Shawna,

We have driven both ways. Mark is right in that Hwy 56 is a beautiful
drive, however VERY windy as it follows the river and lake. I would NOT go
that way with a horse trailer hooked up. It gets quite narrow and curvy in
places.

For a scenic drive with just a car, it is beautiful to see ONCE.

For what it's worth, we have never used that road again.

Hi Shawna:

We have traveled that rout many times (to Libby or just as far as Sandpoint
ID) and have found it best to go from Spokane to Coeur d' Alene, ID and then up
Hwy 95 thru Sandpoint to Bonner's Ferry. Then take Hwy 2 on to Libby. It is
all pretty good road and there are not as many stoplights as there are if you
take Hwy 2 all the way up from Spokane. Look forward to seeing you there!!

And if you do miss the turn off and go into Montana on HWY 200, don't fret,
there is a very nice highway just into Montana, HWY 56 I believe, that will
bring you north to HWY 2, just between Troy and Libby, it used to be a very
nice road, and alternate route to Libby, about the same distance either
way.
Looks like a smaller road on the map, but it is actually a very nice wide
  road from what I remember.

  Shawna,

Forgot to mention that just AFTER you go through Sand Point, Idaho...watch
for Hwy 95 taking off to the LEFT...requiring a 90 degree LEFT turn.

If you go straight, you will be on hwy 200 and never get to Libby.

If you need some good maps, let me know privately and I will make them and
  send.

Marsha Jo,

I'm so glad to hear this! Hopefully progress on containment will
continue when temps increase. Sounded like a concern on the DFPA
website.
Thanks for the news.

believe Catherine's place is probably smoky, but safe.

As of this morning, DFPA (www.dfpa.net) reports the
fire 75%
contained. Continued damp weather (we had another 0.1" of rain
overnight) has slowed the spread of the fire and helped the crews get
a line around it. However, it's slow going, in very steep terrain.

I would love to stop and see him!! He has a baby 1/2 brother , born the end
of July, that is a good-looking fella too. Not only is he big-boned and stout,
but seems to be flirting with red as well.
Bonnie Liermann, from WI, was here for a visit last week and thought he looked
red. The thought had crossed my mind several times, but when she said it
aloud, I promptly showed her the still darker hairs in his mane. She might
be right though as Magnus did the same thing that this colt is doing.
Anyway, I'll be in touch, Ruthie, and look forward to seeing you!

>From what I hear (newspapers, neighbor with property near Milo, DFPA's
web site), the fire started on the side of Bland Mountain that faces
Catherine's place, but it mostly moved/hopped toward the SE, up over
the mountain and toward the town of Milo. (Milo is on the South
Umpqua River; Catherine is on Days Creek.) Both of the unoccupied
homes that burned were near Milo. There were evacuation orders for
some of the neighborhoods near Milo, but those have been lifted. I
believe Catherine's place is probably smoky, but safe.

Shawna,

It is 165 Miles from Spokane to Libby via the route that I sent.

When you enter Libby, watch for California Ave (which is also hwy 37 AND
there is a Red light there). Turn LEFT (north). You will cross a big
bridge across the river.

>From the center of the bridge to the RIGHT TURN into the old airfield where
the events are held is almost exactly 1/2 mile.

Hope this helps.
