Hi Jari,

We are in Paris and away from computers and Finale so cannot see this work, but
I have been thinking about asking you to explore just this kind of thing as
QuicKeys will not work in Maverick (neither does my printer, so I am back on
10.8) or future OSs. I look forward to finding out what you have done and to
discussing the possibilities with you. I had wondered if there was a
possibility of creating these things within Finale and knew you'd be the guy.

Best regards,

It’s probably too early to say no one else is, and these types of things I
like to try and button up as fast as possible.

Were you able to get in touch with support? They can get some diagnostics
from your PC, and usually those help track these things down. We do have a
brand new audio engine in 2014, which by our testing has been much more
compatible with a wide range of hardware, but unfortunately you can’t
catch every PC configuration out there sometimes and little issues may pop
up.

It's not so much the menu disaster, it's that none of the plugins seem

Re: [Finale] Finale 2014 Mac and Java

2013-11-04 Thread Dean Rosenthal
I've read about this with Mavericks (Java 6 SE). Is it the case for all
versions of Finale? It's about high time I traded up (2009c current) - Jari
posted a review that appears helpful, much about legacy files, among other
intrinsic details. My main concern is that my .mus files from 2009 will open,
edit, save, and correctly play with Garritan sounds. Then I look forward to
learning all of the new features that have accumulated since 2009c.

[Finale] Automation in Finale

Hello!

A while ago, there was this discussion here about automation in Finale
(and the lack of auto layout, etc). I've now made a demo video, trying
to show the direction regarding automation I'm personally aiming for.
It's demoing some Finale 2014 smartshape features as well.

The TGTools lite that's included in Finale doesn't hook to the
application menu.

The Finale UI menu is now in Cocoa, which means that TGTools (full)
won't be able to "move" the menu items as it used to. The "easy" thing
that Tobias could do (for now) is to just disable the menu coding
altogether and let users install it in a plug-ins subfolder.

However, when Finale goes 64 bit, TGTools will be completely dead. I
made a decision about 2 years ago to remove TGTools just to avoid
dependencies on it, and make my own tools where I missed them.

2013-11-04 Thread Phillips, Justin
I haven’t seen this before.

Do you have any USB devices attached to the computer (other than a mouse
and keyboard)? If so, try removing all of them, restarting the computer,
and re-launching Finale. Does the same error appear?

If so, try this:

1. Close Finale if open.
2. Navigate to:
* Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\(Your User Name)\Application
Data*\MakeMusic\Finale 2014
* Windows Vista/7/8: C:\Users\(Your User
Name)\AppData*\Roaming\MakeMusic\Finale 2014

*This is a hidden folder. To show hidden files and folders, go to the
Explorer's Tools Menu (XP) or the Organize Menu (Vista/7), Folder and
Search Options, the View tab, and Show hidden files and foldersFor this
pathway in Finale 2010 and previous click here

3. In this folder you will see two files that have the type Configuration
Settings. This files have an icon that look like a notepad with a gear.
They are listed as:
* Finale.ini
* Finmidi.ini

4. Delete these files.
5. Empty the Recycle Bin.
6. Restart the computer.
7. Run Finale. Finale will now reset itself to it's default settings. It
will also ask you to set the MIDI setup again.

Hurrah for Justin!

Hurrah for this list!

Exactly the parameter I hadn't thought of!

Playback works in FM2014!

Thanks!

Re: [Finale] And there it is, folks: Finale 2014 is here -

2013-11-04 Thread Lawrence Yates
When I start Finale I get:

Finale's Audio Engine failed to load. Please restart Finale. Error code 7

Audio Output source was "Primary Sound Driver".

I changed it to "Realtek HD Audio output and restarted Finale.

Same error message.

When I try to playback anything the cursor appears at the start of the line
then stops.

Cheers,

Lawrence

Well, I had to copy the plugin to the new Finale 2014 folder in the Library
folder (I'm on a Mac).

It shows up, but none of the things seem to work...which is not good. I use
TGTools daily in Finale.

Well, how likely is that? He hasn't "officially" updated it to work with
anything other than Finale 2010, and still refers to Coda Music on his site

I know that MakeMusic uses some of the TGTools stuff with Finale 2014, and

I haven't been able to try it, but you might try disabling the TGTools Menu
(in Fin12) and seeing if it then shows correctly in Fin14. I feel certain
the UI changes in Fin14 have probably broken the TGTools menu.

Hi Bob,

Java 6 is required for MusicXML support on Mac because Java 7 on Mac is
64-bit only. Java 6 on Mac has all the security improvements that Java 7
does; it's not the old version that Oracle has available for Windows
downloads.

Re: [Finale] Finale 2014 Mac and Java

2013-11-04 Thread Eric Dannewitz
I didn't see it wanting to use Java. I do have Java installed, whatever the
latest version is on 10.9.

I did notice that the first time you run the Demo, it scans all your plugins,
but doesn't tell you that it is, so it appears it has HUNG but it hasn't. And I
had to force quit at least once cause it got hung up on a plugin (Sibelius
sound thing I think).

It would be nice if the program told you what it was doing. Every other DAW or
thing that uses Audio Units tells you it is scanning.and if it gets
hung up you can have a reasonable idea what plugin was causing it.

But FM2014 plays back through the internal speaker of my desktop Mac. Useless!

None that I know of, but I¹ve made note of that as a feature to add

OFF Human Playback or adjusting HP settings to ensure no time variances

[Finale] Finale 2014: Improved export to WAV, but ...

2013-11-04 Thread Craig Parmerlee
Kudos for the improvements on Export to Audio. In the past I couldn't
complete the export at all for VST instruments in most cases. Now it
seems to be completely reliable and quite fast.

However, I would have hoped there would be an option to create separate
WAV files for each staff line, so that the parts could easily be moved
over to a DAW. I don't see anything like this. I presume that it is
possible to solo the tracks and then go through the export process a
bunch of times. This seems like a perfect case for a plug-in. Is there
any such plug-in out there for that purpose?

I sure hope that the upgrade to 2014 is vastly superior to their
web-site programming skills! All I can get to is Finale2012, and when I
clicked on the "upgrade" button all I got was a message telling me that
there were no upgrades available (which makes sense since I already have
upgraded to 2012).

Nice work, MakeMusic! Truly a confidence-inspiring display of
programming prowess!
