Book was fine from my end, so same format (even a clueless git like

oh.. and i'm with you Steven, its Initialisation not Initialization ..
damn Z spellers...

I did however notice that the book was more of a starting point to
what we later now know as Cairngorm (not that it was a bad thing,
quite the opposite). I'd only flag that as if the framework changes,
it might associate I guess "time" to the book in a more obvious
manner... (ie is this text still relevant? hasn't the framework
evolved? ). That and if certain folk on this list who are
anti-framwork because of some religious reason that most can't
understand, it could be a negative...

That all being said, i'm more then happy to download your next book
from various news groups without paying for it... (just kidding, i did
buy your last one).

RE: [flexcoders] Re: Scrolling a TextArea to the bottom?

2006-02-01 Thread Gordon Smith
Try calling traceArea.validateNow() after setting the text.

Here is some background about this...

Flex relies heavily on "invalidation": you set a property but it doesn't
take effect until later. That allows you, for example, to set a bunch of
properties and have a component only redraw once, instead of redrawing
after each property is changed.

There are three invalidation APIs on a UIComponent

invalidateProperties();
invalidateSize();
invalidateDisplayList();

and most property setters call one or more of these. For example, the
setter for the 'text' property of a TextArea calls
invalidateProperties() and invalidateDisplayList().

These APIs push the component onto various queues that the LayoutManager
maintains.

When the Flash Player is about to render the tree of DisplayObjects onto
the screen, we "validate" the components in these queues by calling
three "validation" APIs, which bring the component up-to-date:

validateProperties()  -> commitProperties()
validateSize()-> measure()
validateDisplayList() -> updateDisplayList()

The call to commitProperties() pushes the text into the underlying Flash
TextField.

You can cause these three methods to be called prematurely (i.e., before
the player is about to render) by calling validateNow() on the
component.

Thanks Mac,
You know, I just assumed it would work in Flex. In Flash I used to be
able to call redraw() right after setting the vPosition property and it
would work ok. I don't suppose there is a simple one liner that does the

job in Flex??

[flexcoders] Re: Scrolling a TextArea to the bottom?

2006-02-01 Thread vardpenguin

You're doing it correctly, the problem is that when you set the
vPosition, the 'msg' string has not been fully loaded into the
textArea yet.

You need to do some sort of check to make sure the textArea content
change has been completed, or wait a few moments before you set vPosition.

[flexcoders] Web services that have multiple 'out' parameters

2006-02-01 Thread tobiaspatton
Hello everyone;

(I'm trying hard to limit myself to just two questions a day. I don't
want all of you automatically rolling your eyes when you see my name
in the from: field)

I have a web service that returns two parameters in the reply. I can
confirm that they're both there by looking at the debug trace of the
SOAP reply, or by setting resultFormat="e4x". However, when Flex
parses the reply into ActionScript objects, only the first 'out'
parameter is included in the result.

Is this expected behaviour? I can work around it by grouping the 'out'
parameters in a trivial class on the server, but would prefer not to.

Thanks.
Tobias.

[flexcoders] Passing values

2006-02-01 Thread Geoffrey
I'm trying to pass the dimensions of the main window to a component
for positioning of a popup. I keep getting the following error:

   "Error /Main.mxml:18
The property being referenced does not have the static
attribute."

Here are some code snippets:

-- Main.mxml --

...

-- teamList.mxml --

...

I've looked around and I can't find a solution that helps me. I'm
new to Flex, so I would appreciate a detailed explaination since I'm
obviously not getting it.

Thanks,
  GTB

RE: [flexcoders] inactive popup header color issue-- anybody?

2006-02-01 Thread Gordon Smith

It needs to be

    oldWindow.setStyle("headerColors",
[ 0xFF, 0xFF ]);

#FF isn't an ActionScript number.

I thought I already answered this...

anyway, you need to pass an array, not a string.

