We will be going to the stock show.

Not sure whether we will get tickets to the dancing horses both nights or
not. We are staying at the Marriot City Center hotel. (If you go, be sure
to access the Marriot site via the National Western Stock Show "plan your
trip" link (in the grayish banner on the top of the page) so you can get the
stock show corporate ratewhich is 50% of the normal rack rate.

We will arrive 825 on the 17th of January, leaving midday on the 22nd.

Gail

Sorry for the repost. I forgot the most important item. We would love to
see other Fjord lovers, maybe have dinner, hang out at the agility dog
trials, help clean stalls, whatever. AT the show, our home phone will
probably be forwarded to my cell phone, so we are reachable. Reservation at
the Marriot is under Gail Russell.

Here's a link to an old traditional Shetland recipe for "Reestit Mutton".
Its really good and a must have in any Shetland home at New Year! It is
usually eaten as "tattie soup" with "Bannocks" cut in half with butter and
the meat inside. The mutton is usually cured over a peat fire, but this is
not so common nowadays. It will keep for ages once its dried.

This year’s program will again be held at the indoor heated Minnesota
Equestrian Center. Our clinician will be Karen Maas. Karen has a 30 year
history as an equine professional, working as a judge, instructor, trainer,
clinician, author, and equine body worker. Together with her husband, Al,
they breed and raise Norwegian Fjord Horses at their home in Northern MI.
She trains from the facilities of Bayview Morgans in Cedar, MI as well as
several private stables.

Karen has judged internationally, World Shows, many State Fairs and numerous
NFHR shows in North America, including South Woodstock, VT, Blue Earth, MN,
Turlock, CA, Finger Lakes, NY and Toronto, Ontario.

Her involvement with Fjord Horses began in 1990, when she traveled to Norway
as an NFHR judge candidate. In the intervening years, she has been active
in the formation of Fjordhest International as a translation consultant
proofing translations for early documentation, as a Western Horsemanship
clinician and dressage instructor at the Norskfjordhestsenter, and as a
coach for successful competitors at the Norges Meisteskap, the Norwegian
Three-Phase Event for Fjord Horses. Karen’s goals as an NFHR Evaluator are
to work with the NFHR to build a strong Evaluation program in the U.S. and
working to ensure that the Norwegian Fjord Horse in America remains true to
its Norwegian roots.

horses and how the handlers could make improvements. No ribbons will be
awarded. The emphasis will be on learning to understand what the judge may
be looking for in each class. We hope to offer people who are unable to
bring a horse the opportunity to handle horses with help of an experienced
fjord owner.

Those who bring horses may check in at the Minnesota Equestrian Center after

plan to bring a horse so we can send you a more detailed packet. Classes
offered will depend on how much interest there is.

Merry Christmas from the Myrdal Farms to all fjordies out there. Hope all
will have a blessed season with a new year of hope, health and grace.

I have a question. To relate it to fjords, we do eat lots of the below
mentioned meat in Norway, the land of fjords.

If anyone has a good recipie for lamb, would you send it to me via private
email. I am looking for new ways, and have actually lost my favorite rec.
for Christmas. Nobody at home with email (Norway) seems to have any. Weird.

Sorry to those who do not eat lamb., I am a Viking after all.
haha.

This is a bit melancholy at this time of year, but I saw this horse poem
posted on another list and thought it was quite touching. I will be keeping
it stashed away somewhere with the "Rainbow Bridge". No author was
identified.

Where to Bury a Horse

If you bury him in this spot, the secret of which you must already have,

he will come to you when you call; come to you over the far, dim pastures of
death.

And though you ride other living horses through life,

they shall not shy at him, nor resent his coming,

For he is yours, and he belongs there.

People may scoff at you, who see no lightest blade of grass bent by his
footfall,

who hear no nicker pitched too fine for insensitive ears.

People who may never really love a horse.

Smile at them then, for you shall know something that is hidden from them

and which is well worth knowing . . .

The one place to bury a horse is in the heart of his master.

Sadly Dustenai is for sale. Ended up with a problem with a disk in my back
and it hurts to ride her. So no fault of her own. She is too good of a mare to
just sit in my pasture.
Dustenai is a wonderful been there done that Fjord mare. She is gorgeous and
has the most beautiful head you'll ever find. She is broke to ride as well
as drive. She has been shown at the International Fjord show and has won large
halter classes as well as performance. She was featured on the Nordicfest
poster a couple of years ago. She has been driven in parades and has been
ridden
in the mountains, etc. She has a fast walk and a snappy trot. . She has
excellent manners, loves people and going places. UTD on all vaccine, worming.
Hooves are trimmed Every 8 weeks and teeth have just been done.
