[expert] rpm/deb files

2001-02-03 Thread Ted Wager

Hi..
Can anyone tell me
If I convert a .rpm to a .deb file will the .deb file find it's dependencies
as a normal .deb file will..
Is there a way to view the contents of a .rpm and a .deb file as you can with a
.tar file or a way to strip the .deb or rpm file down so as to see the contents
without installing it ??

Hi..
Did you use the mkbootdisk command or use the create bootdisk from the

I found on an earlier the installscreen bootdisk did not work but the
mkbootdisk was ok
You can always copy /etc/lilo to /root and create a bootdisk from that or
if you have reconfigured the kernel by doing a make bzdisk

  Hi,

I know that this is a common question, but I would appreciate hearing from
anyone who has had experience with either a Canon BJC-6200 or an Epson

these as the best 2 printers in my budget range that are presently
 available locally.

I have been to various sites that seem to suggest the Epson is better
supported under Linux, but others describe the Canon drivers as
 "operational".

I am after a printer to do good quality printing - some colour photos, but
mostly BW - at home. It must be useable under Linux, M$ Windows (98 NT)
and maybe even BeOS, and also network accessable.

I currently have a Lexmark 2030 which is a Win-printer and not able to
network even then! so I'm looking to replace it with something decent.

Any help/opinions would be much appreciated.

 TIA

Hi..
Thanks for the info...I edited out the -p and on shutdown it tells m
Starting halt~ /etc/rc.d/rc0.d/S01halt~ call me as "rc.halt " or "rc.reboot"
please
  [FAILED]

It does seem to shutdown ok though as I get no error messages on reboot.

Your system is trying to auto-power down. You need to tell
it not to attempt to power down. Sorry, I forgot what you
need to edit or what changes need to be made, but basically
it's the APM trying to shut down your machine. It's just
better to manually power it down by pushing the power
button than to let Linux power it down

Thanks to all for the info..
This shutdown is basically what I do..The scrolling stops after abt 3 minutes
and then I power down...
I have run SuSe, Slackware, Debian on this partion in the past and not one of
these has exhibited this tendency...