This:

oldWindow.setStyle("headerColors",
"#ff,#ff");

needs to be:

oldWindow.setStyle("headerColors", [#ff,#ff]);

Re: [flexcoders] inactive popup header color issue-- anybody?

2006-02-01 Thread JesterXL

I thought I already answered this...

anyway, you need to pass an array, not a
string.

This:

oldWindow.setStyle("headerColors", "#ff,#ff");

needs to be:

oldWindow.setStyle("headerColors", [#ff,#ff]);

I can answer the 2nd; no, FLV only.  Flash

Apologize for a newbie question, but when using Flex 2,
does anyone have a code snippet that demonstrates how to cycle through..say 10
image files?  I would like to have some transition effects also, but in
essence I think I am looking to recreate an ad rotator type of
application.  I looked through the docs and nothing jumped out.  Any
help would be great.

Also, video...does anyone know if video other than .FLV can
be streamed to the flash player.  I have a .NET app that renders .mpeg4
(stored in SQL 2005) via a .NET application and would like to know if it is even
concievable to expose (via webservice) this data and render the video in Flex
app.

Thanks in advance

[flexcoders] Scrolling a TextArea to the bottom?

2006-02-01 Thread Brian Lesser
Possibly really dumb question but shouldn't this scroll a TextArea to
the bottom:

public function writeln(msg:String):void{
   traceArea.text += msg + "\n";
   traceArea.vPosition = traceArea.maxVPosition;
}

Where traceArea is a TextArea.

It doesn't seem to work for me in Flex Beta 1.

Yours truly,
-Brian

From the validator
doc:

The UIComponent class defines the errorString
property that you can use to show a validation error for a component, without
actually using a validator class. When you write a String value to the
UIComponent.errorString property, Flex draws a red border around the component
to indicate the validation error, and the String appears in a ToolTip as the
validation error message when you move the mouse over the component, just as if
a validator detected a validation error.
To clear the
validation error, write an empty String, "", to the UIComponent.errorString
property.

For the TextFields?  No.  Validation +
TextPopups in Flex 1.5 are harcoded together.  Not sure in
2.0.

You can, however, create whatever type of popup you
want via PopUpManager.  If you want to set the focus of the object, either
do object.setFocus(), or just visually, do object.drawFocus(true);

[flexcoders] Re: Compilation Errors running application through Enterprise Services (2.0 Beta

2006-02-01 Thread thunderstumpgesatwork
More info on this. It appears to be something in the MessageBroker
functionality. when starting the Web Application Server (OC4J) I get
the following exception (see below)

I must have something not configured properly... I had the samples
compiling at one point, and started making configuration changes to
support the JMS stuff. I was following directions under the headings
"Incorrect protocol specified in flex web application configuration
for rtmp channel" and "Enabling JMS messaging in application servers
other than JRun" in the Known Issues guide:

http://labs.macromedia.com/wiki/index.php/Flex:Known_Issues

Now with this exception, the samples don't compile either. Can anyone
on the Flex team maybe point me in the right direction?
(what's goin on at MessageBroker.java:139) ?

thanks,
Thunder

[flexcoders] Re: Flex book and Flex 2

2006-02-01 Thread dopenhagen
No matter what, its an excellent book both as primer and light
reference. If you are serious about your Flex skills and still have
some uncovered areas on your personal Flex map you shouldn't hesitate
one more second to buy it.

I remember when I first thought about buying it and I was
reconsidering it since it was based on version 1.0 and not 1.5 (which
was the current at that time) - eventually I did order it and I have
not regretted that for one second... hence, imho its definitely still
worth the dough if you are starting out. On the other hand, if you
already have gone through all the inital steps and have been all over
the framework I actually dont see a point in buying it as it will only
give you in writing what you probably already know by experience...

anyways... thats my late-night 5 cents...

