Re: [Flexradio] Speaker choices - Bose Companion 2, and Flex

2008-01-29 Thread Steve Kallal
I have the Bose Campanion 2 speakers. I only have one complaint. There is no
way to turn it off. Has an AC step down wall wart.

Otherwise it has been an excellent speaker set for the 5000A. I used it with
the SDR-1000, but the audio output wasn't as high. The 5000A puts out more
audio than the D-44 or FA-66 does.

I'm considering speaker choices for a new 5000a and note that the Bose
Companion 2 is on the list at http://kb.flex-radio.com/article.aspx?id=10244

Looking at the displays at computer stores, it appears this speaker has a
circuit that attempts to simulate stereo. Bose has a reputation for doing
things differently. I'm interested in knowing what this may do to mono
audio. (I would like to know the technical details.)

The Bose ad says:

I wonder if the other speakers listed have circuits like this. If an
amplified speaker has a circuit to 'simulate stereo' I would at least like
to be able to turn that feature off.

I didn't look - but all the info is almost certainly there if Bose patented it.

Look on one of the speakers for the number and then check it out at:
http://patft.uspto.gov/

Having a patent number REALLY simplifies finding the patent.

Re: [Flexradio] Speaker choices - Bose Companion 2, and Flex

2008-01-29 Thread Tim Ellison
 Tom,

I believe that the TrueSpace type stereo signaling processing is a proprietary
technology of Bose. I have found zero info about it is done, which I suspect is
deliberate on the part of Bose. I use the Companion2 speakers. There is no way
to turn this effect off.

I like the way they sound very much. It is very pleasing to the ear in mono
mode and when listening in binaural mode it gives the perception that the
speakers are even more spatially separated than they really are rather than
simulating a stereo effect on a mono signal. The TrueSpace effect is not over
bearing and it doesn't color the sound from what I can tell. I do use a little
RX EQ to enhance the audio in the 2 KHz range, but that is just a listening
preference.

Also I have not experienced any RFI effecting them adversely either.

Tim has posted a new EEPROM Reader utility that allows you to save your
EEPROM settings in a comma separated values (CSV) file.

http://support.flex-radio.com/Downloads.aspx?id=187

Take advantage of the new utility and keep your 5000 EEPROM values in a
secure backup location such as a CDROM.

Thanks Eric and Tim for this valuable tool.

[Flexradio] Strange things with v1.10.4

2008-01-29 Thread Chris Gerber
Hi

Sorry, I found the fault mention below. A very bad Mic setting creept
into my powersdr.mdb

73 Chris

Hi

I am running PowerSDR SVN up to the latest version without any problems.
Soundcard is Delta M44.
I use VAC 4.08 as link between SDR1000 and Mixw. No problem all working
as it should.
Also use a second installed SB Soundcard to drive the SDR1000 with Mixw
via Mic Input,
all working great.
Same thing with Jeffs latest PowerSdr software. All working ok.
After downloading PowerSDR v1.10.4 I made a new Install, creating a new
db file.
All working ok, SDR - Mixw with VAC ok.
Then hooked together SDR1000 - Mixw with my second installed SB
Soundcard, via MIC input
as mention above.
Now am getting NO RF Output. I can see the output signal appearing on
the pandisplay,
also see the Powermeter showing output on the meter, but cant hear the
monitor audiosignal, when MON on
X2TR is ok, MOX is ON - but no output !!
When I transfer my former Powersdr.mdb into the folder of the new
v1.10.4 install,
all works as its should.
I tried it all way, to bring the new version to work, no luck, it want
output any RF.
Do I miss something?

Had the same problem (high SWR and weak rx) with FW..7 (not with previous FW).
disappeared after installing the ATU.
hope, that helps to fix the problem.

Re: [Flexradio] SDR-5000 and Win 2K

2008-01-29 Thread Tim Ellison
Ross,

Please review the PowerSDR Compatibility Statement
http://www.flex-radio.com/Support.aspx?topic=PowerSDR_Compatibility

PowerSDR is not fully supported on Win2K. But doesn't mean you can't get it to
work.

BTW, The FLEX-5000 Firewire driver is recognized by Windows XP as a soundcard
device. Your best bet is to get a supported operating system. I would
recommend XP over Vista for reasons that are not related to PowerSDR. An
upgrade to XP can be had for less than $100.

Subject: [Flexradio] SDR-5000 and Win 2K

I am attempting to use Win 2K with an SDR-5000. I probably assumed
incorrectly that the combination would work since The SYBA Firewire card
installed fine and PowerSDR 10.1.4 seemed to work fine as well. The driver
3.0.0.70 will not install correctly and shows up as a sound device. I read
in the knowledge base that since Firewire is not natively supported in Win
2K but assumed it would not be an issue since the recommended SYBA card
would work. Any ideas? Thanks for any suggestions (I know...just buy a new
computer, it is an Athlon 3400+ or get XP... or even worse Vista)

[Flexradio] Remote operating

2008-01-29 Thread Kirk
In the process of configuring IP-Sound for remote, I've lost the ability and
am unable to launch IP-Sound. I've uninstalled and reinstalled but still no
joy. Suspect I've got a registry problem but not sure how to fix the launch
issue. Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks,

Re: [Flexradio] VPN

2008-01-29 Thread Harryhahn
Phil: I use Linksys QuickVPN software that was downloaded from their site.
My DSL is dynamic, so I record the current IP address prior to leaving the
house each time. I also subscribe to GoToMyPc, so just in case my IP address
changed while on the road, I use GoToMyPC to see what my current address is on
my network.

Harry, W9BR, sent a message to the reflector mentioning that he used a VPN
to remotely connect to his radio.
My message to him was rejected. Fortunately the reflector doesn't do the
same as AOL.
What VPN do you use? Are there any out there other than cisco's?
I would appreciate any info.
Thanks,

[Flexradio] Strange things with v1.10.4

2008-01-29 Thread Chris Gerber
