Re: [flexcoders] Re: Skin sources?

2007-09-01 Thread John Barrett
Can I ask are these skins mostly CSS?
I am a newbie in flex, but I am really liking these skins, very cool stuff!

I saw fillcolors.com from asfusion, and am going to try to create a cool skin
of my own.
I just thought that I would ask.

Thanks,
John

Also, you can do a search on Adobe Exchange in the Flex section:

[flexcoders] Flex Builder & Mac OS X

2007-09-01 Thread John Barrett
Hi,

I just downloaded flex builder from adobe labs (moxie). During the download
(all standard, using the build in version, not the plug in) It seems that the
file "mm.cfg" installed in my home directory(Users/My account/mm.cfg),and the
rest installed in /users/my account/Applications/Flex Builder 3.0 moxie.

I was wondering if somebody can tell me where I should put this file. I know it
belongs somewhere in the flex directory. Maybe in the bin directory, but I am
not sure. What is this file anyway?

Also, when I pick New Project, and choose ColdFusion is flex builder suppose to
add any additional files? To me it does not seem to matter if you pick the
server side or not. I did try to install the ColdFusion extensions, but it said
that it is not supported on this platform.

Thanks so much,
John

Re: [flexcoders] coldfusion/flex Application Wizard is not currently available

2007-04-06 Thread John Barrett
Hi Mike,
No this is not supported on the Mac. I wish that it were.
The best thing to do is to get access to a windows machine, and create one
using that system, and then replace that for your Mac (making the changes
needed).
Seems like this would work fine, but I have not yet tried.

Hi all,

I thought I would try to whip up a quick app with the ColdFusion/Flex

Application wizard. But when I try to create a new project with the wizard

it says it is not available for my platform. Does the wizard not work on Mac

OS X?

Thanks,

lazy, and so when this came out, I thought cool! I am going t spend the time

Yeah, I've always seen the web-tier compiler as a hang over from the Flex 1
days - handy if you are getting started, but it's not rated for production
use in Flex 2 so why bother ?

yeah the more I think about it, I think that it would be better to have the
option to add more things to eclipse, and have everything in one spot. As I use
ColdFuson too, and I am very interested in connecting and making my app with a
ColdFusion back-end, and having everything in one space is I think better.
Also, next semster at school I will be taking Java,a nd I will use eceplise for

better option.

I guess if I run into a opps during the install, I can get help on this list`-`

Re: [flexcoders] Flex Builder

2007-03-27 Thread John Barrett
HI Clint,
Thanks for the advice. I read on adobe's site that they were both the same.
I am not too good setting things up, and so I was thinking about getting the
standalone as everything is set up, but then to use ColdFusion & Flex in the
same environment without switching back and forth is a nice idea. Ecplise takes
some getting used to, but all in all I do like it.

With the plug ins you just throw all the files in the plugin folder? I don't
think that you can use software updates in eclipse for this?

Since most people on this lists are not newbies at flex, and I am I thought
that this would be a good question to ask.
I also found this site:
http://www.riapedia.com/2007/03/20/flex_builder_stand_alone_or_eclipse_plugin

Just a few days ago, and so I guess I am not the only one thinking about it.

I am excited as I finally have the money for flex builder, it is just a
question about which one.
John

Hi Mike,
thanks.
Nope, nothing strange, well maybe the "failed to load:
flex.messaging.MessageBrokerServlet"
I made a site, as my friend ask what was going on, and this is everything, the
start, the log, the error, everything.
I would grateful if somebody could figure out what is wrong. I have spend the
last 2 days doing nothing else.
The site is here:
http://johnbarrett.net/cfusion/
On the startup, I don't see anything going on, that page is at:

Thanks for your help,

John,

Are you getting any errors at start up when ColdFusion starts? In my case I
recall there was something not starting up properly with Flex. I just haven't
had time to debug it.

I upload the app you made to my remote host(Linux), and it works fine!

I also tested on Windows,as the remote host uses Linux, and so therefore the
problem is on the Mac. I thought that I was going crazy,as I always hear that
ColdFusion is the easiest back-end for Flex, but not if your on a Mac! I guess
I will have to buy a Macbook and set this all up on the Windows side;however,
this is not the type of setup that I want, but it does not seem to work using

John, a couple things to check, what version of CF are you running?
The version of CF you need to have is 7.02, and Flash Remoting needs to be
turned on in the CF admin.

The example zip I sent you works if you just put the contents in your web root.

Re: [flexcoders] Flex coldfusion simple question

2007-03-27 Thread John Barrett
This came in really late!

I don't think that flex is loading in ColdFusion, as when I go to
http://localhost/flex2gateway/ I get a JRun error.
Can somebody help me figure out what is going wrong?