[flexcoders] Re: Help with XMLDecoder

2006-02-01 Thread thunderstumpgesatwork
I should have been specific about the version... I'm used to posting
on the Flex2 Labs Forums... I am using Flex 2.0 (now upgrading to the
Beta)

The reason I really need to use the schema is that there is a defect
(may be fixed in Beta?) with the auto-conversion from XML result to
Object that incorrectly typed '0' and '0.23' etc... any number < 1 as
a string. This was causing stacked charts to choke. I posted this on
the Flex2 Labs Forum and never got any response.

Also, how can this be invoked without the SchemaContext? And can it be
invoked with the e4x XML object?

Thanks,
Thunder

[flexcoders] Re: Returning XML from a Java web service to Flex (2.0)

2006-02-01 Thread thunderstumpgesatwork
Strange, for some reason, my own messages (and replies to them) are
not being sent to me via email... I get the others (many others) but
mine (and your reply) never made it... strange. I guess I know I need
to monitor my messages better.

Anyhow, here's the WSDL. (the message part you're interested in is
'ExecuteQueryOutput')

Thanks in advance...

[flexcoders] Compilation Errors running application through Enterprise Services (2.0 Beta)

2006-02-01 Thread thunderstumpgesatwork
My application compiles fine in the standalone build, but when it
launches the mxml in the web browser, I get a compilation error that
doesn't really say anything at all:

*** BEGIN Error report ***

Compilation Results

Errors, warnings or exceptions were found while compiling
/AppFusion/Project.mxml. Visit the online Flex documentation or API
reference for further information.

1 Error found.

Error /AppFusion/Project.mxml
java.lang.NullPointerException

*** END Error report ***

I'm running Enterprise Services as a J2EE application on OC4J, but I'm
pretty sure that part of it is installed correctly, because I can
compile and run the samples (minus the messaging/chat functionality
because I haven't correctly set up JMS yet).

Any ideas what this is or where I can get more detailed stack trace or
other debug info?

thanks,
Thunder

My today-installed Flex 2.0 beta has 89 days left.
On 2/2/06, Matt Chotin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

Flex Builder Beta 1 is free.  All betas are usually free.

It will wear out at some date well into the future when hopefully another beta will be available or we will have shipped the product.

Flex Builder 2 itself when released will not be free, it will be under $1000.  The Flex SDK will be free.  It will be under $.01.

Re: [flexcoders] Creating that Validator popup message? (Flex 2.0)

2006-02-01 Thread JesterXL

For the TextFields?  No.  Validation +
TextPopups in Flex 1.5 are harcoded together.  Not sure in
2.0.

You can, however, create whatever type of popup you
want via PopUpManager.  If you want to set the focus of the object, either
do object.setFocus(), or just visually, do object.drawFocus(true);

The Validator objects are not appropriate for what I'm doing, but
I do like the way they popup that text "bubble" message when validation
fails.  Is there a way to manually create/show/hide such popup

[flexcoders] Re: Disable expand for tree branch

2006-02-01 Thread Michael Montagna
It's probably a bug if isBranch is ignored in some cases and not others.

Also, there's no need to use a custom renderer in this case. The
IDataDescriptor interface allows custom implementations of the
isBranch and getChildren behavior. This allows for complicated
relationships between parents and children, and custom determination
of whether a node should be a branch or not.

Cheers,

-Michael

Flex Builder Beta 1 is free.  All betas
are usually free.

It will wear out at some date well into
the future when hopefully another beta will be available or we will have
shipped the product.

Flex Builder 2 itself when released will
not be free, it will be under $1000.  The Flex SDK will be free.  It will be
under $.01.

[flexcoders] Cannot resolve to a component name.

2006-02-01 Thread nemahl

Hi,

I'm new to flex development. I was working on Flex 1.5. It was working ok. Then I downloaded Flex 2.0 Alpha and encountered the error in the subject line. The compiler simply seemed not to recognize mx:Script tag. I thought the software was something alpha and I gave up. Now, the same thing is happening in the latest beta version. Can anyone help?

Thanks.

More interesting stuff!

