She's very drafty in build (okay, I admit she's also fat) and too wide for me. I'm 5'2 and my hips are killing me after about an hour. She is a good trail horse, backs well, and side-passes. She has ridden in groups and around wagons, has been around llamas, goats, sheep, ATVs, tractors, and motorcycles. She's been to the Fjords and Friends Fest in North Carolina three times and enjoyed camping in her stall, trail riding, doing some arena riding (she liked the trail class and the practice Family Fjord test), and playing games like rolling the giant green ball. I have ridden her with English (Sensation treeless) and Western saddles (presently use a Bob Marshall Sports Saddle). I ride her in a bitless bridle (Nurtural). She does not neck rein. She is green-broke to drive. Lots of ground driving (with a side-pull bridle) and has pulled a SaddleChariot in a large arena and was absolutely fine with it, even when I tried the quick disconnect! She knows the Parelli games and really enjoys clicker training. I haven't ridden her much this year, but in the past when she's been ridden occasionally, she's been fine. I'm looking for a 13.2-14 hand gaited horse/pony and would be willing to trade, but only to an awesome home. Contact me privately for more info. We purchased her through Patti Jo Walters last fall for my mom to ride, but unfortunately, bad knees are keeping her from riding any more. The mare's name is Maggie Lane's Skylar and she's 17. Quiet to ride but a tad rusty on her cues. I have a pic of her being shown dressage and she moves off legs super, though she's been used as a lesson horse and is therefore not currently as light in the bridle. We were also told she was in a therapeutic riding program and has been trail riding. She's easy to live with, UTD on shots/worming/farrier, loads and hauls easily, etc. We are not far from Chicago. I am sadly writing as I need to sell one of my mares. She is a lovely 9 year old (which I have owned since she was 6 months old). I was in an accident (non horse related) and am having a great deal of difficulty riding plus my life is getting very busy, so with a heavy heart I need to find a new home for my Ilsa, as she needs a job of some sort. Ilsa is a gorgeous 13.3 hand brown dun mare. NFHR Reg. No*: * GMF-P-2058-M and she has a super personality. She is trained to bow and would enjoy learning some new tricks too. She has been ridden heavily by beginners for the past several years but I have worked her training level dressage. She hacks out on trails, down roads, jumps cross rails, goes through water, has been to parades, shows and you name it. Trailers, clips (body clips and also nose/ears/face), stands for everything, bathes, vacuums (head too!), started target training, comes when you call, nickers when she hears you, is generally hungry and a sweetie pie to hang out with. She loves people and just needs a human to be hers. She'll let you lay in the stall with her and she enjoys being jumped on bareback with just a halter or nothing at all. She is best suited for a novice or advanced rider, but is generally well enough behaved for beginners in a ring. Very well behaved on the ground and anyone can groom/clean or adore her. I think she would be a fantastic driving pony, although I have not done this with her myself. She may make a wonderful mare for a breeding program too, as I really think she has nice confirmation and her sire was a gray as a bonus. Photo's available taken Sept 1, 2011. Driving fjord mare for sale

I have been riding on and off all of my life (with several long breaks along the way) and have owned 3 horses over the years, any appy, a Morgan and a Hanoverian. As I get older (51), I am looking for a horse that is lower to the ground and kind and gentle. I have loved Fjords from a far since the 70s when a friend and I had dreams of breeding them. We lived in the same town in Florida in college and then in Ann Arbor, but when her family moved away our shared dream was lost. I have been leasing a fjord for a 6 weeks and have been planning on buying him - he is 6 and still pretty green. Since I started reading the list, I have seen how many wonderful fjords are out there for sale that are much further along in their training and life experience. This has led me to do a little looking around. I am trying to decide whether to buy a lovely fellow from Anvil Acres sight-unseen and have been emailing back and forth to, and talking to Anita. But in case I can't decide in the next day to buy a horse sight-unseen, I am continuing to see what is out there. My last two horse purchases were not good ones and I am a little gun-shy about the whole process. I bought my Morgan to retrain in dressage and he didn't want to have anything to do with lifting his back, coming on the bit and relaxing. My trainer