[Fink-users] [OT] Darwin's Finks under threat
Hi all, I know it's off topic but I thought some of Fink's users and developers might be interested in this story. Some of the world's most iconic birds are facing a new and grave threat to their existence. Many of the so-called Darwin finch species on the Galapagos Islands are being attacked by the larvae of parasitic flies and scientists are deeply concerned for the birds' long-term welfare. The flies were accidentally introduced to the islands, off Ecuador, and it is not known whether the finches will be able to cope with their arrival. . http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/2415261.stm http://ens-news.com/ens/nov2002/2002-11-11-04.asp http://www.birdlife.net/news/pritem_display.cfm?NewRecID=709NewType=P -- dylan p.s. I'm having trouble getting the T-shirt to compile. Any hints? Hmm... maybe I should move my laundry out of the way. --- This sf.net email is sponsored by: To learn the basics of securing your web site with SSL, click here to get a FREE TRIAL of a Thawte Server Certificate: http://www.gothawte.com/rd524.html ___ Fink-users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/fink-users

[Fink-users] Darwin 6.01 and Fink - just wondering
Hello fink-users, develepors, maintainers et al, So my dear little iBook had to be sent off for repairs(nothing to do with Fink), and I'm left daydreaming about what I'll be doing when it returns. One thing I've been wondering about is this: with the open source release of Darwin 6.01(the version under OS 10.2/Jaguar) would it be possible to install the newer Darwin(perhaps on it's own partition) on my OS 10.1.5 iBook and be able to use it in conjunction with the Jaguar-ready Fink packages? I realize that without the latest Dev Tools(which are not available for my current OS) I may not be able to compile the source, but perhaps as things develop and binary packages become available through dselect, maybe I would be able to download the binary packages and move them over to the Darwin 6 partition. Or am I missing something? Am I tied to upgrading Mac OS in order to upgrade Darwin and Fink packages? Is OS X a necessary ingredient? Just wondering... thoughts anyone? Being a bear of rather little brain, and still quite new to this whole UNIX / Darwin / Mac OS X realm, I'm quite capable of thinking up the most idiotic things. Please excuse if this was one of them. The whole question is hypothetical and is solely meant to hasten the dissipation of your precious weekend time : ) p.s. to the developers: Fink has not merely changed the way I use my computer, Fink has changed the way I think. Thanks ! Re: [Fink-users] xfree86 unstable broke my KDE :(
I downloaded the latest(version 4.2.0-11, Mon Aug 12) xfree86-base and -rootless and KDE is working again, thanks!!! The build and install took about 90 minutes on my iBook(G3 700 256Mb RAM) - no problems. Gnome is running fine as well. However, I'm now experiencing another, less drastic problem. It seems that the mosfet-liquid package is no longer working. I get a lot of messages like the following in my kde start up log: QSettings::sync: filename is null/empty Conflict in /sw/lib/kde3/plugins//styles/liquid.so: Plugin cannot be queried successfully! Is this related to having installed the new xfree86? Any suggestions? Thanks again. - dylan --- This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek Welcome to geek heaven. http://thinkgeek.com/sf ___ Fink-users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/fink-users
