[Fink-users] atlas install hung on lapack

2003-11-02 Thread Byron Amerson
greetings,

attempting to install atlas on an imac running 10.3. However the build of
lapack seems to be
hung. Things seem to proceed nicely until it stops and stays stopped,
evidently indefinately. I let things run all nite and still no progress.
Here is what the output looks like where things are stuck:

ranlib ../lapack_LINUX.a
 (make CC=cc config; export ARCH=`ls -1t Make* | head -1 | cut -f2 -d"."`;
cp ../LAPACK/lapack_LINUX.a lib/$ARCH/liblapack.a; mv Make.$ARCH
Make.$ARCH.orig; sed 's|gcc|cc|g' < Make.$ARCH.orig > Make.$ARCH; make
install arch=$ARCH)
cc -o xconfig config.c
./xconfig

does anybody have any ideas or suggestions?? Do I just let it need to run
longer??

[Fink-users] change defaults for DiskImageMounter?

2003-11-02 Thread wgscott
Hi folks:

Sorry this is slightly off-topic, but I am desperate to find the answer
to this:

I am trying to find out how to change a default setting for
DiskImageMounter, the beast that replaces DiskCopy in 10.3 for the
purpose of mounting disk images.

I want to skip verification of disk images by default, and I can't
figure out how to change that in 10.3 (it was simple in 10.2 with
DiskCopy)

It lives here:

/System/Library/CoreServices/DiskImageMounter.app

There is nothing obvious (to me at least) in the plist files, either in
this directory or in user's Preferences.

Thanks in advance.

If you put garbage in a computer nothing comes out but garbage. But
this garbage, having passed through a very expensive machine, is
somehow enobled and none dare criticize it.

have you installed xmms-bin and xmms-shlib as well as xmms?

Also the .xmms/Plugins folder is for additional plugins such as the

[Fink-users] pango1-xft2 confusion under 10.2-gcc3.3

2003-11-02 Thread Viv Kendon
I'm rebuilding all the outdated packages having just
switched to the 10.2-gcc3.3 tree under 10.2.8 on a TiBook.
I'm doing them a few at a time, and all was going well until
I reach pango1-xft2...

When I first installed pango1-xft2 under the 10.2 tree, I
hacked the info file to depend on system-xfree86-43 |
xfree86 (>= 4.3.0) because I have installed the xfree86-43
binaries, and the pango info files weren't up to date with
this possibility. This worked fine.

Now I'm being told there is a new version:

(i) pango1-xft2 1.2.1-4 I18N text handling system: for XFree86 (>...
(i) pango1-xft2-dev 1.2.1-4 I18N text handling system: for XFree86 (>...
(i) pango1-xft2-shl 1.2.1-4 I18N text handling system: for XFree86 (>...

but it still demands I install xfree86. So I go looking for
the .info file to hack it and I find:

/sw/fink/10.2-gcc3.3/unstable/main/finkinfo/gnome-55> ls pango1-xft2*
   4 pango1-xft2-1.2.1-3.info 4 pango1-xft2.info
  16 pango1-xft2-1.2.1-3.patch16 pango1-xft2.patch

Inside pango1-xft2.info there is only a dependence on "X11"
(among other packages), nothing more specifically xfree86
that might demand I install xfree86.

The xfree86 packages I have installed are

 i system-xfree86- 4.3-3Placeholder: XFree86 4.3.x and Apple X11 1.0
 i system-xfree86- 1.0-1(place-holder package for upgrading broke...

Any suggestions? Force-remove and reinstall perhaps? But
if that doesn't work then I'll have hosed mozilla, which is
what I installed pango for in the first place (and had to
hack the info file for as well).

thanks!

/sw/fink/10.3/unstable/main/finkinfo/utils/launch.info and replace
'#!/bin/csh -e' with '#!/bin/csh -ef'. There's something in your csh
initialization file which is causing the launch build to fail, because
it is a csh script.

Re: [Fink-users] Clean Install for Panther 10.3

2003-11-02 Thread Craig Sutherland
When installing Xcode tools, there is a Customize button on the screen where you select which drive is to get the install. Within Customize is the option to install the X11 SDK.

assume that is simply because getting things to work for 10.3 still
has a way to go.

I am curious - I believe I followed the instructions on the web site.

There were a few parts that confused me.

