Eval. in our area?? and Ride with the stars??
This message is from: "Deb Williams" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Is there any plans going forward for an Evaluation in the Michigan llonois Indiana area Does any one have any knowledge of the Ride with the Stars program in Lexington, Ky at Kentucky Horse Park. I am interested in attending. But I do not know of any one who has so have no reference per facility etc. I know that there are the different levels of attendance and that you can camp over. but how much and how close do you really get to the trainers. I understand that you have to request to get into the separate clinics and that you may sign up but no guarantee that you will get any or most of your choices??? For the cost I would like more for sure info. My interest is to take my rosier and have a fantastic play time. I went there when I was in junior high with 4 other horse crazy girls and one very, understanding mother. It was only a breeding farm then but they told us all about the plans to become this fantastic learning facility. From the information I have gotten the years I have always wanted to return. I actual y got to hold onto the lead line of the famous stallion CITATION on that trip, can you imagine how big a smile was on my face for the next month!!! Interestingly, they are called AMERICAN SADDLERY! check out their website: http://www.american-saddles.de/index.html For English language click on the flag in the upper right corner: http://www.american-saddles.de/dealer/dealer.html They have a page with all the information on construction of flex panel saddles, including Ortho-flex and other companies using the system. This message is from: "Karen Keith" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> A wives' tale perhaps, but I subscribe to this theory, too. I have a Border Collie, and BC's definitely are attracted to other BC's, such as at dog classes. They'll ignore or even snap at other dogs, but seek out those black and white patterned dogs. I heard once that horses tend to go with horses that look like their moms. And being fjords, the only ones that COULD look like their moms are other fjords. :) Another wives tale perhaps, but one I like! Pamela Cheers! Any way, Carla is very very hqappy at Brammies, and Brammie already loves her to pieces. Carla has Bezor the old holsteiner to play with for now and the nicest barn and paddock, I am looking forward to going out driving with Brammie and ponies too. I think fjords like their own kind and really know the difference. Brammie helps me here at Willowind with disabled riders on Willowind Quill, who looks just like Carla ( age 6). I know this will be a good home for Carla and she will join the fjord ambassadors on the mountain trail of Acadia. Glad to meet a dear friend, thank you for sahring her story. For pic and info in German clic: http://www.orthoflex-sattel.de/orthoflex/englische_saettel/baroquedressage/b aroquedressage.html I can't find this model on the American webpage and no price neither in dollars nor in euros! My Fjordgelding is to wide for most Spanish saddles (and he's not even over-weighted!!!). I'm presently riding in a Swedish made western/english/spanish-inspirated design, but there are some things that make me look for a new saddle. A friend of mine has a Ultra-Flex a la Bent Branderup on her cold-blooded trotter, but the widest model is too narrow for Cider, sigh...but on the other hand it is a pretty expensive saddle, so perhaps I should be pleased to have found something I CAN'T spend money on!;o) Anneli ** Anneli Sundkvist Dept. of Archaeology & Ancient History St Eriks Torg 5 753 10 Uppsala +46-18-4712082 - Original Message - From: "Frederick J. This and that
This message is from: "Pasqual, Tish" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Orthoflex: I have an Orthoflex Patriot which is an endurance style and I love it. I had the vet check the fit and he said that it was just about perfect; now that Elph's at his "fighting weight" I think the fit is even better. I really like the neoprene girth too, very comfy for him. However, if I had to do it again I would seriously consider the wintec, the cost is really reasonable and I know lots of people that are very pleased with them. We have been having some fun riding bareback. My husband has been taking riding lessons (me too) and a few nights ago I had him "lead line" me so I could focus on balance by riding bareback - I'm getting pretty good at it! not bad for starting to ride as an adult. Then I convinced Chris to try it, and boom, he was out there riding with no saddle, no bridle, just balance, trotting around the arena with a huge grin on his face. He said it really helped him understand the impact of shifting the body weight and subtle leg pressure. Big fun! I too inquired about the Norwegian "picture" book and was surprised to get it in the mail. No regrets, it is gorgeous, but I too am trying to figure out how to pay (thanks, Dave McW!) After paging through the book I became firmly convinced that the spindle backed sporting gig is the way to go, and I plunked my money down and will take delivery in about a year, but not to worry, a lovely friend called to say that he was just finishing up the paint on a nice antique meadowbrook that I can use for shows so now it's just practice, practice, practice! If you have any doubts that Fjords recognize and get energy from each other, just go to an all-Fjord show, what a hoot! They sure don't come off as a placid breed in those situations . . . Patti: please keep writing more about Germany, it is so fun to read the details. And Linda, I'll see you and Kristin at the Horse Expo. Happy Fjording everyone! Tish and Elph in Minneapolis

This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Yes I think so! My two fjords do not like any other horse besides each other! They do not play with any of the other horses in the pasture. The keep to themselves and play with each other. But if any horse comes near them or bothers them, they gang up and boy is that other horse long gone acroos the field!!! Caitlin
Murphy's Horse Laws
This message is from: "ruth bushnell" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> MURPHY'S HORSE LAWS There's no such thing as a sterile barn cat. No one ever notices how you ride until you fall off. The least useful horse in your barn will eat the most, require shoes every four weeks and need the vet at least once a month. A horse's misbehavior will be in direct proportion to the number of people who are watching. Your favorite tack always gets chewed on, and your new blanket gets torn. Tack you hate will never wear out and blankets you hate cannot be destroyed. Horses you hate cannot be sold and will outlive you. Clipper blades will become dull when your horse is half clipped. If you approach within fifty feet of your barn in clean clothes, you will get dirty. The number of horses you own will increase to the number of stalls in your barn. Your barn will fall down without baling twine. Hoof picks always run away from home. If you fall off, you will land on the site of your most recent injury. ~~~ WHAT DO YOU DO... To induce labor in a mare? Take a nap. To cure equine constipation? Load them in a trailer. To cure equine insomnia? Show them in a halter class. To get a horse to wash their own feet? Clean the water trough and fill it with fresh water. To get a mare to come into heat? Take her to a show. To make sure that a mare has that beautiful, perfectly marked foal you always wanted? Sell her before she foals. To get a show horse to set up perfect and really stretch? Get him out late at night or anytime no one is around to see him. To induce a cold snap in the weather? Clip a horse. To make it rain? Mow a field of hay. To make a small fortune in the horse business? Start with a large one. Ruthie, NW MT

What was interesting to me is that both groups that I went to see made 1st and 2nd places. Dr. Ritter's booth got a 1st place. Very nice, elegant, and he is a WONDERFUL trainer. And a gentle-man with a gentle way with horse and human. And the Fjord booth, it was so well done. I loved the red white and blue and the fjord silhouettes. A lot of time, effort and planning went into it. Can't wait for next year. I'd sign Juniper up for the therapeutic horse, but again, she should be VERY pregnant same time next year. Pamela
