Evaluations
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For me, it would have been useful to have a pamphlet or some sort of printed material on how to prepare for the evaluation, how to show the horse, what is being expected, and other helpful hints. There was a class at Blue Earth in 1997, but we had trailer problems and couldn't make it. I suppose this would be a big job for someone, but not all of us are the avid horse show people and would appreciate a little help. The Fjord Herald tends to have articles that are about who attends events, but not much info on how to subjects. They seem to assume that every reader knows how to do evaluations and shows. I would sure appreciate seeing that sort of thing, anyway.

This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Okay I'll brag Marnix was Overall Ridden Driven Dressage Champion as well as Open Single Driving Champion. Wesley handled Penfryyd's Nykka to Overall Champion Mare and the pair were Reserve Champion Junior as well as Reserve Ridden Dressage Champion. This was Nykka's second competition and Wes did a very good job with her. Heather Kurtz a 15 year old girl in her second year of riding handled rode one of our imported Dutch mares 4year old Orinke to a second in the 3-5yr. old mare class and the pair were Reserve Champion Beginner Rider. This was Heather's first horse show ever and she 's still beaming with pride as well she should be. I was very lucky to have such good help and I was very proud of the girls and my horses. We notice a three-letter prefix on most of the names in the pedigrees. With registered Holsteins you use the prefix of the owner of dam at time of breeding. With our dogs (American Kennel Club) it can be the owner at time of birth. Julie knows what I'm talking about--we bought Viola from her, but she was bred in Missouri. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Barbara Lyn Well I am not sure it is really a Standard or not but this is clipped frop the Rules for Registration for the NFHR: ARTICLE VII - NAMES A. In keeping with the Norwegian ancestry of the Fjord Horse, the Norwegian Fjord Horse Registry requests Norwegian names be used. B. Stallions will not be allowed to have the same name. In case of imported stallions with the same name, the importer will be asked to put a farm prefix or suffix or some other addition to the horse's name. C. Names already listed in any Registry will not be allowed to change whether the Registry is in the U. S., Canada or other foreign countries. And the NFHR Registration numbering system works like this: ARTICLE III - REGISTRATION NUMBERING SYSTEM A. The Norwegian Fjord Horse Registry registration numbering system consists of four groups of letters and/or numbers. 1. First set of letters -- not more than 3 or less than 1 -- is the breeder identification letters. Imported horses are given a letter designating the country they were imported from. 2. Second set of letters -- year of birth by letter starting with 1982 as the 22nd letter (V). 3. Third set of numbers -- registration number of animal starting with 001. Mares and stallions each have their own set of numbers. 4. Fourth set of letters - S, G or M to represent Stallion, Gelding or Mare. Registration Certificates may have SG that indicates that the horse was originally registered as a stallion and was then gelded.

This message is from: Ursula Jensen [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi listsince we are discussing 'Type', I will tell you what the 'grand guru'(tic) Bob von Bon told me this spring. I was throwing the words 'draft type' and 'modern type' and 'sporty type' around while having a conversation with him. He interjected and said to me. There is only one Type and that's a Fjord Type. I asked him to clarify and he pointed out that as far as he was concerned the ideal Fjord that he compares all Fjords to is the picture on the first page of his book.( I'm sure some of you have seen him...it's a pencil drawing of a Fjord...maybe someone can tell us the name of the animal)That is the ideal Type. He then elaborated and told me that if we consider THAT Fjord as the center line of a highway anything that deviates from that ideal (whether heavy or light) towards the outside of the highway, that determines draft or light. I then asked him how wide he would want that highway to be?(Holland has narrower roads than Canada and U.S. ...grin) He answered by telling me that conformationally, there would be faults if the highway were to become too wide. The breed would suffer if extremes in height, draft and lightness were to be bred. That made a lot of sense to me at the time and I agree that we need to be very alert to the problems of extremes. Personally, I saw a 16hh Fjord once and it scared the heck out of me. You can all chew on that bit of philosophy while we head to Libby and see if we can garner a few ribbons for Canada. Brian will be driving a Randem in the Unique Hitch class which should be interesting. It's been going well here at home but thenthat's home.I keep reminding myself that we do this for fun and will hopefully have some quality visiting time with friends and fellow Fjordies. We won't be doing a clinic this year so that will help somewhat. Hope to see some of you there.stop by the Trinity Fjords trailer and say hi. She really shouldn't have the MVF in front of her name but the registrar at that time decided to put it on all of the horses he imported. I'm flattered you know all about Viola! So it shouldn't be the purchaser who gets the prefix, but the owner of dam at time of breeding? Barbara Lyn

So much to do with so little time! As to the Woodstock show I know that Julie Will's stallion Erlend won the Stallion class, the championship then the Overall Champion for the show! Congrats to Erlend. The Niki May Malla team won the Driving Limit Championship and then they also won the Adult English Riding Championship. I am the contact person for subscribing to the Herald. Right at this time we cannot take VISA or MasterCard so we can't do it over the phone or the web or email. You can print out a Membership application form the NFHR web site though and mail it to me with your check. That is probably the fastest way to do it. You can find the Membership form under the Joining NFHR heading on the web site. The address to it is below. Also, who is the person to speak with who represents the NW Fjord Group. I think that is Philip Petty right now. He is probably busy getting to Libby right now but his email address is: [EMAIL PROTECTED] == Norwegian Fjord Horse Registry Mike May, Registrar Webster, NY, USA (Suburb of Rochester) Voice 716-872-4114 FAX 716-787-0497 http://www.nfhr.com mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: Dave Schneiders Fjords
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] this message is from Mike Joyce Cook @ West Church Fjords/Swanton,Ohio Hi Everyone, Just wanted to let everyone know Joyce and I went to visit Dave Schneider and came home with one of his geldings, a Smuckers Pairs harness, A Smuckers Singles Harness and a Stolzfuss Country Gig! Dave still has another Fjord gelding left for sale...incredibly trained for driving in any style you'd like, the gelding also is ridden by children. He has a stud for sale as well. This stud looks very good and if you're interested, the stud shows great tempermant, drives and rides with children. Seems to be very safe and QUIET! Dave came to Swanton yesterday to give Joyce and myself some pointers in driving. This gentleman CAN drive anything, anywhere. He has some vehicles left for sale that are outstanding. Most notably a swedish made, 200 year old wagonette that is just GORGEOUS! He and his father have quite a collection of vehicles there in Strongsville, Oh. They are switching to a different breed for driving and I believe David said they were going to focus on marathoning. Anyway, it was neat to see what they have and the Fjord gelding we purchased,Jerry, is a gentlemen in front of this Country Gig! Boy did we look SMART yesterday going through the park! On a different subject, I totaly agree with Cynthia Madden in her beliefs on the evaluation subject. Kudos to Wayne Hipsley for lending more expert info on the Evaluation Process. Don't you just love this time of year when it cools off, the bugs start disappearing and you can ride or drive these wonderfull horses till your hearts content? Joyce and I do! Best Regards, Mike Joyce Cook West Church Fjords