If you click on the columns even if you cannot see
the header, you can still sort!
If you click on the column, keep the mouse down
and drag to your left or right. You can see the column selected with an
  alpha!

[flexcoders] Re: Flex 2.0 beta 1 impressions

2006-02-01 Thread Michael Montagna
Hi Jonas,

The Tree control has a few new attributes and classes to take advantage
of AS3, e4x and to be generally consistent with other components like
List. For the same reasons, we've also removed the ITreeDataProvider
interface and its related classes.

Things to keep in mind when using the new Tree are:

XML data requires an e4x labelField value e.g. labelField="@label"

Tree toggles the root node visiblity via Tree.rootVisible="false" The
default is true which is the opposite of the earlier Tree.

See the DefaultTreeDataDescriptor class for information on how the Tree
will parse data by default. The default may be too aggressive or simply
not match the data you'd like to display.

Here's an example that might help:

tree.xml:

TreeDemoHttpService.mxml:

http://www.macromedia.com/2005/mxml";
 creationComplete="srv.send()">

Unless the TabNavigator control was altered for 2.0, you want to
look for the "change" event, not
"click".

RE: [flexcoders] TabNavigator and Flex2 Beta

2006-02-01 Thread Deepa Subramaniam

Hi Jonathan –

Ok, that’s definitely a bug. It something to do with
the initial layout of the tab, because if you select another tab and come back
to the AFTA tab you’ll see that it doesn’t truncate (though it is a
bit clipped). I’ll log this for you.

I’m not sure of a workaround off the top of my head –
I’ll investigate a bit more and see if I can find one.

Yup still doesn’t
work. Even if I put in tabWidth to like 200 (no more percentages in Flex2
beta), it still messes up.

Hi Jonathan – I can’t
seem to reproduce your case. I can’t size my TabNavigator such that the
label for a tab is not truncated when not selected, and then truncated when selected.
Could you send me some code that reproduces that case?

Thanks,

deepa

Just noticed, when you click on a
tab…the font weight changes and the label doesn’t resize
now…so you’ll get “AFTA” becoming
“AFT…” even when there is plenty of room.

Work-around for this bug?

RE: [flexcoders] TabNavigator and Flex2 Beta

2006-02-01 Thread Stacey Mulcahy

For the cell renderer I had to do
something like ( look at the label bit)

That fixed the truncating bit but not sure
at all about the tabNavigator.

[flexcoders] Re: Tree control in Flex 2 Beta 1

2006-02-01 Thread Michael Montagna

Hi Gunnar,The Tree control no longer provides fine grained access to the nodes and node attributes of the underlying data model, instead you can use your own contract with the data directly.  So if you want to read or change your data, you would do so on that data without going through the Tree control to do so. Here's a wordy example to add a leaf node:public function addTree() {                var collection:ICollectionView = ICollectionView(myTree.dataProvider);                var cursor:IViewCursor = collection.getCursor();         cursor.seek(CursorBookmark.CURRENT, 2);                cursor.insert({label:"added item"});                 cursor.release(); }For the selectedNode you mentioned where you are returned your XML node data, you could use e4x or the XML methods. Something like [EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED] for attributes, or .children() to get the lower level nodes.   It would be the same thing with sealed classes or dynamic objects, but in those cases you'd use different accessors as defined by the data. Here's a selectedNode example:                             labelField="@label" rootVisible="false"              change="treeChanged(event)">                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Hope this helps, -Michael--- In flexcoders@yahoogroups.com, gunnar a reinseth <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:>> Although the changes/fixes to the Tree control are much appreciated (e.g.> not selecting the node when expanding it, and percentage width issues), I'm> left wondering how you're supposed to add/remove child nodes to a node in> the tree... RE: [flexcoders] WebService stopped working in 2.0 Beta 1

2006-02-01 Thread Matt Chotin
Ah, this is an interesting problem. Try changing ws.fetchWSDL() to
ws.loadWSDL(). We changed the name of that function.