had no luck with him. Since I was doing dressage, I decided to go the warmblood route. When they say no feet, no horse, believe them. Front leg and hoof conformational issues and injuries made her very uncomfortable. So as lovely as she was, and as much as my trainer and friend loved to ride her, she never seemed happy and even started bucking. She was too much for me. So now I am coming to grips with who I am at 51 and what I really need to continue riding into old age - a Fjord. I have also changed trainers and found one whose philosophy and style fits mine and I am riding better than ever. She is kind and supportive and only pushes me so fast. Two bad falls in the last few years have made me very cautious. Riding a Fjord, I am just learning to trust horses again. I get tense when ever something happens that my last two horses would have reacted to - Finne wonders what I'm upset about. So I'm the one who has to learn to ignore my surroundings not him. Britta, is a 5 yr old red dun mare out of Reterra Evy and by Anvil's Torborjn(Toby). Britta is a compact little mare, standing a little over 13.3hh, who is also very athletic. I started Britta to drive as a 2 yr old and to ride as a 3 yr old. Britta has been ridden mostly western. She is neck reining fairly well. She has been ridden by a 13 yr old girl, who has taken her to some open and 4H shows and does trail riding with her. Britta knows her leads, has a super jog on her and has the talent to do a whole lot more. She is responsive to your legs and to the bridle. She will side pass, turn on the haunches and forehand. She was shown in halter, trail, western pleasure and horsemanship. She was used in the open flag ceremony at one of the 4H shows. She loves to go swimming in the pond with a rider aboard, and VERY much use to kids. She was evaluated and given a red ribbon at age 3. Britta did give birth to a colt this year and you would have sworn she done this a million times, she was so good right from the start with strange people and with the colt. She is a super mom! Baby is VERY nice, but of course he is from my stallion. :-) Britta has not been driving since she was 2, although I am hoping to work with her this fall and winter and get her going again if she is still around. I doubt that it would take much. She was very much a natural at it. I remember getting out of the cart one day and the tire blew, I looked up to see where she was gonna bolt to, she didn't move a muscle. She has been ground driven and started under saddle this summer. Lara has good ground manners and wants to learn. She's very athletic, strong and forward. Her dam - Quad-L's Trixie and her sire - Paradise Blue Jeans.Lara is a brown dun with very nice conformation. She is 14.2 hands and weighs 1150 lbs. She has a full sister who is a grey, Quad-L's Sierra, who was shown at Libby this year (a two year old). I am new to Fjords and have rusty horsemanship skills. I currently own a 16 year old mare and a yearling gelding, as well as Lara. I have decided that I don't need 3 horses, especially two that need training since I am the only one in the family who rides. I believe Lara will realize her full potential being owned by someone who has more experience. She is from good bloodlines and should produce excellent foals, and offers the possibility of producing greys. Her sire is grey and she has grey producing bloodlines on the dam's side (thru Quad-L's Rusten). The trainer who started Lara for me this summer summed up Lara by saying, She's a good solid horse, very smart and willing to learn. And she has no bad habits to undo. Dear Gail, Cinnabar's breeding is the following: her sire is Solar, a wonderful Fjord stallion from Norway, standing currently in Vermont with Lindsay Sweeney. Her dam is my mare, Yvonne, a Dutch Star mare whom I imported 10 years ago from Holland. I am the one who bred her dam (AI) to get her, so I have had her literally from day 1. She began training, long-lining, initially in Texas where I lived. The man who started her was very good and gentle. After that she pulled a quasi-cart made out of PVC poles and then graduated to a training cart that seated 2. He drove her quite a bit and then began riding her. She was actively worked her first 3 years in TX, but since I moved to my place here almost 3 years ago, she has not been ridden. She is handled daily, in and out of barn every evening, grooming, feet, blacksmith, etc and is very gentle and good tempered. I had her in training briefly again this Spring with Vivki Wall here in Sebastopol. I was amazed at how well she did after that long hiatus. I no longer ride due to my bad back. Her registration number with the NFHR is PCC-E-489-M. She has never been bred. Her conformation is good and correct and she is more refined, not the heavy, drafty type of Fjord.
