kate, as a perpetual rookie at blue earth, i look forward to meeting you. i
took oz there when i had owned him for only 2 months. i rode badly, i looked
worse.but it was a great experience and introduction to the fjord family.
nobody laughed at me, even though i looked like a homeless lumberjack in the
halter class, which was the FIRST TIME EVER that i had shown a horse. and
nobody
laughed when i rode the walk/trot class with a plaid shirt, riding tights and
a western saddle (though i do groan when i look at the tapes).

they did laugh, however, when i showed up as dorothy in the costume
classOZ, get it? and they laughed when i entered the ring for barrels,
since i
told them i was going to trot the course and they might as well go have
coffee.

and last year we all laughed WITH heike when she drove for the first time
with her stallion, and had a record in conesknocked off just about every
tennis ball there was.

come and have funoz will welcome you.

laurie, and oz the svelter than he was. first year.he was slim, i was
fat, second year..he was fat, i was slim.last year my knee was
recovering
from surgery, so i photographed. this year, hopefully he and i will both be
fit enough to have fun

kate, i have to laugh.same thing happened at the place where i am
boarding oz. there are a lot of very $$$ warmbloods, which i think is a
misnomer,
since every single one of them has at least one blanket on (we have been doing
-20 at night), and have been cooped up for a week. oz's coat just gets thicker
(except where he is rubbing some hair off on his neck...any ideas on why he
would do that?). they fondly call him the woolly mammoth. he stayed in only
because the rest of the gang stayed in. his stall is inside the arena, so it
gets
fairly chilly in there in spite of being covered.

laurie, and oz, who loves to watch the cold warmbloods ride

Hi Everyone,
Hope you and your fjords are well. We're in NJ and this week has been
fjord weather I had to laugh the other night when I was at the barn. I
groomed Duncan, and watched him as he drained one of his water buckets, and
started playing in the second one. I refer to this as snorkeling. Before I
leave I give everyone in the barn a piece of carrot in their buckets. As I was
doing this I noticed everyone had 2 or 3 blankets and/or sheets on--but not
Duncan. He is naked as a jaybird and just loving this weather. I wish I could
say the same!!
Ah well--spring is coming!

serious fly sheets

Hi All,
Tho' it may only be February, I'm thinking ahead about a month or so
when we start to get flies and gnats hatching out on my place and my
mare starts to rub. I'm looking for a *serious* fly sheet, the kind
with a panel that wraps under the belly to protect it, and a tail cover
(or wrap) and neck protection too. Anyone have any experience with this
type of fly sheet on their Fjordie?

(And yes, I do give her garlic).

Bay Area Equestrian Network expands

This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi Everyone-

It's finally raining here, so I actually did some house keeping (LOTS of cat
hair) and am working on a paper for school. I've been meaning to post
information about the expansion of Bay Area Equestrian Network. I spend wy
too
much time on this web site, looking at pictures, reading articles, and posting
on
the message boards. Big fun. They now have several sister sites, including
Oregon Equestrian Network. I looked on their breeder's directory and saw NO
FJORDS. Come on, guys, let's get the word out about our breed! These web sites
are
VERY popular.

Go to www.bayequest.com and scroll down to the list of sister sites in the
lower left hand corner.

This message is from: Sue Clark-Sorger [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I have this figurine and a gray dun also, I ordered them directly from
Northlight in
England came out less expensive, even with the cost of postage, than $100.
I do agree they are some of the nicest figurines I have seen and made a nice
addition to my fjord horse collection.
Now if I could only afford a Beswick figurine I would be in 7th heaven but
the latest one on Ebay is up to $500
a bit to much for me.

The snow is melting and I had enough clear arena to lunge my fjords today,
also got manes cut and Fjordies groomed,
they shed enough hair for me almost fill a much bucket.

2007-02-10 Thread L Hesse

This message is from: L Hesse [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi, folks,

Just wanted to introduce myself...new to the list. My name's Laura Hesse, my
Fjord's name is Sally (aka Liesel). We're from Vancouver Island. My old girl
is 18 - 20 yr old and the light of my life. I call her Dr Sal the Norwegian
Horse Psychologist. Would bet your folks know what I mean :)

Just wanted to say that I ride in a lot of wet weather and like high boots
and poncho. I find a lot of slickers drip down the front of the saddle and
that a poncho will cover both the pommel and cantle. I ride in a Torsion
treeless saddle as my girl is 13.3 and 1200 lbs. She loves the rain and
mountains and the poncho keeps us both drier. It just took some groundwork
to get her used to it.

Nice meeting you folks,
Laura and Sally

noticed but it was exciting seeing them. Here's a link to the Bedwell River

Thank you for this assessment. This is what I suspected. I suppose most of
the slickers come from Australia, or arid cowboy country where it doesn't
rain for hours and hours.

mare for sale in WI

2007-02-10 Thread Dave and Patti Walter
This message is from: Dave and Patti Walter [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I have a SUPER cute mare that came on the farm to sell on consignment. Doll
head, really cute! She is by A.S. Rinska, got a high red in conformation,
Tilly her dam was a red dun. All German bloodlines. Rinska's sire was
Modellen, who was a white dun. Modellen was by Rei Halsnaes whom most know
threw great movement, athletic ability and cute heads. This mare is named
Skyview Slyvia and is sired by Grabbson. Grabbson really threw some nice
willing, solid minded Fjords in the midwest before being sold and moved out
west. I started quite a few of Grabbson's offspring and liked them all.
Grabbson also threw a LOT of gray offspring. SoShe has color in her
background so future broodmare would be an added plus perhaps with color?
Slyvia has very nice conformation, I think she would eval out blue.

Slyvia has a GREAT walk to her and a good trot. She was started by her owner
and was used as a trail horse. She is now in training at FCF learning the
finer skills of riding and doing well. She is PERSONALITY PLUS. A very smart
girl. I can see her as a pony clubber mount, performance or pleasure mount for
child or adult. She has plenty of body to carry an adult around. Owner said
she was super on the trails, very bold and brave. She is just adorable and
will steal any heart. I measured her at 14.1hh Priced at $6200.00 depending
on the length of training here at FCF , the price could go up. Located in East
Central Wisconsin, video available for serious inquiries. She also is a very
sweet mare, comes right up to you in the pasture, loves attention and really
wants to please.

FCF has exciting news. Eby Higdon joined staff here this year. She was working
for me about 2 yrs ago and then went off to Japan to teach english. She has
since returned and wants to stick with horses full time. I'm thrilled, she is
such an asset to the farm. Great instructor, Great rider, Great trainer.
Really is great to have someone around. Eby will be taking horses in on
training, is taking over the lesson program and will just be helping me in
general. She has opening for '07, if anyone is interested in getting some
training done. She has started many young horses, mostly arabs, tbs,
warmbloods, but LOVES the Fjords. She did work with Fjords 2 yrs ago and as
has ready gotten a few Fjords in for training this year and doing great with
them. She just loves their brains and said yesterday. You know, I'm finding
I have a lot less patience for those other breeds and their silly tactics,
since working with the Fjords. They are so sensible, I just love them!
Eby's background is in dressage, pleasure shows and jumping.

I think sometimes we forget what we have in our Fjords. I know I sometimes do,
until I handle another breed, then it all comes back to me. They are AWESOME!

Still pretty cold here in East Central Wisconsin. Although we are along the
lake so a bit warmer but am looking forward to warmer days! SOON, please
SOON! :-)