However, since the WebService needs to be dynamic because who knows what
methods will be called, I'm not sure that we can raise an accurate error
(and it can't be caught at compile-time).

If you have ideas on how we could make debugging this one easier please
feel free to send them.

Subject: [flexcoders] WebService stopped working in 2.0 Beta 1

Hello;

I finally got my web service experiment off the ground by rewriting
the server as an .asmx file. However, now that I've downloaded and
installed 2.0 Beta 1, it's stopped working. Here's some code I
adapted from the Restaurants sample included in the Alpha
distribution (but missing from the Beta. I wonder why?). The logger
output is at the bottom of this email.

Using tcpflow (http://www.entropy.ch/software/macosx/) to monitor
network activity, it seems that the Flex application is not putting
any data on the wire.

Does anybody have any insight as to what I might be doing wrong?

As should be clear from the code and the above explanation, I'm not
using the Flex Enterprise server. I'm communicating directly with
the WS.

Thanks.

Tobias.

[flexcoders] Re: IE Refresh Issues

2006-02-01 Thread Eric Raymond
Be careful. You've just applied a band-aid that now masks the
underlying issue ... which will likely bite you when other users run
your app.

The issue is likely a bug in IE and Flashplayer.

You need to make sure that the Pragma no-cache header is *not* set by
your server.

IE interprets this header strangley in certain situations. This
header (versus other cache related headers) is largely irrelevant with
the browsers people use today (and it's pragmattic usage then was an
consequence of misinterpreting he http protocol).

The popup blocker automatically blocks the
view-source URL.
Clicking on allow does let you see the source
though!

[flexcoders] WebService stopped working in 2.0 Beta 1

2006-02-01 Thread tobiaspatton
Hello;

I'm communicating directly with
the WS.

Thanks.

Tobias.

Just noticed, when you click on a tab…the font weight
changes and the label doesn’t resize now…so you’ll get
“AFTA” becoming “AFT…” even when there is plenty
of room.

Work-around for this bug?

[flexcoders] Beta 1 Ant Script?

2006-02-01 Thread Simeon Bateman
Hey Gang,

I got enterprise services running on my mac which allows me to at
least test my flex 2 code.

With the alpha I found some info on compiling the mxml via ant which
allowed me to deploy my apps from eclipse. I worked at it a bit last
night and blogged about my progress but I am unable to get an ant
script to compile my source with the beta.

Has anyone put any time into getting this working? Love any thoughts
or ideas you might have.

[flexcoders] Re: IE Refresh Issues

2006-02-01 Thread douglowder
Is this for an older version of IE? I recall running into something
very similar when using... IE 5.5 I think it was, with a jsp
webapp. The browser chose to ignore headers concerning caching in
favor of the browser's settings. There was a service pack that
fixed this for that version, and I believe it was fixed for good in
IE 6.

Hi Matt,

Thanks a lot to reply me .Now I am facing a design issue.I
have to search for Users having different criterias like "Search by
Name","Search By ZIP","Search By Age" etc..I have
design a UI using Navigators/Accrodian.If I click on any Search Tab like
"Search By Name" or "Search By ZIP" , user will get
different Input fields (i.e.,First name,Last name, Age etc for Search By
Name  and zip code,City,Age etc for "Search By ZIP' )The result
data will be shown in a same DataGrid.

Now My question is

1.) Should I use Different RemoteObjects for each Search
process?

2.) Should I use Different Data Model(Though some input
fields like Age,Sex etc. are same for each Search process) for sending
request to server or retrieving Result from server?

3.) As Flex is design on the basis of MVC design
pattern ,then which will play the role of Controller? And How ?

Advance Thanks for descriptive/sample code based
 Advice.

Create a Java object that has a method
that takes two parameters, login and password.

//somewhere in your code

ro.yourMethod(login, password); //when the
method returns your handleResult method will be called with the return value.

