Mine say " no we are not taking that wormer" before immediately spitting half
out on the ground and the other half into my hair. I have a pile of wormer
tubes at the back door as we speak (or write) that I have been dreading taking
out to the barn to give.

Heather - thank goodness Henry is okay!! Are you sure someone did not drop
a carrot on the other side of the gate? That's about the only thing I can
think of that might inspire those shenanigans.

Keep an eye on him. Joe pulled a similar stunt getting his front end up and
over a 4+ foot fence, and keeping his back legs on the other. No visible
damage, but he was pretty badly out of alignment and the chiropractor did
wonders.

Hi Laurie,

I wish you the best outcome from surgery - I hope it is a great
success. I'm glad you searched for a new surgeon. I had a similar
experience with a surgeon that did knee surgery on me that was not
supportive when I tried to return to riding - said all I could do for
exercise in my life was swim! Now in CT I have orthopedic doctors
that take my riding very seriously and help me to ride pain free!

I envision you walking knee-to-knee (like hand-in-hand) with your new
"friend" through the woods and to the horse field. I'm glad you
found a like minded (and bodied) man to share time with.

Henry does not Qualify for Grand Prix Jump Off

2009-02-06 Thread Heather Baskey
This message is from: Heather Baskey

Yesterday, my worst nightmare dialed in - when I received a phone call from
the Barn Manager telling me that "Henry is fine ... but ..." and proceeded to
tell me that he decided to jump the gate ... and "missed the target".  We have
NO idea why he decided to take it upon himself to make such a grand exit from
his paddock, but suffice to say - it must have been something that REALLY
unnerved him (or his play with the other horses got too much in the wrong
area) ... who knows, but all I do know is that he wouldn't have THAT much
motivation to attempt and jump 4 + feet.

All I can say is that the calm, rational, nature of the Fjord is such a huge
blessing.

Henry hung himself on the gate, with back legs going through the slots of the
gate and he waited (between 10-15 minutes the barn owners figure) until
someone noticed him.  It then took 4 people (he has a bit of winter fat!) to
remove him from the gate - as they slid and pushed him off.

Henry made it out unscathed (no cuts, bruises, swelling, etc.etc.etc.) - but
did show signs of muscle soreness from this Grand Prix debut ... He was fine
later that night (walked out just fine - absolutely no signs of distress,
lameness, etc.etc.etc.).

The barn owner was flabbergasted and said she has never seen anything like
that in the 30 years that she has been running a stable.  AND - what surprised
her the most was Henry's attitude, of "already then, just get me off this
thing" and he didn't bat an eyelash as 4 people worked him off the gate.  She
continued to say that "if it were one of her thoroughbreds, it would have
ended in disastrous results".

Anyhow - I just wanted to say - that the calm nature of the Fjord (except for
the part of WHY he decided to try out for Grand Prix) shone through
yesterday.

harness for sale

2009-02-06 Thread Linda Lottie
This message is from: Linda Lottie

Hello Everyone;

After serious thought I have accepted that I am unable to pursue learning to
drive a team of fjords. With three wonderful fjords that would be happy to
preform, alas, it is not them, but me who must retreat. The whole process is
just too much for me and driving a team alone is just plain foolish, as a
beginner.

So, I am offering my beautiful Smucker's Team Work Harness for sale. It has
been used once to fit the fjords and once to ground drive. That's it! I have
one collar.borrowed another . collar included. Beautiful synthetic
material - black with silver accents.

Bridles include traditional driving bits.

If interested.please contact me via email, privately.

I can deliver to the Midwest meeting in March or to the MN Horse Expo in
April. It's heavy and a buggar to ship.

Easy Entry Cart For Sale-WI

2009-02-06 Thread Dave and Patti Walter
This message is from: "Dave and Patti Walter"

I have a VERY nice , Brand New, hardly used, Easy Entry Cart for sale. I'm in
East Central WI, 30 miles south of Green Bay. This cart was made by Steve
Waddell, Chamberlain Hills Carriage Works, Buffalo, MN . It's all black in
color, padded seat, adjustable shafts that are in the "french" style I believe
you say. Shafts come off for transporting or storing, they are adjustable in
length as well. It's a very balanced cart, great for training or everyday
pleasure driving. I do have pictures if anyone is interested. I would say it
would fit a 13.2-14.1hh Fjord nicely. $1500.00 OBO I can bring it to the
MWFHC's Winter Meeting in MN in March. Was only used about 6 times. Last I
heard Steve is retired and you can no longer get one of his carts and they are
nice.

knee surgery

2009-02-06 Thread CrystalZak
This message is from: crystal...@aol.com

day before yesterday i finally an arthroscopic procedure on the knee i had
replaced three years ago. as i have mentioned, the knee has worked fine,
however, has been very painful since the surgery. i used a different surgeon
than the
one who did the initial surgery, and didn't seem to think he could do any
more and basically said sorry, i guess you are part of the 2% that it doesn't
work for. thanks for nothing, doc.

it is too soon to tell yet if we solved the problem, but i know that some
shaving was done on the kneecap in there area where i have thought since the
beginning that something was pinching inside. obviously, i have some minor pain
from the surgery, but it's been controllable with advil, and walking has not
been a problem. i brought my cane with me to the surgical center, but i find i
don't need it.

so, here's hoping..perhaps finally a pain free ride.

and on a little side note, i have been seeing someone, and he also has had
the same knee replaced, only his is more recent. we share that, and he also
loves horses and has already met oz.

laurie

Scene: a cold (10 degree) morning in the dry lot. Kate arrives with the
first tube of five day power pack wormer as the ponies are still munching
morning hay.

Della (looks up from munching): "Oh hey, what's that? Wormer? I
love
wormer, it's my favorite, let me have some"

Della trots over to meet me and lays her head out and actually lifts a
lip so I can put in the syringe.

Della (smacking and licking): "Delicious! I love you. I'm going
back to
the hay now, have a nice day"

Kate walks over to Joe and shows him the wormer. He drops his head and
refuses to look at her.

Joe: "I am not being wormed. I do NOT have worms and you cannot make me

take that nasty apple flavored paste."

Kate: "Joe, are you serious? You love this stuff and you do not have a
problem worming. Give me your head"

Joe: "No, No, No - I am bigger than you and you can't make me. I am
not
leaving my hay, but I reject you and your stinking wormer."

Kate: "Oh for heaven's sake you big oaf - do I need to get a halter
and
actually hold you???"

Joe: "Whatever, whatever - I do what I want"

Kate gets the halter and puts it on, and administers the wormer without
a problem.

Joe: "Oh, apple flavored paste? I love this stuff. Now I eat hay and
you
go away."
