Hi Patricia, you don't need the b6 in the minor keys spelling table because it is in the key signature. Same goes for the b3, which eliminates the need for #2 also. All you need to do is to choose #7 instead of b8. Harold Quoting Patricia Spedden : > Thank you for taking the time to offer suggestions. > > I must really be doing something wrong. I generally, however, use Favor Sharps or Favor Flats, and have set keyboard shortcuts to switch quickly between them. For G harm minor, I would use Favour Sharps to make the 7th degree show up as F#. As for the second question, I would always use Tracks Become Staves. This means that if the maker of the MIDI file put the same alto sax sound on the same channel on two different staves (Alto Sax 1 and Alto Sax 2, for example), it would show up on two different staves, but they hardly ever do that. Channels Become Staves would combine them. If I need to combine something, I know how Implode Music in Finale works. The Set Track-to-Staff list means that you already know what the MIDI file has, and you want it to import a certain way. This is a terrible option, because the only way to know this is if you created the MIDI file yourself, in which case you should make it the way you want it already. Re: [Finale] Harmonic Minor
Hi PAtricia, Under the Finale 2012 menu, in Enharmonic Spelling, if I choose "Use Spelling Tables" that gives me automatically an F# in Gminor when I am using Speedy Entry with a MIDI controller. I don't understand why that wouldn't be part of "Use Default Spelling" but maybe you could open a tech support case to complain about it. It makes no sense to me, either. I generally, however, use Favor Sharps or Favor Flats, and have set keyboard shortcuts to switch quickly between them. For G harm minor, I would use Favour Sharps to make the 7th degree show up as F#. As for the second question, I would always use Tracks Become Staves. [Finale] Harmonic Minor
Finale 2012c, Win 7-64 Hello, I have 2 questions: 1. Does anyone know how to set a minor key signature that will automatically raise the 7th scale step (rather than lowering tonic 1/2 step) when using harmonic minor? For example, in G harmonic minor, every F# appears as a Gb. After years of manually raising the 7th scale tone, I'm wondering if there is a way for Finale to raise it automatically. I've looked at the nonstandard menu (although harmonic minor is hardly nonstandard), and cannot figure it out. In a long document with thick chords, it takes quite a while to correct all the 7ths. 2. When importing a free MIDI file, how do you know which of the first 3 options to select in the dialog box--if you don't know how the author set up the tracks/channels? (The 3 options are Tracks Become Staves, Channels Become Staves, and Set Track-to-Staff List.) Or, do those choices allow you to reset tracks/channels in the MIDI file to your own needs?