[flexcoders] compile all MXML files at once

2006-02-01 Thread rgwilson26
I recently switched servers for FLEX and now must re-compile all my
files within my application. Is there a way to compile all files at
once?

Also, is there a way to pre-compile components upon testing an
application rather than having to compile each individual component as
they are created? At the moment I must create a component...compile
it...then run my main application. It seems that there should be an
easier way.

Thanks

Issues

I’ve created an application that
interfaces with CF remoting and uses sharedobjects to retain certain
information about states in the application, so that the user can return to the
application and see the last “state” they were at in using it so to
speak. This works fine. (yayJ )

Now in mozilla , if I hit the refresh
button, no problem, it resorts to the last known state based on the info stored
in the shared objects.

In IE – the refresh screws it up,
and it does not work based on the shared object but resorts to defaults.
(Booo )

I’ve tried doing the usual
“stop caching” type of things – added headers to the html
file, appended a random variable in the param string – etc. I even
resorted to using  coldfusion page so that I could use the CFheader tags.
No go.

Once again, works totally perfect in
mozilla, but IE on refresh – screws it right up.

I know this is totally vague – but
does anyone have any ideas?

RE: [flexcoders] Flex 2.0 beta 1 impressions

2006-02-01 Thread David Mendels

Hi,

Others can answer your main questions better than I can,
but let me stress that you can still have a SWF compiled without need for a
server that compiles MXML at runtime.  This has not
changed.

Hi, I just installed the new beta
release and I’m having some problems.

I have the feeling that the Tree
component isn’t working the way it worked before? (in the alpha
  version)
When I give it an xml feed as
dataprovider, it doesn’t create childnodes automatically. Any
  ideas?

Also the explorer folder in the
samples folder doesn’t seem to work anymore (since there are no .swf’s
anymore, I suppose they are all made to be run in an enterprise services 2
  environment?
Are we force to use this? I always
liked the idea of an swf compiled without the need for a server who compiles
  the mxml files at runtime.

  Thanks for any
  response,

[flexcoders] Mouse position across an application

2006-02-01 Thread Jonathan Miranda

All this is for Flex 2 Beta….

Alright, I have a datagrid with a custom cell-renderer of a button. When the
user clicks on the button, I want the menu to popup on the button or mouse
cursor. My problem is, the x/y coordinates of the button are in relation to the
HBox container…not the screen. And I can’t get mouseX/mouseY of the
application inside the custom cell renderer.

Ideas?

[flexcoders] Disable expand for tree branch

2006-02-01 Thread Brendan Meutzner
Hi,

Does anyone have a solution short of a rowrenderer to disable the
expand feature on a tree branch?

Setting isBranch to false doesn't work if the node has children, as it
automatically displays as a branch with the folder icon and expand
capabilities. I've tried this in both Flex 1.5 and 2.0 alpha with no
success. Any ideas?

Also, if it comes down to a rowrenderer type solution, I have a
solution for that using Flex 1.5, but would someone be able to give me
some insight into how it would be done in Flex 2.0?

Thanks,

Brendan

[flexcoders] 2 different skins for mx.Button component inside 1 SWC theme set

2006-02-01 Thread Andriy Panas
Hello flexcoders,

Is it possible to combine inside a single SWC theme multiple
set of different skins for a single UI component ( say mx.Button)?

Our intention is to have a single UI component (say mx.Button) with
a different look and feel at the single page.

Are we limited to CSS styles only and programmic skins?

Should we go with CSS solution instead?

e.g:

.mybutton

{

upSkin: Embed(source="button_up.png");

overSkin: Embed(source="button_over.png");

downSkin: Embed(source="button_down.png");

}

[flexcoders] Flex 1.5 HorizontalList scrolling question

2006-02-01 Thread jgraham_us
I have some thumbnails (image and text) in a HorizontalList, I am
scrolling these programmatically to focus in on an item is there a way
to smooth the scrolling effect? Right now the scrolling just jumps to
the next item, I want to maybe apply an inertia or just smooth out the
scrolling.