I made a page with he server log, the flex messages are in 'red"
http://johnbarrett.net/cfusion/log.cfm

Basically this going on:
user failed to load: flex.messaging.MessageBrokerServlet

at
flex.messaging.config.XPathServerConfigurationParser.selectSingleNode(XPathServerConfigurationParser.java:52)

at
flex.messaging.config.ServerConfigurationParser.parseTopLevelConfig(ServerConfigurationParser.java:45)

at
flex.messaging.config.AbstractConfigurationParser.parse(AbstractConfigurationParser.java:66)

at
flex.messaging.config.ConfigurationManager.getMessagingConfiguration(ConfigurationManager.java:77)

at
flex.messaging.MessageBrokerServlet.init(MessageBrokerServlet.java:90)

Does this, "user failed to load: flex.messaging.MessageBrokerServlet" mean that
this is where my issue is?
Thanks so much.
John

[flexcoders] services file

2007-03-24 Thread John Barrett
Hi,
I am trying to get Flex and ColdFusion to talk to each
other, but I can't seem to get it done. Currently, I
am not using Flex Builder, but I am planning to get it
Monday, as I just got my check today, sometimes being
is student you have to wait.

I think that the problem may be in that I get a 500
null error from the
http://localhost/flex2gateway

Here is my services-conffig.xml file, is this correct,
or do I need to add something? I can't seem to get
this working, Is it really this hard?

HI John,

First let me say that the CF extensions are not required to use Flex & CF
together.
Secondly, I am not a Mac user so all I can do is show you code on how to use
Flex & Cf together. I will write a tutorial and send it to you later today.

I was wondering if you could offer a flex newbie some thought on this.

Honestly, to get started you dont need to know OO. You need to
understand how Flex works. Its event based. Your code needs to respond to
events that are triggered, ie button clicks, results being returned from the
server, etc.

I would be happy to help you get going as I use Flex/CF/SQL Server everyday.

[flexcoders] Flex Module for Apache

2007-03-17 Thread John Barrett
Hi,
I tried in the past to instal a flex server using JRun, and FDS, but I could
not figure it out.
Tonight I tried to install the flex module for apache on my mac, but it killed
my apache localhost.
for a detail of what happened:
after installing, restarting apache the httpd server would not load.
I get this error:
"sudo apachectl start"
error message:
[Fri Mar 16 23:23:56 2007]
[warn] Loaded DSO /Applications/JRun4/lib/wsconfig/1/mod_jrun.so uses
plain Apache 1.3 API, this module might crash under EAPI! (please
recompile it with -DEAPI)

 Processing config file: /private/etc/httpd/users/johnbarrett.conf
Syntax error on line 1126 of /etc/httpd/httpd.conf:
Cannot load /Users/johnbarrett/flexSamples/flex/modules/mod_flex.so into
server: (reason unknown)

In the httpd.conf file, the installer put this(right after the Jrun settings):
In httpd.conf:
Include /private/etc/httpd/users/*.conf
LoadModule flex_module "/Users/johnbarrett/flexSamples/flex/modules/mod_flex.so"
AddHandler flex .mxml

I checked , and the file
"/Users/johnbarrett/flexSamples/flex/modules/mod_flex.so" is there.
I would love to get this running, as it would be great to be able to use as a
local server.

Can anybody help me figure this out?
Thanks so much,and aloha

They provide shell scripts ("mxmlc" and "compc") that wrap all that stuff up very nicely.I must dowload The Flex 2 SDK so I delete my folder with my last version of Flex ?  Also, because the scripts run from the bin/ directory, they will find the default flex-config.xml without you having to specify it on the  command line.     Your command would change to:     mxmlc helloas3.as      Much simpler. Before it was java -jar flex/lib/mxmlc.jar -flexlib flex/frameworks -file-specs helloas3.as and now only that mxmlc helloas3.as Bolo

[flexcoders] Installing Flex, Please Help

2006-01-06 Thread John Barrett
Hi,
I just joined this group`-`
I am using Coldfusion MX 7 on the Mac, and I love flash forms, and so I thought
I would try
flex. I downloaded Flex 1.5 & flex builder on wondows(I wish it was on the mac,
but I guess I
will have to play with flex at work no mac version:( ), and I think that the
port should be
8700, but I had no luck.

Once I create an application with flex, how can I view it on my local server?
With coldfusion, I just view at:
http://localhost:8500,and so I thought that:
http://localhost:8700 would work, but when I looked at macromedia it says that
it should be:
http://localhost:8700/flex-->no luck

Is there anything that I did wrong with the download? I picked the full(none
jrun) option, as I
figured I have jrun with coldfusion, and that I did not need 2 versions. Do I
need jrun for flex
to work?

Thank you so much for any help that anybody could provide,
John
