SOLVED Re: [expert] USB mouse problem
Well, i solved by choosing on the ¨looking for new hardware¨ window that apeared on boot, the usb mouse. The problem now is that if i take out the mouse, i can´t get the track point to work again. So that should be the next problem that i will have to solve. So thanks for the time but don´t worry, it is solved. Do you have a USB-to-PS/2 adapter? I had that problem with the Logitech Cordless MouseMan+ that came with my Freedom Pro Cordless set, plugged it into PS/2, and it worked flawlessly, wheel and all. Re: [expert] Usb mouse isn't loaded after install
I have the same mouse and it works on my regular computer. maybe your usb port is buggy. There usually are two, try switching the mouse from one to the other and see if it works. However, I tried installing 7.2 on a Sony VAIO laptop however, and the USB mouse didn't work --linux didn't recognize whatever USB system Sony had. I had to use the little green adapter that came with the mouse and run it off the PS2 port. -Original Message- From: RODRIGUES Nuno <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Expert <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Friday, March 23, 2001 4:01 PM Subject: [expert] Usb mouse isn't loaded after install >Hi >I've installed Mandrake 7.2 an during the install my usb mouse was >recognized and I could use it without problems, but after rebooting the >mouse isn't working anymore. >I get on start on the start (boot) /usr/mouse Device not found. > > >it's a Logitech weel mouse usb I read the mandrake manual, and there it >says choose your mouse click ok and the settings will work... Re: [expert] USB-mouse and 7.2 - disappearing hardlink!?
One thing on my PS/2 trick that I failed to mention is that when you reboot and unplug the PS/2 mouse then when Linux starts the hadware wizard will ask if you want to remove the PS/2 mouse configuration. Either choose No or Ignore. Just out of curiousity. The system I had the problem on is a AMD 450 k6-2 with a VIA chip set. How many of you that are haiving this problem also have the VIA chip? But to make this story even more interesting, I did the following: The console mouse did not work from as early as boot time (/dev/mouse no such device). So I made a hardlink "ln /dev/usbmouse /dev/mouse". Rebooted. Checked the console, fire up mc, mouse working fine. I thought, well, it is sorted. I left my computer on for the night, then in the morning cursor is frozen in X, switching to console, getting the same erro message: "oops, error /dev/mouse no such device gpm invoked from gpm.c (170)" What is going on? I am almost at the point to stop the gpm demon and forget about console mouse, but this would not be a nice way to solve a problem.. Re: [Re: [expert] USB-mouse and 7.2]
I installed Mandrake 7.2 with low security settings, and I have the same problem with my USB Intellieye. It worked fine under install and after install as well, because I go into initlevel 5 right away. But after a while, when DPMS switches off my system, by the time it wakes up, the system is frozen (I mean no mouse under X). If I switch to console, I can see the same error message: "no /dev/mouse". I re-linked /dev/usbmouse to /dev/mouse but it did not fix the problem. Reading what you experienced, I wonder what happens if you try to link /dev/mouse to /dev/psaux ? Would it fix the problem? Could you take a look at whether /dev/mouse link is actually exist on your system after doing your trick? And if it exists, where it points to? Re: [expert] USB-mouse and 7.2
I have a Logitech Optical Wheelmouse and I had the same problem with it. The USB mouse driver would load during boot but Mouse Con fails with a no dev/mouse error so that when I got to the graphical login my mouse would not work. The way I was able to fix mine was to hook-up a PS/2 mouse as well as the USB mouse, boot the system. When the new hardware wizard launched I configured the mouse as a USB Wheel mouse. Once the system finished booting I shutdown and unhooked the PS/2 mouse. I restarted my system and the USB mouse including the wheel functions worked perfectly. Re: [expert] USB Mouse Support.
Run mouseconfig from the shell prompt and see what happens. Two things to look at also: 1) /dev/mouse and see what it points to (hopefully the usb device file) and 2)recompile the kernel but if the install recognized it then it should be in the installed kernel functionality but that does not mean that it is.
