Nope--we probably needed an explicit replacement option for gail17 when
it got obsoleted. In the future, instead of removing Fink, there's a
manual option to override the file checking--which is useful in these
cases when you're overriding a package known to be obsolete.

2008-10-27 Thread Adam
There as a huge list of dependencies on gail17, basically everything I
had installed with fink. I decided to do a complete uninstall and
start from scratch to clean out the filth. I think my mistake was
doing an update-all when unstable was enabled. I still haven't gotten
things to work correctly after the fresh install but my problems are
different now.

The error is pretty much what it says: there's a file in common
between the updated gtk+2-dev and gail17. I don't even show gail17
among my listed packages currently on 10.5.5, so nothing ought to
depend on it (please let us know if something still does on your
system).

You ought to be able just to remove that and then update gtk+2-dev,

Hello,

According to Fink FAQ, this issue can be resolved via removing gtk+2-
dev first and trying same command ( fink install gnome-desktop )

Have a nice day

It looks like you changed something in your X11 setup, which happened
to downgrade libXrandr. You'll need to do a "fink rebuild gtk+2"

Yes. Installing the X11 2.3.0 update from macosforge.org is probably
the best bet.

This is not a solution. The problem has to be fixed globally in Fink.
In the case of gtk+2-2.6.10, there is indeed something to fix (and it is
fixed now). Currently, the procedure is to fix each package that shows
this kind of error individually, once the error has been reported (there
is no automatic detection procedure yet).

Hi, even after installing the XQuartz 2.2.2 package,
I was still running into "error: X Development libraries not found".

After two days of work I finally stumbled into:
fink install xmkmf

then adding:
export PATH=/sw/lib/xmkmf/bin/:/sw/bin:$PATH

to ~/.bash_login and restarted Terminal.

On the Leopard machines I looked at, this symlink is there, and it was
installed by the X11User.pkg. It also was not touched by any of the
later upgrades to X11.

I also put a symlink in /usr/X11/lib from libXrandr.2.0.0.dylib to
libXrandr.2.dylib and was able to complile gtk+2-2.6.10-1004 without any
problems. libXrandr.2.1.0.dylib points to libXrandr.2.dylib anyways, so adding
the symlink shouldn't cause any additional problems.

Ah. It looks like something went awry in an X11 update. Here's a transcript
from Fink's IRC channel:

I do have libXrandr; it's just a more recent version than the gtk+2 build is
looking for:

And so you should get the same error--GTK+2 requires libXrandr,
regardless of who is packaging it.

libXrandr is supposed to be installed with the X11User package, so I
think you may have been bitten by a bad X11 update somehow. You might
try downloading the 10.5.2 combo updater and see if you can reapply it,
and then reapply the X11 2.1.4 update.

I have the same setup (MacBook released Feb. 26 2008, OS X 10.5.2, X11 2.1.4,
XCode 3.0) and am getting the exact same error. Looks like
/usr/X11/lib/libXrandr.2.0.0.dylib is not found, but I don't know how to fix
that. FWIW, the same error also occurs when I try to install gnucash using

/usr/X11R6/lib/libXinerama.1.dylib should have been installed by the

This is in the FAQ:

Except that the remedy "You can proceed by repeating your update command
again" did not work in this situation. I met such circular situations a
couple of times, too. Sometimes you have to try, as Armin did, to
install one or the other of the packages on the list of
packages-to-install first to unblock the vicious circle.

(though it appears the fix will occur for fink-0.24.9 rather than 0.25)

Hi
I encountered a similar problem. I wanted to install Gimp2, but it
fails. Here's the problem: Gimp2 requires packages that in turn
require libgettext3-dev, but this is deselected in install process in
favour of gettext-dev. I tried to install/select libgettext3-dev and
then gimp2 manually:

If any of the above dpkg error messages mention conflicting
packages or missing dependencies -- for example, telling you
that the package fink-buildlock-intltool-0.33-102 conflicts with
something else -- fink has probably gotten confused by
trying to build many packages at once. Try building just this
current package intltool (i.e, "fink build intltool"). When
that has completed successfully, you could retry whatever you did
that led to the present error.

