Re: Lucy and Michelle/Ear problems

2007-02-15 Thread Sally Davis

I have 8 other cats 5 are in/out cats, 2 are inside only and one is outside
only(her choice).

I know it is controversial the Merck Manual says to vaccinate except for
FeLV. I do not try to keep them separated because it is less stressful. They
are vaccinated against distemper, rabies and FeLV. Tiny did fine with the
vaccines he died of something unrelated. I may just do the immuno-regulin.
Any other opinions here.

Thanks for your opinion.

Hi Beth

He was checked out by a vet and there was no infection or mites just the
inflammation. A that time he gave Junior a steroid shot and the swelling
went down, but it only lasted a couple of days. I do have some Tresaderm
that I am going to use on him. It was given to him last spring after he came
home from being hit by a car. He did have mites at that time. His ears have
been clear ever since then.

One thing today he feels great!. He ran after me thinking he was getting
another goody, (he did get one). I have not seen him move that fast in ages.
Maybe all the supplements he gets is making him feel better. I love my
Junior so much. I am hoping he can make it until March 9th when he has a
real appointment scheduled. So far all his visits have been sick visits or
getting the immuno-regulin shots. Maybe not he is supposed to get the
feline distemper shots. He did not get vaccinated when Tiny did because he
was sick at that time.

One day at a time.

Daisy is out of heat but for how long I don't know. She was only out of
heat for two days the last time. Her appointment is Feb 27.

Very sorry to hear of you loss Laura. Thanks for being such a good mom.

Thanks

Sally

Susan and traping Sissy

2007-02-15 Thread Nina

Susan,
Have you tried a drop trap yet? It sounds like little Sissy would be
able to be caught with one. If you guys don't have access to one in
your rescue circle it would definitely benefit you to build one of your
own. Alley Cat Allies has plans for one using pvc pipe, but I made mine
out of wood and garden netting. Here's the plans that Bruce used for
ours: http://www.droptrapdesign.blogspot.com/
We modified it a bit, put wheels on the side to make it easier to
transport, hooks to attach the regular trap to the sliding trap door for
when I'm trapping alone etc. I use it for those very hard to catch guys
and even when they aren't motivated by the bait, they generally can't
help checking it out, then wham! I've got 'em!

There's also something called a "super trap" designed by a lady here in
the LA area. It's huge, and hard to transport, but if you have enough
open space, it's a sure bet that you'd be able to catch the most wily of
ferals using it. It's also good for catching more than one at a time.
Here's the plans and an article about it:
http://www.amrt.net/feraltrap/trap.htm

Good luck, let us know how you do,
Nina

Subject: Please add to CLS and Special Needs List

This has not been a good weekend at my house. I have a little 4-cat feral
colony I have fed daily for a year -- we've had pretty bad weather lately and
I've put mounds of food out -- and haven't seen Buddy and Sissy, two little
longhaired tabby littermates in over a week. Hoped that they were just coming
and eating when they were hungry since there was so much food - and not coming
around waiting for me to get there at my usual time. Sat. I called and called
- it was a nice day, warmer and sunny, and I'd left only a small amt. of food
Friday hoping they'd show up Sat. A man who lives next to where I feed them
came out and told me that one of the tabbies had been hit by a car and died in
his yard. From his description I think it was Buddy. I am devastated. Buddy
had evolved from a totally feral little boy to a friendly fella who met me in
the Backyard Burger (where the feeding station is) parking lot when he heard my
car. I could pet him, even rub his tummy. If
I sat still I could ease him into my lap. His sister still wouldn't let me
touch her but has been getting better. I planned to relocate both Buddy and
Sis to my back yard as soon as I could touch Sissy.Separating them wasn't
an option. Sissy was Buddy's little shadow - she depended on him so.I
didn't try to trap her since she was coming around and I figured in a month or
two more I would be able to pet her. Now I am kicking myself for not
relocating them sooner. I have a friend who feeds for me on Sunday and she
saw Sissy -- or at least she thinks it was Sissy and not Buddy. I almost
think it would be better if it were Sissy to have died because Buddy is so much
more independent and open to human touch. Please add my little Buddy Bear to
the CLS. He was neutered, vaccinated and negative for felv/FIV. And about 2
years old.

This morning I left my little miracle man, Leader, all wrapped up in my
sweatshirt on the bed - and, I think, dying. He was born with feleuk - his
whole litter tested and retested positive. All his littermates died at or
before about age two -- including Gloria's Mittens -- but Leader has lived to
be just 2 months short of SIX years. He has been doing fine -- skinny,
looking like death warmed over -- but fine until he recently got an awful URI.
I've treated him with immunoregulin, Baytril, Tylosin, Naxcel, fluids. Up
until last night he was eating well altho weak. This morning he wouldn't eat.
Please put him on the Special Needs List and please, all, pray that he beat
this URI.Thanks.
