I feel like such a wimp after hearing about the temps in AK! I'll try to limit
my whining by thinking of you. Some things ARE the same all over I guess...the
birds are lined up for Fjord fur around here too. Braveheart is well thought
of by our local avian population but Bogie is invited to ALL the parties. When
you shed enough hair to knit 2 new ponies, you become extremely popular with
the local nest contractors.
Stay warm. Spring is out there somewhere.

minnesota horse expo WOW (long)

2007-04-30 Thread CrystalZak
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

did we have a great weekend. the expo here sets up a parade of breeds every
day in which each breed gets a one minute display in the coliseum arena, and
later in the day a 5 minute demo ride. this arena is HUGE, if anyone has been
at
the minnesota state fair they will remember it. the lighting is awful, the
ceiling is high, you go uphill through a tunnel to get inside.and walls are
high, white concrete with banners on them..and at one end are the corrals
and chutes for the nightly rodeo. however, that said...our fjords did
great!

we try in our demo to show the variety of styles we do, and also the
suitability for all ages. we had hannah boisen on oyer as our youth rider,
riding
western. anne lottie with lena, and kristin lee on yaeger rode english
pleasure.
hieke lewandowski showed her stallion thor in dressage riding, linda
syversen-kerr was our flag carrier on marcus, riding western. the lustys drove
darla
in a meadowbrook cart, the bob and therine gudknecht pulled a 4 wheel wagon,
and deeann sime and anne longfellow worked loki lee in an easy entry cart. oz
and i rode western. and if i can be humble, we were all great! after we rode,
we
had people come up to us who had watched the entire demo (all the breeds) and
we truly were complimented many times about being the best they saw. we were
dressed to suit the way we rode, the horses were clean and groomed, and to a
fault, everyone of them were very well behaved. when we walked them around the
fairgrounds in the evening, we were always surrounded by admiring kids (and
adults) wanting to pet them, and asking questions.

i met many people from the list who don't post a lot (julie, i think it was?)
who just wanted to meet oz. KATE charboneau, you were fantastic. she came all
the way down from bemidji and stayed two days to help with the mounting
blocks, heading the carts, and generally being a terrific helper. plus i think
we
have convinced her to come to blue earth and participate with fred this summer.
she even used oz as a model to check the fit on the saddle she bought, since
he is about the same size as her fjord Fred. we also several new and potential
fjord owners whom we sent home with a lot of information and encouragement to
come to blue earth, even if it's just to watch.

which brings me to oz, if i may get personal for a minute. i am sure everyone
has heard ad nauseum about my fears and apprehensions, and this event brings
out the nerves in everyone. we had to mount up in the horse barn, ride down
the street through people, strollers, cars, trucks, golf carts, going around
the
back of the coliseum where we passed a semi trailer full of noisy, stinking
cows waiting to unload for the rodeo. there were papers blowing around the
streets, and distractions every where. oz was a rock. in our second one minute
presentation, he and i were the last one in, and so managed to settle in just
as
the full house applauded. he spooked, but i controlled it and we rode out just
fine.

the next day i had a panic attack when they started moving the ramp for the
cattle right as we approached the arena entrance for our 5 minute demo. i
really wanted to bail out, but kristin suggested i just sit tight (or loose)
and
see what happens. so i took a deep breath and went with it. in we went,
surround
by lights, banners, crowds, music, the whole works. within 30 seconds, he was
trotting in his easy western jog, head down and calm, while the announcer
introduced each of us by name, and we waved. we came around the end of the
arena,
and i suddenly heard GO, OZZIE, GO! i looked up and there must have been at
least 10 people from our boarding stable on their feet hollering for us. what
a high. i rode out with tears running down my face, and a smile. what a day!

laurie and OZ the wonderful

Mike,
It would be really great if someone with the talent for editing
could put together a half hour or hour program to send to RFD-TV and
try to get them to run it. They have national shows for other
breeds on quite often. This sounds like there would be enough to
submit several programs.

Well any of you that missed the Dancing With Fjords event last
night in Winona, MN missed the most awesome display of fjords ever
presented for sure in North America maybe in the World.

I can't say enough or find the words to explain how impressive it
really was. We were entertained for 2 hours by non stop beauty
then action comedy all rolled up into the best show ever. Talk
 about Versatility!!! WOW again...

It started out with a color guard procession with people Fjords
parading in with the flags of all of the countries that were
represented. I am sure I will miss someone but there were guests
there from Norway, Denmark, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany,
Scotland, Switzerland and probably some that I have missed. if I did
I am sorry please someone let me know.

Then the Norwegian Wedding procession started out. All in Norwegian
costumes and too beautiful to describe in words. By the way no one
really got married but they were a pretty good looking couple.

How the West was Won was very exciting with roping, riding, sliding
stops, barrel racing etc all going on at the same time.

Following them then we were entertained by Teams of 4 6 horse
hitches - 6 horses pulling a stagecoach, 4 horses pulling very large
logs around the arena and then a 4 abreast pulling a wagon which then
came back in and showed us how to get someplace in a hurry. Thanks
to Rich Hotovy, Mike Sadlon Bob Gudknecht with Bob Sally
Kjorsivg's Stagecoach. And of course all of the behind the scenes
people doing all of the real work.

Then there were other 4 in hands driven by Dave McWethy Jeff
Pedersen. Dave's was put together with 4 white duns

We had a single handed driving demo (Aachen Bach style) by Henrich
Dahl of Denmark also that was very elegant.

Then there was the Circus Circus act - Just plain fun. These guys
really put on a show- tricks, horses rearing, vaulting much more.

