FW: Fjords on TV

2012-02-25 Thread Cynthia Madden
This message is from: Cynthia Madden cynthia.mad...@gmail.com

I just caught the tail end of the show a couple of weeks ago while changing
channels and saw someone wheeling a carriage out of the pasture. Never knew
it featured a Fjord. I meant to watch it the next week to see what was
going on and of course, spaced it!

However despicable the show, what an opportunity for exposure to Fjords and
carriage driving. Probably a lot more people watch the Bachelor than the
infrequent opportunities on RFD-TV. It sounds as if the presentation is
great. What an opportunity for sellers of quality Fjords. I can see it now
in the ad - as featured on The Bachelor!

Had to tune in to see Devon; and doncha know just wasted over an hour
watching the whole darn episode! This is why I never turn on the tv in my
house unless it's to watch a specific movie; I get sucked in and end up
glued to the screen. Arrrgh! Devon is gorgeous, I love the Grey Duns!

Yes, the Westerners are right about the Grey Dun Fjord on T.V. Margie Cox,
owner lived in the Pacific Northwest then bringing Devon and daughter
Lindsey many times to the Libby Show. The Quad L's Farm name is from Chip
Lamb's farm near Sandpoint Idaho. At that time Chip had a very nice Fjord
stallion named Rusten. This happened a fair time ago and we knew Margie and
family had moved East. Devon was always endearing, quiet and steady but with
Margie's competitive edge Devon did wake up and go!! We watched the T.V.
event and thoroughly enjoyed seeing Devon!! Brian Jensen

I have to agree wholeheartedly with Cynthia, and not just to maintain
domestic tranquility. If the Registry doesn't jump on this opportunity to
work Lindsey and Devon into national advertising it would be very
unfortunate.

This stupid show was on ABC, one of the broadcast networks! People get
those channels even if they are still stuck with an antenna on the roof.
Even with cable or satellite, one has to have a upgrade package to get
RFD-TV and even a better package to get some of the other channels which
people here have excitedly announced were showing Fjords. Even if they
happen to have one of the horsey outlets, how many folks are going to
abandon their reality pap to chance to see a Fjord there?

This thing is pure gold for the breed! People are going to see an unusual
horse in an activity of which probably they knew nothing. And if they have
even the slightest interest in horses, they are probably going to try to
find out what that funny little horse was and what he was doing pulling
that weird cart around. If you don't think so, check out this thread from
the Chronicle of the Horse forum: http://goo.gl/H9pIV. It starts out with
someone asking What breed was that cute little pony? and progresses
through various speculations to eventually others saying I think my
daughter needs one. and Where would you recommend shopping for one?.

laurie/oz update

2012-02-25 Thread laurie with
This message is from: laurie with livingi...@q.com

i haven't posted lately, mostly because on january 6th i had my second knee
replaced. i was kind of dreading having it done, since the one i had six years
ago still gives me pain, but i must say this has been a pretty remarkable
recovery. anyone who has had this done knows how hard it is. the PT can be
hell, but you have to do it in order to walk normally. i went through a couple
of rough weeks about 4 weeks into it, crying at any little thing, wishing it
was over, blah blah blah.

but, suddenly at 5 weeks, things improved dramatically. i had my balance back,
the pain for the most part was gone, and i could walk without a cane.

after my 6 week followup, i whined my surgeon into clearing me to ride again.
after all, i ride indoors, on oz (who unfortunately has been lame lately) who
has 4 year olds ride him in lessons, has only two speeds - slow and eat, i use
a mounting block, and promised to only walk. at 6 weeks and 5 days post
surgery, i got on him for the first time since the day before surgery. the leg
was strong enough to go over his back, and to walk up and down the block. happy
camper here.

with the first knee i didn't ride again until 4 months.

hi, all. i am a board member of the western dressage association of minnesota,
an official affiliate of the national organization. sue plain has asked us to
do a demonstration and presentation of what western dressage is.

i had planned to use oz, but he has been lame on and off for some time, and i
am not sure he will be sound by then. i am just checking to see if anyone who
is coming here to minnesota for the forum might be bringing a horse and would
be willing to ride a western saddle and help us show what we are about. oz has
done it for ages, since i always ride western but use my dressage lesson
training to make him move better within himself.

i am contacting people i know here, but thought perhaps someone else might be
willing to help us out. since we are a fjord organization, having a fjord to
discuss it with is probably what we want.

many thanks. hope to see a lot of you here in minnesota in a few weeks.

laurie, and oz, who is shedding his long coat, and growing out his clipped
hair. pretty soon they will meet in the middle and he will look normal again.
he has lost some weight and is looking good, but we are still having feet
problems.

WANTED: Fjord Stallion

2012-02-25 Thread mdenmark
This message is from: mdenmark mdenm...@sbcglobal.net

I am trying to help an acquaintance who does not use the internet find a
nice young fjord stallion. Hope someone out there can help Mr. Snider as he
has been looking for quite a while with no luck.

Mr. E. J. Snider (goes by EJ) is a nice gentleman that lives in Chelsea OK
that drives/trains/breed fjords among his other interests of farming and
ranching. He has a number of wagons and carriages for his fjords and likes
to drive them in parades, too. He is a member of the NFHR. Please contact
him directly by his phone number, evenings are best as he works his ranch
most of the day, and please leave a message.

Milli Ann

TX

Mr. Snider told me:

I am looking to buy an approximately 2 year old registered halter broke
fjord stallion of good breeding. I prefer brown dun but will consider all
comers. I have too many daughters by my wonderful stallion that I got from
James and Vicki Hovre. I need some new bloodlines to introduce. This young
stallion would have a good life here running with his ladies and would be
trained for driving/draft/good general manners/etc. Please give me a call
if you have a nice stallion that might fit the bill. And anyone wanting a
gentle well mannered fjord can ask about my current stallion. I do not use
the internet so please call me.

Thank you,

E. j. Snider

Re: Driving without blinders -

This message is from: Carol Makosky cmako...@sirentel.net

I switched to no blinders a few years ago to see if she would shy less
at monster looking objects ( pocket gophers mounds small logs) along
the road and never have put them back on. That way I don't have to
worry about her rubbing damaging the blinders. I don't let her rub if
I can help it, but this happens at times when one is not looking. It is
also easier to pack up the harness not be concerned how the blinders
are placed to not be damaged.

It was a cute Fjord and I love that it was driven without blinkers!
Not that I advocate that (whatever the horse needs) it was just neat to

see.
