 seconds = 986.600 FPS

Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including
invalid IO or IRQ parameters

To me this does not tell anything, but looking somebody who has ahaa
to tell me and propably make twisted model how to make things working.

My mdk installation is upgrade over mdk-freq-2.
Otherway this system is running okFine piece of art!

Vs: [expert] IDE and Reiser FS question

Also, thanks to those who replied about the possible IDE disk problem with
the Abit KT7 motherboard, but I gather from the newsgroups that the
HighPoint HPT370 UDMA chip is a problem with Linux. The motherboard/disk
combination has worked for months; does anyone have idea whether the
   dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekCompleteError} or dma_intr:
error=0x84 { DriveStatusError BadCRC } is something serious on a
seemingly-stable system or can I ignore it?

You have a Western Digital Drive?

If so, it is pretty normal. So is the eventual data corruption you will get
above UDMA2 (33MHz). WDs simply do not have the hardware to cope with higher
speeds and cannot do the required 57-byte CRCs. And if you don't believe me,
  email Andre Hedrick direct.

It is a WD Caviar 200BB, which I bought after reading good reviews at some
hardware website (either Tomshardware or anandtech). Can anyone
recommend a good 7200 RPM that will work reliably with the ATA100 HPT370
chipset? Or am I going to have to scrap the motherboard as well?

 Thanks,

 Dan

Hi Dan

I had WD 10G caviar and just for it's smallnes i changed to
SAMSUNG 40G.

Re: [expert] 2.2.13-22mdk is bogus?

1999-12-09 Thread Jarmo Kettunen

Hello all

I'm a little bit off topic...BUT

Has anyone else had this BIIIG problem.!!!
This far used AMD K6-2/333 with Jamicon motherboard 100mhz bus 64 megs ram,
10G hd,34x cdrom external usrobotics sportster flash modem, realtec ether
card,
have tested many vers RH and now Mandrake 6.1-1 with 2.2.13-7 kernel.
This far all ok...recombiled kerne couple of times...especially for ax25.

Now updated my prosessor to AMD K6-2/450 Mhzso far went fine...but when
started combile kernel
started problemsmenuconfig ok,make dep ok,then bzlilo all the possible
errors,ie can't get it made...Boy 4 days now trying
no success.
Got ahaa!!! Took RH 6.1 started installing ,all ok got rh running, except
rh's installation (full) some how leaves much selected
items uninstalled.
But again when started recombile kernel, troublesbut after some hours got
compilaition ok and what more rh running.
In Mandrake didn't get kernel combiled.
Writing this in win...my linux is MESSS!

OK...now do I have to do combile every time with 333Mhz prosessor and change
it afterw. to 450 or is there already invented
wheel?

Unfortunately this gates thing works...there's nothing to do.Exept one
radioamateur program, which kind haven't found yet for
linux.

I'll try SUSE for testing is this only RH/MANDRAKE,which making me
neurotic, mean day without linux I ME!

Please don't ask err files...could not get them, beside attached them could
have taken hudredthousands kb's

So please if somebody have had same kind probs. and found solution, other
than change computer, please drop me a note.

All the best

Jarmo

Re: [expert] Re: modem

1999-12-06 Thread Jarmo Kettunen

I have same modem working fine...using kppp and every time connection
has happened.
In kppp in setup there's "query modem" try that.
In newest rh-6.1 there's autoregonation and that found my modem every
time.
In startup also if modem was not on,announced missing modem...
That disto is too much going to look like gates