Marsha Korose did a Hot Wheels demo of some very fast driving as a
CDE demo in a cow pasture - again you had to be there to see
it. (There was an unfortunate accident in the ring during the setup
of the cows when Curt Pierce went down almost had to be shot right
there in the ring!) (just kidding of course)

Sammie Poirier put on a Roman Riding demo (standing on the backs
of two horses riding the horses with only halters on - no bits at
all in their mouths. Simply amazing and very impressive
indeed. This was while Beth Beymer was riding a Reverse Ridden Unicorn

Then there was the Jump for the Fun of it - in the dark with lights
on the horses lit jumps held by 4 crazy volunteers. Very cool also.

The DQ crew was also very impressive with Lauren Chumley Beth
Beymer putting on a very impressive dressage demo.

Then we were surprised to learn that Fjords can play soccer in the
World cup Fjord Soccer match that pitted the Red team against the
Blue team. The red team did win with a 1 - 0 lead. These horses
really liked playing with that 5 foot high soccer ball too!

The Starfire Farm Quadrille team wound up the evening with an amazing
performance. There is no describing it I am afraid you just had to
be there for it. Just plain Awesome!

I am sure I have left some of the acts out of this but they were all
very entertaining very memorable for sure. I wish all of you could
have been here to see it. There was video taken of it I think it
will be available soon for sale from NFHR.

Thanks to all of you who helped put this together for the NFHR's 25th

Anniversary especially Beth Beymer who put it all together for us.

Also a big round of thanks to all of our international guests for
coming celebrating with us.

And of course without Susan Cargill (who I know doesn't want any
recognition for this) as our Chair person none of this would have
come off. thank you Susan ( Jim) from the bottom of our hearts.

Mike,
It would be really great if someone with the talent for editing could put
together a half hour or hour program to send to RFD-TV and try to get them to
run it. They have national shows for other breeds on quite often. This sounds
like there would be enough to submit several programs.

Can't wait for the Video? (DVD???)

The whole event was video taped so yes there will be DVD's available
for those of you that could not attend. There will probably be at
least 3 of them the way it looks right now. One of them will be the
Dancing with Fjords event I am sure there will be a way to
 purchase the whole set too.

Blue team. The red team did win with a 1 - 0 lead. These horses
really liked playing with that 5 foot high soccer ball too!

Now I know why this message didn't get posted, I sent it from another
email.

Announcing the Arrival of Nysse born 6/20. Her Sire is WHR Elsker our 4 year
old stallion and her Dam is Quad-L's Lara, our friend Sarah Nagel's mare.

I can't believe Elsker threw all fillies !!! We have WHR Val Kyrie and WHR
Feline (Feline will be for sale at weaning 8/17 for $1800) our daughter Mandy
and son- inlaw Eric, bought ValKyrie. Sarah is keeping Nysse at this time.

Little Nysse is very light red with a barely visible dorsal, just like Elsker
was when he was little.(he's a gorgeous reddish brown now) the other two
fillies are very dark with very prominant markings.

All Three are BEAUTIFUL and Sarah is so happy to have a new baby.

We have welcomed to our herd recently, Two Rivers Kare and Two Rivers Pen
Jente (Penny). These two 14 year old mares are beautiful and will make very
nice babies for us. Both of these mares have the Njaals - Merke on their
cheeks.
and lots and lots of zebra striping on their legs. I love those markings!

Well I better get back to all the horse paperwork I am trying to get filled
out

Enjoy your summer Everyone

My big gelding Bjorken has those Njaals-Merke on his cheeks also. His
sire is Anvil's Rikolv, who I note is Kare's sire and Pen Jente's
grandsire. Wonder If they get that from him?

What an adventure, Dagrun! I am impressed, and so, I am sure, is Knute

Janice, thank you in turn for your very nice reference in your post about
wonderful Fjord people. It is a nice group, isn't it? And don't feel
alone, there is frequent talk on the Digest about Fjord addiction. We put
chubby Suki [baby on board] to our cart today, and, low and behold, she
remembered what to do! She would rather have been eating, but was reasonably
cooperative nevertheless. We took some video to prove it, which I will give
to Carl when he arrives on Saturday.

I wonder how the baby liked the trotting? I have no doubt that you will get
the grey filly we requested last year!
Since Erlend produced nothing but boys last year, I figure that this year,
when we don't have one of his coming from our mares, they will all be girls.
Harumph! Anyway, thanks for referring to me as knowledgeable, but I think
you got me confused with Lori ~ I have trouble figuring out the harness
straps, too. Congrats on getting your new cart. Wish you were coming to
Galena.

And on another subject, founder, don't forget the pro-bios given asap.

Hello from Carol Rivoire at Beaver Dam Farm in Nova Scotia -

I just looked at the Fjordhorse International site and saw the Stallion
Placing's from Nordfjordeid.

Boy, am I impressed with the fact of so many Felix sons on the list of
stallion candidates. This is incredible! Congratulations to Pat Wolfe for
having the eye to pick such a quality stallion. And aren't we lucky to
have Felix in North America.

This is what breeding is all about - Producing consistent quality! Wow!!!

I also read on the FHI site that Norway has about 800 foals a year, so
that's about 400 colts. I believe Felix bred about 40 mares before leaving
Norway. Wonder how many were colts? So, out of that 40, 7 sons appear
this year at Nordfjordeid. WOW! I AM IMPRESSED!

$1500??! For a Fjord? Two years ago I would have wrung their arm off
to get this boy. A gelding, trained, a SUPER price, imo. Wonder what
the 'problem' is??

A great bargain for someone in the Pacific NorthWest it appears.

Casey, in rainy Alabama, hoping it'll be just lightning and rain
tonight, no tornadoes.