I saw some references in the list to "installing the Xcode tools and
the X11 SDK" but I thought if I installed the Xcode tools that the
X11 SDK would be installed. Because of notes I read, I thought I
might need a newer version, and I manually installed from the CD
though I am unsure how to check to see if I installed on top of an
existing installation. (Do I need to install anything beyone the
main package on the Xcode CD.)

I download the 0.60 tar. Followed the install instructions more or
less - it seems that they are still the same as for older
versions. There do not seem to be 10.3 specific instructions. I ran
the bootstrap and then ran fink selfupdate-cvs. I tried to install
xv unsuccessfully - I believe I have some problems that I'm hoping
adding unstable to my cvs tree will help. Though I expect to have
some problems still.

Somewhere System=Xfree86 was there and then gone - I've no idea what
happened. xv failed because of a dependency on Xfree86. I thought
the System-Xfree86 would take care of that, but I let xv's install
run figuring that some library might be needed. However, thankfully,
the reason xv finally failed was that fink won't overwrite and
existing X11 installation. I then tried to update/install
System-Xfree86 which displays as installed in a "fink list" but
doesn't quite seem to be recognized as a package when I asked for it
to be installed.

Does anyone have a step-by-step specific to 10.3 so that I can
figure out if I'm making the same old mistakes or a new 10.3
mistake?

Any idea what is happening with Xfree86? Explanations as to what I
might have done, what happened will be appreciated. Anyone know what
to do to fix it?

I have been hearing you, but unfortunately I was away for a week. I
installed Panther sometime last week (while listening to some boring
talks), but had no time yet to do anything with it. After finishing
reading 1000 email messages and compiling 100 packages (most annoying so
far qt3 which only detects after 3 hours of compiling that there is some
undefined symbol which in reality is well there), I will have a look at
scribus. Since there exists now a new version 1.1.2 which supposedly is
very much improved, I will look into this at the same time.

Meanwhile you can edit the scribua.info file and remove the
"SetCXXFLAGS:" line. This should get rid of the error you have been
reporting.

[Fink-users] X11 breaks after installing gimp through Fink

2003-11-02 Thread Curtis Vaughan
After installing Panther from scratch I installed OpenOffice, which was
working fine in X11. Then I installed Fink (0.5.3). After which I did
not check to see whether X11 was still working or not. Then I started
up dselect to install what I really wanted: GIMP!

During the install of many packages, I got the following error:

You have an existing X11 installation in /usr/X11R6 and /etc/X11.
This package refuses to overwrite these. Remove them, then tell Fink to
install xfree86-base again. (The package won't be recompiled.) If you
want
to keep your X11 installation, install system-xfree86 resp.
system-xtools
instead to make this known to Fink's package system.

So, I switched out xfree86 for system-xfree86

After which I got the following error:

It appears you have a partially-installed version of the Apple X11
release. To use Apple's X11 with Fink, you must download both the
main X11 installer, as well as the SDK (there are actually 2 separate
downloads for the Apple X11 release). Please go to
http://www.apple.com/macosx/x11/ and download and install the missing
files, and re-attempt your install of system-xfree86.
Ok, so I installed X11 SDK.

Continuing the installation, everything seemed OK. But then when I
tried to start of OpenOffice I got an error. Also, if I try to start
up X11 using the icon nothing works. Trying to start up X11 by typing
simply "X" at the prompt gives me the following error.

dyld: X version mismatch for library:
/usr/X11R6/lib/libfreetype.6.dylib (compatibility version of user:
6.3.0 greater than library's version: 6.2.0)
Trace/BPT trap

"startx" gives me the following error:

dyld: X version mismatch for library:
/usr/X11R6/lib/libfreetype.6.dylib (compatibility version of user:
6.3.0 greater than library's version: 6.2.0)
giving up.
xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): unable to connect to X
server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.
Any ideas?

find /sw/lib -name "*.la" | xargs grep -l
'^dependency_libs.*freetype\.la' | xargs dpkg -S | perl -p -e

Then update and/or rebuild the packages it lists.

Please e-mail me a copy of the packages it lists and the output of dpkg
-l on your system (this can be quite large, so do it off-list please). I
don't want everyone to have to do this, so I need to fix it :)

Is there a package I need to install manually? It used to work with

Thanks!!