Regardless of the cause of the lock failure, don't worry: you have
not wasted compiling time! Packages that had been
completely built before this error occurred will not have to be
recompiled.

What occurs immediately before what you quoted?

History:
1) Clean install of Fink
2) fink selfupdate repeatedly until no change
3) Edit fink.conf to add unstable/main unstable/crypto
4) fink selfupdate repeatedly until no change
5) fink scanpackages
6) fink install bundle-kde
7) The error occurs in pango1-xft2, and the app pango-querymodules
crashes.

8) Tried apt-get install pango1-xft2, same error:
I figured out a way to get it installed, see my post
"The __cg_jpeg_resync_to_restart error in pango1-xft2: Is my
solution OK?"

When I continued the fink install bundle-kde I got the gtk+2
error. I tried:

1) fink scanpackages
2) apt-get install gtk+2-shlibs

This worked, but fink install gtk+2 then fails

How about apt-get install gtk+2 ?

As I try variations, fink toggles between gettext-dev and
libgettext3-dev.

This is normal.

So, should I have done apt-get install gtk+2-shlibs before apt-get
install pango1-xft2?

No. That shouldn't matter.

TIA,
Sam

Well, I know this, but what I'd really want is to be able to say the
name of the program on the command line, not in .xinitrc. This way, I
could compile apps, run them, close them, rewrite..

I won't really need any other windows than the ones from my own app.

Re: [Fink-users] gtk+2 apps broken

2004-07-18 Thread Theodore Dustman
Alexander,
Thanks for you help. No luck yet. I took a look at the crash logs,
tried rebuilding libraries and apps. Below is part of the crash log
for gedit. Does it suggest any ideas?

Thanks,
Ted.

Re: [Fink-users] gtk+2 build problems

2003-08-18 Thread Alexander K. Hansen
Well, my first idea is that you should be rebuilding glib2, since
that's the package that corresponds to GLIB >= 2.1.4 .

Also, you may want to check the file config.log in the build directory
for gtk+2 (/sw/src/gtk+2*/gtk+2*/config.log).

Yes to both.

You can just remove all of /usr/X11R6 ("sudo rm /usr/X11R6") and then
install beta3 again. You don't even have to remove system-xfree86, but I
would suggest reinstalling ("fink reinstall") it, just in case.

Also, Ben Reed is working on a system-xfree86 for XFree86-4.3 -- and
presumably the new Apple X11, when it's out).

Only if you have some packages that couldn't be removed--all that
--force-depends does is ignore dependency complaints.

Can you post the whole of compiler statement that failed (e.g. "cc

I uninstalled all of freetype through fink-commander and tried to

Does it make any difference if I remove freetype by force?

Hello again Alexander and fink users. Thanks for the help so far.

I haven't solved the problem yet though :(

If I move /usr/local out of the way, the configure fails with an error

guess that mustn't be the real source of that error. Anyway here's the

Re: [Fink-users] gtk+2 failed to compile

Ah ha! Thanks - I hadn't been tricked by that one before. I'm trying
it now and will report on the success or otherwise. Thanks heaps for
the help! David.

Thanks for the update, and for all your hard work to make fink happen.

just FYI, there's a new version out, 1.99.16. might want to get this version
first before attempting to fix these problems.

2003-06-20 Thread David R. Morrison
Due to numerous reported problems with pygtk2, we removed it from Fink
yesterday, until somebody fixes it. This might not be immediately
reflected when you do "fink selfupdate-cvs", however, due to the current
CVS problems at SourceForge. (At the moment, anonymous requests to CVS
are served from a backup CVS database which may be 24 hours old.)

I had the same problem though.
IIRC, I removed gtk+ using dpkg --force-depends -r gtk+ (I think)
then I installed gtk+2 with fink install gtk+2
and then I reinstalled gtk+ with fink install gtk+

Hope that helps