Any ideas? I haven't seen anything provided by the horizontal list
that would do this.

I am scrolling by calling this. Where list is my HorizontalList
instance.

list.hPosition = list.hPosition+1;

RE: [flexcoders] IE Refresh Issues

I should add that closing the browser and
opening it again, works fine as well. Just IE on the refresh is the problem.

I’ve created an application that

information about states in the application, so that the user can return to the
application and see the last “state” they were at in using it so to
speak. This works fine. (yayJ )

Now in mozilla , if I hit the refresh
button, no problem, it resorts to the last known state based on the info stored
in the shared objects.

In IE – the refresh screws it up, and
it does not work based on the shared object but resorts to defaults.

Re: [flexcoders] Cairngorm Folder Structure

2006-02-01 Thread Beck Novaes
Hi Steve,

Thanks for your thoughts.

I realize it isn't the real problem in my experience with Cairngorm.
In fact, I'm looking for a good way to build RIAs with Flex in a Team.
For instance, I'd like to distribute some features or Use Cases to
different programmers.

Maybe my mistake was to define a folder structure with the Team in
mind. In this case, the high-level of granularity is probably a
collateral effect. There is some bad smell here.

So, I'm looking for a good way to build RIAs with Flex in a Team. I
use Cairngorm and I can see some points where it helps me a lot. But I
wish I have some other thoughts about that, even it is related to the
Cairngorm or not.

Thanks!
Beck Novaes

fyi ... the original link is back up:

It came back up last night after the Flex 2 Beta 1 download became
available.  So I now assume it's being down was related to Matt's
Chotin's second suggestion Saturday:

2) we were a little premature in updating the livedocs site for the beta

and there's a new unknown url that's meant to replace it coming soon.

[flexcoders] Re: Flex 2 ActionScript and MXML Reference

2006-02-01 Thread Brendan Meutzner
Hey Clint,

That link you provided was to the "Developing..." docs... the original
link I'd inquired about was for the API docs...

At any rate, the link you provided does in fact go to the correct Flex
2 "Developing..." docs, and my link from initial message is now
working too. Woo Hoo!! Thanks Macrodobe!

Brendan

[flexcoders] Flex 2 Beta initial impressions

2006-02-01 Thread Jonathan Miranda

Well I moved my entire app over from Alpha to Beta (about
900 lines total…small fry but still)…took about 5 minutes of fixing
some code and deprecated tags. Best upgrade though?

THE LOAD TIME!

My god, I went from a 5-6 second load to 0.0001….I don’t even see
the “loading” bar anymore. Thanks Flex team! J

RE: [flexcoders] IE7 beta

2006-02-01 Thread Nick Weekes

Hehe you know
it.

Although the tabbed
browsing in IE7 doesn’t seem as well done as FF, which seems tidier and
uses the menubar better. Imho.

maybe its my
build (XP SP2, the one MS recommends for this beta) but the browser died a lot
when running the flash 8.5 activeX.  there is a new fancy error handling
component, which tells you what plugin has caused problems, before the IE.exe
process fails.

but usual beta
crashes aside, it does seem to load content quicker than IE6.

RE: [flexcoders] Tree control in Flex 2.0 Beta 1

2006-02-01 Thread Jason Hawryluk
I agree, and to top it off the drag drop functionality is worse, not better
:)

event.currentTarget.getDropParent(event) always returns null so dragging
between nodes = impossible.

For give me if Adobe has changed allot about the tree, but a simple drag
drop example using the different formats supported would be handy.

Unless I am totally way off in the implementation of my dragging and
dropping.

Although the changes/fixes to the Tree control are much appreciated (e.g.
not selecting the node when expanding it, and percentage width issues), I'm
left wondering how you're supposed to add/remove child nodes to a node in
the tree... When I use the new tree.getNodeDisplayedAt() method - or
tree.selectedNode property - what is returned is an XML representation of
the node. Is the TreeNode class deprecated?
