[Fink-users] control-center fails...

Fink xfree86 -threaded packages, XDarwin and Apple X11 installed.

In 'fink update-all', fink fails while trying to install control-center-1.4.0.5-4

I checked and I have already installed:

i control-center-dev-1.4.0.5-4
i control-center-shlibs-1.4.0.5-4

So, I ran 'fink rebuild scrollkeeper' which went okay, and then tried again 'fink install control-center' but it failed again.

Any idea what to do now?

Thanks, Pedro

Re: [Fink-users] control-center fails...

2003-02-08 Thread Alexander Hansen
A new version of scrollkeeper (0.3.12-1) was just released (in unstable)
this past week. The reports that I've gotten said that this seems to fix the
problem. Do a selfupdate-cvs and install it.

In addition, they used Fink packaged software without telling the Fink

Which is annoying and should be told to them.

First you should post which version of OS X you are running, which

source?
Did you try running KDE with another X server? Did it work? Did you
look
in any log files for errors? What did they say?

I had similar problems with kdebase and apple's X11. Compiling the
version of kdebase3 in Fink 0.5a Stable worked but the resulting
binaries failed to connect to the X Server, with the error that the
authentication protocols could not be negotiated ( all protocols were
refused ), this prevented DCOP from starting, and thence any KDE
application which relied on it ( which is all of them as far as I'm
aware ).

I'm afraid that I don't have a copy of the error message any more, I've
subsequently enabled the unstable tree, run fink selfupdate-cvs and am
in the process of building a new version ( of pretty much everything ).

If this works I'll let you know.

Any idea what to do now?

I will try that as soon as everything is recompiled. Although I'm not

Of course having said that I know relatively little about how xauth and

I'm afraid that I don't have a copy of the error message any more,
I've

[Fink-users] Libtool 1.4.2 and 1.4.3 C++ bundle linking problems

2003-02-08 Thread Nicholas Riley
Hi,

I am having trouble with Fink's libtool, trying to compile a module
for Python. With 1.4.2-5, I get this:

/bin/sh ./libtool --mode=link g++ -o libmk4py.la  -g -O2  -I../unix/../include
-I../unix/../src -I. -module -no-undefined -avoid-version \
-rpath /usr/local/lib PyProperty.lo PyRowRef.lo PyStorage.lo PyView.lo
PWOImp.lo column.lo custom.lo derived.lo fileio.lo field.lo format.lo
handler.lopersist.lo remap.lo std.lo store.lo string.lo table.lo univ.lo view.lo
viewx.lo
rm -fr .libs/libmk4py.la .libs/libmk4py.* .libs/libmk4py.*
g++ -bundle  -o .libs/libmk4py.so  PyProperty.lo PyRowRef.lo PyStorage.lo PyView.lo
PWOImp.lo column.lo custom.lo derived.lo fileio.lo field.lo format.lo handler.lo
persist.lo remap.lo std.lo store.lo string.lo table.lo univ.lo view.lo viewx.lo -lc
-install_name /usr/local/lib/libmk4py.so
g++: -install_name only allowed with -dynamiclib

With 1.4.3-1, I get this:

gcc -r -keep_private_externs -nostdlib -o .libs/libmk4py.so-master.o PyProperty.lo
PyRowRef.lo PyStorage.lo PyView.lo PWOImp.lo column.lo custom.lo derived.lofileio.lo
field.lo format.lo handler.lo persist.lo remap.lo std.lo store.lo string.lo table.lo
univ.lo view.lo viewx.lo gcc -bundle -o .libs/libmk4py.so
.libs/libmk4py.so-master.o -lc
ld: Undefined symbols:
[...]
std::terminate()
vtable for __cxxabiv1::__class_type_info
vtable for __cxxabiv1::__si_class_type_info

The problem with 1.4.2 seems obvious; the problem with 1.4.3 is that,
no matter what I try to do (RangerRick suggested CC=c++) libtool
uses gcc for linking. If I try to use -lstdc++, libtool 1.4.3
complains that it can't link it dynamically and refuses to create a
bundle, only a static library, which is useless for what I need.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

First thing in the morning, I will try with:

Re: [Fink-devel] Re: [Fink-users] Virex ships/overwrites fink libraries

2003-02-08 Thread John Buell
Kyle's prior post was right. The RTF files mention curl, but no other
open source projects.

So to be fair, there really should be mention of OpenSSL and dlcompat,
and possibly also fink, since it was pretty obvious where they got some
of these libraries.

Also, and not to be nasty, but since this is now a known issue and a
number of sites have been alerted for not mixing fink with Virex 7.2,
should we move further discussion off list?

to check back with the lawyers on Monday. There are several approaches
to fixing this. It now dependson you Max, drm and RR how this should
be
handled. Fell free to abuse our legal department.

My understanding from one of the forums in which this has been
discussed is
that Virex comes with a ReadMe file which discusses the licenses.
That is
perfectly adequate for most open source licenses, and in any event,
it's
not our business to enforce the licenses of the software packages we
happen
to distribute. (If they seem to be violating the license, the
violation
can be reported to the author of the package.)

In addition, they used Fink packaged software without telling the
Fink
Developers about it or placing a notice in the software!

Which is annoying and should be told to them.

Actually, I have no problem with them using the software without
acknowledging it. What *is* a problem is that they installed things
directly
into /sw, which interferes with the operation of Fink.

We need a web page somewhere on the Fink site which explains why this
is a
problem, and gives some suggestions (like in Ben Hines' posts on the
McAfee
Virex forum) about what a software developer should do if she or he
wants
to re-use Fink stuff (in order to avoid interfering with Fink).

You need to pass --mode=CXX to libtool, i believe. (or something

Version 5 of doxygen now depends on a new package fancyhdr which installs
an appropriate version of fancyhdr.sty ... so yes, you can remove the
workaround copy (and you probably should so that when this is correctly
fixed someday, you'll go back to an up-to-date fancyhdr).

[Fink-users] curl ftp fails due to my firewall

2003-02-08 Thread wgscott
Hi folks:

I've tried with no success to figure out how to poke a hole in my ipfw
firewall that will enable curl ftp to fetch files from an ftp site. I
also tried switching to curl-ssl but that didn't help. Normal ftp and
sftp works, so I am at a loss. What port and protocol do I need to
allow this? When I suspend my ipfw firewall, it works, so I know that
it must be the culprit, but this isn't a pretty way to do fink updates.

Thanks in advance.

[Fink-users] Link Problems with doxygen

2003-02-08 Thread Philip Mötteli
Hi

I have a problem with a package, that is used for almost all the
programs I would like to install: doxygen.
It seems to compile correctly, but when it comes to linkage, it prints
the following error message:

	c++  -o ../bin/doxygen ../objects/main.o  -L../lib -ldoxygen -ldoxycfg
-lqtools -lpng
	ld: Undefined symbols:
	_crc32
	_inflateReset

	make[1]: *** [all] Error 2
	make: *** [all] Error 2
	### execution of make failed, exit code 2
	Failed: compiling doxygen-1.2.18-5 failed

Do I have to install some packages, that are not in the dependancy
list? Or what could I do?

Thanks
